Just cleared Mushihimesama Futari v1.5 Original Mode with Normal Reco. Briefly considered using Abnormal Palm, but I didn't want to skip half the boss patterns lol. Reco is pretty good at scorching stages clean with her spread shot anyway.

Awww shit, just beat my Cho Ren Sha 68k hard mode high score by 4 million points.

Image

This beats Jaimers old score, so this is the best score on this forum (and that I know of).

Still lots of mistakes to improve upon. I want to have a run that's just pure manic rng dodging with no misses and no bombs ever (except for scoring on the stage 1 boss).

Futari BL Maniac clear. Ufff, now I need a game without any slowdown. I've played a few credits of Strikers 1945 II, maybe it's time for my first Psikyo clear.

Also randomly cleared Batrider Normal Course with Maria. Having a fast ship seems to make the game a lot easier for me, struggled way more with Shorty. I should play the game more seriously soon and aim for Advanced Course, seems really fun.

Haha thanks guys! yeah a long time, like over a decade lol (way back then I just dabbled in mame of course). I didn’t start playing it seriously until a few years ago, it was the game that made me get a supergun. It’s also my favorite shmup, so despite the score I got being 1/4 of my personal best (I played low score on purpose btw), it’s definitely rad to have finally cleared it. Now to go back to scoreplay and use someone less broken than Birthday

I 1CC'd Down Load/Download on the PCE earlier today. Put it down to one of the first 1CCs of the year, lol.

On the whole, the game is bright, colorful, charming, and easy - easier than Thunder Force III in my opinion. The homing missiles really shred much of the bosses to pieces and cancel their bullets, so rely on them. The game has a lot going for it, in that it has some great graphics, nice character artwork, cyberpunk setting, and tight controls. The easy difficulty might be a turn-off but the game itself is solid enough to have fun with - I really enjoyed myself, but maybe that's a pleasant side-effect of having a game that only took a solid couple of days to clear!

I haven't played the sequel though I've heard mixed things, leaning on the bad side of things.

The biggest pain: it's one of those console games that doesn't display your high score at the end. I didn't know that and I don't feel like immediately 1CC'ing the game a second time just to pause at that right moment... Maybe later, just to populate the sparse score thread for the game, though as far as I can tell there aren't really any "scoring" opportunities in the game.

God dammit,

I got my first 1cc the other day on Mushihimesama (360 port). This actually would be my first time 1cc'ing ANY cave game and yet the game did not ask for me to save my score or replay. Apparently hitting restart during the game causes any subsequent runs to be void of score/replaying saving much to my demise ahaha

Oh well, I'm sure I can get it again. I didn't even really practice Stage 5 at all and just made it through using bombs

Congrats Cata! Was it Mushi HD or Futari? Original, Maniac, BlackLabel, 1.5..?

EmperorIng, I’m not familiar with that one, I’ll have to look into it, congrats though!

Pulled off a 1cc of Espgaluda. This is my first STG 1cc, so I'm really excited over it! Jakou probably took me a little too long to learn (and I choked a little at the very end) but I'm still fairly happy with this.

AKo, have you considered playing SW3 much? I think it's a lot more fun than SW2, so I'm surprised you went all in on 2. Never played Limited much though, so maybe it's better than SW3 and I just don't know heh.

Just did a survival 1cc of Dangun Feveron...

...and still didn't make it onto the in-game leaderboard lol.

Oh well, I will definitely come back to this one. Now that I can survive the damn thing, maybe I'll try ship speed 3 and devote some of those bombs to disco men catching.

It's not quite as brutal for survival as first impressions might make it out to be. There are a few nasty rng dodging spots here and there, but for a survival clear, you have more then enough bombs to skip them. Everything else has a trick to it, and you have enough bombs to recover if the situations slips out of your control.

SWL is probably the cleanest and most solid of all 4 games. It feels to me like an easier and shorter version of strikers, and it's actually vertical thank god.

For SW3 I didn't play it too much and haven't actually 1cced it yet because the scoring in that game is just so damn annoying to me. You need to pick maomao and suicide many times on the first bonus stage. Even checking our score table, the second place score which actually played the game ends up 2-6, but the top score dies on 1-8 just from pure suiciding with all bombs on the bonus stage glitch. Also while I like the music better than SW2, I really don't like the jungle bass drum in every single song...

They're supposed to be, but in the practical sense they're totally different. Different stage layouts, patterns, scoring, sometimes different bosses entirely. I never really bothered with Special because it's a pain to set up vertical, the emulators sucks, the built in autofire sucks, also there's not really any score to aim for. At least arcadia has 1 good score recorded for Limited. But Special does have a lot more stages and extra ships to choose from.

I see; thanks, I had assumed there was more of a 1:1 connection, especially since SWSp is TATE. I always sort of flip-flop on Special, since it does have a healthy dose of personality, but the patterns are just a little bland.

===

Speaking of Video System: hey wow, I actually cleared something!

Ha, the last boss doesn't give any points. :x At least he has a neat gimmick (destroying the wall behind him to reveal the boss's decomposing corpse - the real battle begins!). All in all, an enjoyable game, though it feels a little dependent on luck (hope those random item canisters contain a shot upgrade or invincibility, or prepare to die, asshole!).

I watched a play of the arcade version, and while the graphics are far better, the new soundtrack for the PCE port really trounces the arcade's tinny plunk-plunk soundtrack.
