Err.. I means It's possible.. But the guy throws his own credibility into doubt by saying he doesn't remember specifics. He also implies it might've been on "easier setting." So what's that then? Easy mode? cheaper extends? extra starting lives? those are all easier settings.

I know you guys already know.. but as a serious post
I 1CCed ikaruga easy after multiple months of dedication (if not close to a half a year or more) and that was after I worked on psyvariar 2. even now that I have 4-5 years of consistent shmup playing under my belt with a list of 1CCs, I severely doubt I can pick up easy mode and 1CC it in 1 shot.. I'd be extremely happy to make it to stage 4. maybe he doesn't know what 1CCing is and he means he beat it without using up all the provided continues/the game over screen?

reminds me of the shmup meetups when fighting game players from the other side of the arcade would come over and get dominated despite being good with the stick.

He seems to think he`s won Virtual-on tourneys in Japan too, except he can`t remember the name of the arcades and when.

To be fair those oratan/force tournaments were near the games launch iirc, so 13-16 years ago. And the level of competition wasn't super high as it is now.

I've known this guy for a while, used to play some VOOT and Armored Core V/Verdict Day with him. I know he worked on one or more of the 3rd gen Armored Core titles at from software. He runs a site about mecha games called mechadamashii and has been in related communities for a very long time.

No idea about the Ikaruga thing. In that post he said he had experienced players showing example runs before him and instructing him as he plays.. I wonder how much easier it would be in that case. Still doubt it's possible on defaults though.

It's not even a TAS, it's them watching a replay of a TAS. The tech guys couldn't get their bloody tech working.
What's worse is they make some factually incorrect statements about the game too. Like saying the stage 4 scrolling turrets ruin your chain if they collide and explode.. I'm pretty sure this is false.
