Since the ports are for the most part reprogrammed versions of the arcade games to run natively on 360 hardware, no. However, there is a special exception in that Guwange XBLA actually had an emulator built in to it and the matsuri (Blue Label) roms were included with the game.

Have there ever been any official 'making of' sort of videos for an arcade shmup?

On the Japanese version of Mars Matrix (on the Dreamcast), are the menus in English?

About the upcoming Natsuki Chronicle for the Xbox One, is it a prequel or a sequel to Ginga Force? I already know it's definitely related to Ginga Force because Natsuki was in Ginga Force as well.

I've got a donpachi PCB right now and It doesn't save hi scores after being turned off. What's up with that, just mine or is donpachi that way?

DonPachi and many other arcade games (especially older games) are like that, they don't preserve data after being turned off. That's why the highscore lists often say something along the lines of "Today's high scores," because they were expected to be powered off at the end of the day.

In Chorensha 68k I accidentally triggered/discovered the "instant Game Over while paused" in loop 2. I assume it's for if you want to stop but still enter your score. Does anyone know the exact button combination?

Does anyone know what kind of arcade stick is on this R-Type cab? It's really tiny and has a very short throw. I thought it worked really well and was wondering if it would be possible to install one in my Hori rap. I'm guessing no. But I'd still like to know the type/model of the stick anyway.

I think if you change speed it cancels it, something like that.

Press B+A, which, as BulletMagnet said, changes your speed as well. On a side note, you can also cancel the charge attack in Armed Police Batrider by changing autofire rate (Start+A), but not in Battle Bakraid for some reason.

Was Gradius V the first game in the series to let you recover your options after you die? I don't remember that feature in any other game, but I could be mistaken. Very helpful feature for making deaths not seem like a brick wall.

Ah, thanks for the quick answer. I've never... played any of the Salamander games >_>

Another question: Is there any way to save scores for the NES Zanac games in Zanac X Zanac? The game gives you passwords, but I dunno if Compile added in some sort of save feature for the PSX release. I'd like to have some record of my scores without having to write down a massive password...

That assumes that Salamander/Life Force is part of the series. ;) Only half joking since most do indeed seem to say it's a spin-off.

When emulating Batrider, can you get any better than Shmupmame 4.2's 2 frames of input lag? I see people in high scores using other versions, but from my tests, they all have the same level of input lag, when testing with frame advance at least.

Anyone know how you reach Mars in sonic wings limited ARC version? The little info on the internet is wrong, including the only thread on 2ch where they discussed SWL which was 6 years ago.

Harder mode in SDOJ - Novice or 360?
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

360 shot uses novice patterns
360 laser uses arcade patterns except for hibachi
360 expert uses expert patterns except for hibachi which are the same as laser

360 is pretty much always easier than the 1.0 counterpart with the exception of the st5 boss on expert which is 95% of the clear difficulty, all other bosses have destroyable parts on 360 which makes them much easier
1.0 expert is still harder than 360 expert though

Thank you.

I've been wanting to spend more time with SDOJ recently, but its been a long time and I want to gradually wade back into the waters if you know what I mean. SDOJ is still generally above my pay grade, but I still want to play the hardest version of it I can handle.

I've cleared Novice shot and laser, maybe I should just suck it up and play Novice expert.

Is Service Mode not accessible in some of the later Cave games? Can't get to it in MMP or Mushi Futari...

As usual, glad I took your recommendation! This port rocks, amazingly smooth. :o Makes me wish Konami had gone back for a "Gradius III '92 Kai."

Hi guys, i'm relatively new to Shmups, but I quite like bullet hells. I've been playing touhou, mainly touhou 8 and I also played a bit of Mushihimesama and enjoyed it. I played dodonpachi a tiny bit but couldn't get into it. I've managed to 1cc TH8 on normal, although I failed the last two spells and have 1cc'd crimson clover on novice. I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations for a nub like me. I have read a few guides on the forums about learning shmups although when trying to use save states it seemed to break Mushihimesama. All of the textures would end up swapped with weird, seemingly random textures. If anyone has any solution for this that would be sweet :P

Not sure if something like this is exactly what you're looking for, but it was compiled with the help of this forum, so there ought to be at least a couple of things in there worth trying. You might also want to keep your eye on this thread.

MAME savestates are iffy if not outright broken on CAVE's later games (Mushihimesama onwards). Try using Demul instead of MAME for that.

Check out BulletMagnet's article (the post above this) and this thread that's currently on the first page of threads. If you don't want to read a lot, just download Cho Ren Sha 68k (and run it in Windows 95 compatibility mode or through RunFirst if you have issues with the sound).

Does anyone have a decent guide to setting up a UI for the latest mameplus? If there is a way - I've never been able to get mameplusui to recognize my MAME rom folder.

Demul seems a little more stable than MAME but using either to grind out specific sections will eventually result in a crash, so there isn't really an ideal solution for now. It's probably better to stick to practice mode on the 360 ports. I'm sure some people prefer using that to 'micropractice' with savestates anyway.
