Fantastic news! I really like how the PC is shaping up to be THE shmup platform to go to.SapphireDensetsu wrote:Don't forget the N163 arranges.Blackbird wrote:We'll probably do something similar to the CC AST with Eschatos, where we make it a premium item with album art and integration into the game (if possible). That will probably be a bit later on though. I'd also considered creating/compiling some kind of community remix project and hosting that on Steam as community content since the soundtrack is so great.
I second SapphireDensetsu's notion: the N163 arrange would be fantastic to have available in-game.
Re: Degica Shmups Thread
If Eschatos' sells are a blast, then Qute will certanly do something about it. Really, Degica is getting more and more big shots on PC and is wonderful.AntiFritz wrote:I hope this means ginga force in the future and in english.
Re: Degica Shmups Thread
We'd probably have to evacuate the forums if that happened, there'd be riots.
In any case, there's going to be a preview event for Eschatos tomorrow (8/29) at 6PM EST. We'll talk an early look at the Eschatos PC version, talk a bit about the launch details for the game, and then feature some high level Eschatos gameplay and commentary from Ratikal.

More like parades, honestly. People are dying for a PC port of a CAVE game instead on relying on emulation (especially their last games on arcade).Blackbird wrote:We'd probably have to evacuate the forums if that happened, there'd be riots.

All this is so damn good. Sure wouldn't mind Strania on PC, which shouldn't be too hard to port from NesicaXLive.
PC does look like the real shmup platform.
Cave will get money with PC ports... esp. if we're getting the 360 versions brought over. There's so much on the 360 versions that MAME won't ever give you.

Kinect? KIN NOT.
Re: Degica Shmups Thread
I'd buy Strania just to encourage G.rev to port "Under Defeat - New Order" to the PC (... and possibly Border Down as well; though if Dariusburst gains some traction on the PS4, a Border Down PS4 port might not be a bad idea either).gameoverDude wrote:Sure wouldn't mind Strania on PC.

Blackbird did say he'd evacuate the forums due to the riots that would ensue. So I guess he won't be back for a while.

They'd have to add "ARE YOU GREAT? WE ARE GREAT!" to their logo.

Re: Degica Shmups Thread
I'm aware that we're probably well past the point of actually coding gameplay additions, but considering the team at Qute expressed displeasure with the way they handled Time Attack mode, I would be ecstatic if that was somehow addressed in this release. It's a great gameplay mode that just needs some rebalancing, imo.

How would you rebalance the mode?

Re: Degica Shmups Thread
I would say that it definitely suffers from a lack of pressure. Throughout the very beginning of the mode at least, there's time bonus upon time bonus heaped upon the player. I'm playing through right now—I'm at the end of stage 2 and I'm rolling with a time remaining of 260 seconds. 260 seconds! That's really a lot to be bringing with you for the whole game. I feel that things should be redistributed so there's at least a little bit of pressure, with less starting time and less time generally held in reserve, but after every segment you'll get enough time that whew, I can make it through the next wave if I try hard. And instead of dropping one heaping time bonus before/after each boss, maybe a smaller time bonus could be granted during each phase of the boss battle. That way each segment will feel more meaningful.Blackbird wrote:How would you rebalance the mode?
I'd also say that a clearly indicated time bonus for taking out waves correctly would do a lot to maintain the flavor of the game. In Time Attack I don't really feel a lot of need to take out every enemy in a wave, and that's really contrary to the spirit of Eschatos. It would be great if, under these tighter restrictions, you gained a +5 second (or however much time) bonus for every successful wave kill, and used those to add to your time and get a high score. Maybe that's already a thing, I dunno, but it doesn't tell me so I just assume I get a set amount after every wave. I also think losing a life could sting more, and gaining a life could be more rewarding. +5 and -5 seconds for losing and gaining lives feels pretty minor.
I'm actually really not sure why Qute didn't maintain the Easy/Normal/Hard/Endless system for time attack, as it would really lend itself to that. Tighter restrictions and denser patterns on hard mode would really put pressure on players to bring their A-game. Right now it's kind of a introductory mode or a pure score attack mode. Survival is pretty easy, and you're just looking to get to the end with as much time as possible. I think with some tweaking it could be a very fun survival mode and a more meaningful score challenge. And it really baffles me that there's no endless mode—if this had an endless mode that got harder and harder the way the other modes do, I think it'd be a real hit.

Sounds cool! That's definitely a bit too involved to see launch, but it's something to consider for a future update.

Re: Degica Shmups Thread
Definitely, haha. I think what really stymied Qute is that you can only *really* score in time attack mode if you achieve an ALL and not if you time out, which... I don't truly know the solution to that either!
It's a fun mode either way. And it definitely has more scoring challenge than I gave it credit for, considering the difference in the high score topic is 18 minutes versus 27 minutes.

Re: Degica Shmups Thread
If Judgment Silversword comes to PC, I hope there's some sort of anti-autofire measure. Simultaneous wide and linear shooting wasn't possible in the original WonderSwan release, but it's possible in the 360 version with autofire, and pretty much ruined the leaderboards because of it. Linear and wide shooting isn't possible in Eschatos with or without autofire, so maybe that countermeasure can be implemented into JSS?
Re: Degica Shmups Thread
Great job on getting Qute and Cave onto Steam. I won't be buying them again as I already have them on 360, but it's good to see them being made more available to people who couldn't buy them before.
Now if you can somehow get G.REV to release Border Down onto Steam, I'd love you longtime.

Re: Degica Shmups Thread
That shot in JSS has nothing to do with autofire. I can do it while mashing, though it is kind of annoying compared to how it would be with autofire and limited how many runs I could try at a time. None of my scores for JSS used autofire.
I'm pretty sure being able to use both shots at the same time was a thing in the Wonderswan version too. But I'd need to check it on emulator to be sure.
Edit: Just checked on emulator, and the same thing happens. You basically need to mash the wide shot button while holding the normal shot button. So yes, it is in both versions and does not need to be changed. I don't know if it's an intended thing or not, but it is still a part of the game.
