POLL : Do you TATE your monitor for PC shmups?
If a PC shmup has the option, do you 'tate to play in TATE mode?

I don't, but I probably would if I had a monitor that I could rotate.

Sometimes I'll flip my laptop on its side to play Tate shmups, but I get a heavy glare effect that makes it difficult to see the bottom of the screen so I don't really do it often.

yea, I might if I had a rotatable monitor, but it's just so much easier to plug in and play. funny thing is I have a tated xm29 directly underneath the computer setup except that it's a pain to disconnect the 360/supergun and swap.

I specifically bought a pivoted monitor for TATE, so yes.

Nobody plays PC shmups. If it's not on an arcade cabinet, it doesn't even exist on the material plane.
But no, I don't tate my monitor.

I won't play a vertically oriented shmup with black bars on the side. Totally ruins the experience.
If it's vert & designed for 4:3 then it doesn't seem to give me any problems, even if it's something with a status panel on the side of the screen like Elemental Master. In fact, I prefer that style over horis.
Maybe it's because I'm used to video pinball?
EDIT - Also I find it best to use a cheap LCD for Tate. You may experience a minimal color anomaly towards the bottom half depending on your angle, but arcade screens were mostly tilted backwards anyway, which solves that problem. Adjustable mounts can be found for $10-20 on Amazon. MAME's scan line effect is pretty satisfactory on these screens.

Re: POLL : Do you TATE your monitor for PC shmups?
When I play at my 37" LED/LCD TV I don´t TATE, cause the screen is big enougth.
I have rotated the 27" screen, my PC normaly is conected to for some games in the past.
The problem with the 27" LCD is that the view angle is not symmetric and so the picture is quiet dark from one side.
But mostly I play vertical games with my New Net City cab that has a permanent TATE setting
.
For those of you who consider to build a cab their own. When you play 3:4 vertical games a lot and dislike the black borders, you may build a vertical only cab.
So you can use a 32" or 40" 16:9 LCD screen and cover the unused screen sections. 32" 16:9 will give you 26,1" 4:3 and 40" will make a 32,7" 4:3.
You just have to find an LCD monitor that has absolute symmetrical view angles. Suggestions anyone??
