superhitachi4 wrote:My point is: the game "could've" been done on both the Dreamcast, and 360. That wouldn't have hurt anyone. Not everyone's going to rush out, and buy a 360 to play Senko no Ronde. A lot of us have Dreamcasts. I'd rather not post about this anymore, since I don't want to turn this into a Dreamcast thread. For the record: it's not like Senko no Ronde's a capture the flag, or fortress based FPS. You only need one other person for multiplayer. I think most of us have at least *one* person they know to play the game with. Also, it's not "fanboyism", as you call it, but rather common sense. The game was basically made to run on Dreamcast hardware... Look up the specs of NAOMI sometime.
No fanboy accusations directed at you, although it does seem you have some emotional attachment (do you call it 'the little white box?') it was more about silly microfascist comments.

It would have hurt G. rev. Economical opportunity cost: porting games from Naomi to Deadcast does take resources (time, paying the programmer(s), etc. etc.), despite what fanboys would want you to believe, although granted it is easier than other systems. Then both ports are released: not everyone is going to buy both. Where it would have sold, say (I'm pulling these completely out of my ass, but to make a point) 10k copies on Xbox 360, it now sells 5k on DC, 5k on 360. They've now ported it twice and halved their sales. Some choose to download it for DC (the easiest console to pirate for bar none), lowering sales even further. Of course the argument could be made that it might sell more as a DC exclusive than an Xbox 360 exclusive - in which case I salute G. Rev for choosing to make the game as excellent as possible rather than whoring for money.

I could care less, I guess. I'm just saying it could've very well sold the theoretical 10k 360 copies, in addition to the 5k or so on DC, as like I said earlier, not everyone *has* a 360. I myself, am not planning to buy one as of yet. I have yet to be impressed shooterwise, besides Senko no Ronde of course. Ah well. Also, "Deadcast" hardly seems appreciative of a system that brought us countless classics. Do we call the Saturn "SDeadaturn"? :(

Simply say "NO" to the Micronazis. Saying "I didn't know" won't be a valid excuse this time.
Yeah because Windows is the only operating system in existence and Sony isn't just as big of a threat of monopolizing the console market as Microsoft is....

I judge systems by games, and I can count the number of good Dreamcast games on one hand. Even with the greats (Saturn, PS2) I don't worship them or anything (appreciative?). Anyways, SDeadaturn is so uncreative. Saturd, please.

PS-

Might I remind you Neon, that Border Down on the DC SOLD OUT! If more copies had been made, I'm sure those would have sold too.

Also, Senko no Ronde Revision X was announced for the 360 like... 6 months ago. Under Defeat was announced one month ago and is coming out AT LEAST 2 months before SnRRX. Obviously, making a quick DC port is not the hassle you make it out to be. And I'm sure it would have probably sold the SAME on the DC as it will on the 360.

Personally, I'm glad G.Rev is supporting the 360, I think the system needs all the Japanese support it can get, and since its the next-gen system I've decided to put my hard earned money behind, its nice seeing one of my favorite developers supporting it. Personally, I hope Microsoft picks up SnRRX and releases it over here, so G.Rev can get even MORE recognition and better sales and make even MORE great games on the 360.

I love my DC, but I think SnRRX on the 360 was a good decision. And Under Defeat on the DC was an even better decision!! Thank you G.Rev!!!!

I'm proud to say that's the second parody drawing of me at shmups.com (thank you 8 1/2) but don't be ridiculous, I have no emotional attachment to Sony, or any company, except the one I work for maybe (which isn't related to Sony in any way) but I digress.
Obviously, making a quick DC port is not the hassle you make it out to be. And I'm sure it would have probably sold the SAME on the DC as it will on the 360.
Well, it should take less effort than a Naomi > X360 conversion, yes, although going by release dates isn't the best idea. They may have finished both ports already for all we know and are just waiting for an opportune moment. The point was that it *does* take effort. G Rev have about 6 employees, no?

I would guess it would have sold more copies on DC than 360, thus making G. Rev all the more badass for porting it to 360 (made their game better even while lessening their sales).

That was 3 years ago. The most recent DC exclusive, Trizeal, sold two thousand copies. I have Under Defeat preordered as well but I think it sadly won't come close to Border Down's 10k either. Especially with rajiruji and Ibara coming out around the same time.

Which reminds me: You've been fairly quiet about Ibara, jp. A Raizing game coming out on ps2...doesn't that bother you?

Ibara is a Cave game, with Raizing people working on it. And no it doesn't bother me, I really don't care. That would be like someone who hated the DC (Z0MG T3H J00!) but loved Taito and being like "Man, fuck, Border Down is coming out on the DC, what in the hell man!?" Do I consider G.Rev and Taito the same? No. Do I consider Cave and Raizing the same? HELLS NO!

As for Trizeal, well, that game did get kinda hammered in impressions and what not. And it wasn't very pretty. I'm sure the 10,000 people that bought Border Down still remember that G.Rev kicks ass.

And stupid DC comments aside, the funny thing is I actually agree with you. G.Rev IS bad ass for putting SnRRX on the 360.

Edit: Or it'd be like someone who loved Team Andromeda but hated Microsoft being like "OMG! Fuck those guys! Mistwalker and Artoon work for MS! Man, Team Andromeda sold out!"

You can say what you want about G.Rev, but I don't think anyone could ever say they aren't good to their fans. Between the 3 DC ports, what looks to be an excellent, upgraded, and online playable SnR port, answering letters from fans every single week... I don't think any company out there tries harder to give the fans what they want. Let's be reasonable here.

The SnR looks quite slick, and here's hoping it's import friendly, or gets a US release. Under Defeat looks like the bee's knees, and will be a day one purchase. Border Down is one of the best shooters in recent memory. Here's to G. Rev.

This shit belongs in off-topic, IMHO.

SnR's 'honorary' shmup status here should be revoked.

Agreed DC fans should be honored G.Rev is releasing Under Defeat at all on DC (with extras) and Xbox live presents one of the best venues for SnR. These guys hold themselves to a high standard and are damn talented despite no attention from mainstream game media. *-neo

Agreed! As far as I'm concerned G.Rev is virtually the last developer that gives a shit about what its fans want.

I wouldn't go that far, but they're certainly the only ones that bend over backwards for their fans like that.

What Frog said, their communication with fans is great. In fact, I think someone should organize a letter/e-mail drive encouraging them to make the game region free.

I don't think that's even neccessary. I think they will hear those that do contact them and do what they can do.

I don,t think a full American realese is out of the question unlikly but not of the question. Metal Slug3 sold well on Xbox and sony saw this and allowed a PS2 realese of 4 and 5 they origanally rejected 3. Although mainstream publishers may have lost faith and shmups after the average or subpar sales of all the quility PS2 shooters, it still shows they consider the hardcore games as profitable or at least they did.Who knows Microsoft might see an audience for this over here.

The problem is it's really just so different from anything else out there, no one will see it as even a "proven niche". But yeah, nothing's impossible these days. Here's hoping. Who knows it might even find an audience if it gets some good press.

Agreed, I have to be pessimistic about a US release doing well. Dreamcast has an extremely negative image amongst most mainstreamers (and the press will surely harp on the game's origin), coupled with the fact that the graphicz00rz certainly won't be up to par (unless GREV does some upgrading).

We live in a country where Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution sold a mere 15 thousand copies. I wouldn't expect much, folks.

Uh... you know the graphics are being completely remade for the 360 release, right? Slapping a DC game on PS2 is one thing, but they're not going to put it on 360 without the neccessary visual upgrade. There's screens in this thread. Check 'em out.

Well, like I said, unless they get redone. Which apparently they are.

Not only do you not like Donpachi, you say things with a bitchy 'Uh...' as though I should have known this shit from birth. Get a grip man ^_~

Yeah, Its certainly strange but true. Mainstreamers also seem to think that you can only count the systems good games on one hand.

Some people are just ignorant.

I wouldn't call it ignorance, I've tried everything that could even barely be worth recommending on the DC. We can flame each other (horror of horrors at being called a 'mainstreamer...' how dare you question my hardcore-ity ^_^) but that's not really going to change my mind.

Though I guess I was shit-stirring by saying that publicly. I apologize to everyone who came to this thread looking for intelligent conversation and instead has found a bunch of crappy crap like a console war.

Hell, saying it has 5 or 6 worthwhile games is a compliment. Few systems can even boast that many. I'd rank it 3rd behind SS and PS2, but then I don't spend a lot of time thinking about this shit.

Speaking of ignorance, have you compared it with the ps2 library lately? It's certainly well-beat in terms of shmups and fighters. But does it really matter? Both have worthwhile exclusives, both are worth owning, and that's the end of it really. The only reason I mention it at all is because I hate fanboyism, and severe anti-Sony sentiments cause harm to the entire shmups community.

I don't believe so... From what I can see it's announcing a new revision of the Naomi coin-op, labelled "New Ver.", with new modes and character rebalancing. Interesting find, though.

Probably because it was devved for the Sega developed NAOMI arcade platform. Not to mention they're sponsoring tournaments and such at their chain of arcades, apparently. I'm thinking am.sega.jp is their site for arcade-related stuff?

Anyway, yeah, zero mention of the Dreamcast (ドリームキャスト) on any of those pages.

One thing I do hope G.Rev does is follow Blizzard Entertainment's style of updating content and gameplay balance for their games through patches after Senko no Ronde is released on the 360. It's like a slow development cycle towards something like Street Fighter III 3rd Strike without paying the cost of actually buying the update.

It's a fun game. We'll get screwed in America without a release, and die-hard gamers in Japan wouldn't be caught dead owning a 360. No money for G Rev here. 'Tis a shame, really.
