Not unhappy with the outcome, could still do a lot to optimise the score (and get top 10!) but I kinda wanna move on now...

It's the top 1-loop score for B-Strong without entering the hidden route lol, I'll settle for that on the first game I've 1CCed

Cleared a new course in Darius Gaiden after only a couple days practice: ACFIMRW

Got bored with always taking the usual V route, so I wanted something completely new. Very cool course here, Titanic Lance in stage M is badass. I might try to breeze through all the courses in the game auto-on and then go for an Extra clear. Compared to when I was playing exclusively auto-off it seems like it won't be much trouble. I'll probly go back and try some other auto-off courses when I'm feeling more motivated.

I love how whenever I feel like I really need a new Darius game, I can always go back to the old ones and learn a totally new course

Just cleared the Touhou 12.8 (Fairy Wars) Extra stage. First time reaching the last two spellcards, cleared with 0% motivation remaining.

With that I've cleared all the Windows Touhou extra stages (unless you count Double Spoiler and Shoot the Bullet, which have "EX" scenes but I haven't even unlocked them). Might try to do the PC-98 extra stages someday since I went to the trouble of unlocking them, but I'm quite satisfied with completing the Windows extra stages, as that was a goal I set for myself a long time ago.

Once again. Despite all these shitty mistakes and bad keyboard skills. I'm one of the best Type-III Unlimited scoring players. Not like anybody plays Type-III Unlimited ever.

Great fun, love the sci-fi cover shooting. Super Ball is also a mega fun weapon even though it neuters a lot of the game. I also had a fantasticly exciting finale for the run when I was forced to recover in the second half of the final stage. Final boss is super fun.

-Thunder Cross 1-all

Was expecting this to be easier than OutZone, but it was actually harder. Seems straightforward, but there are a number of memo-gimmicks that can easily fuck you over and lead you into a chain death recovery. Overall I'd say it's kind of a mediocre game to me. Some of the bosses are really fun, notably the stage 3,5, and final boss's, but the stage design is kind of bland and lacking in intensity or creativity outside of a few tight spots. The final boss is probably one of the most fun bosses Konami ever made for an stg though...unless you die during the fight, at which point he becomes one of the worst they ever designed. Super exciting fight though. I killed myself on 2-2 because I was getting bored and had had enough of the game lol.

-R-Type Leo 1cc (World Version)

A real breath of fresh air after Thunder Cross. Shows you don't need to be balls hard to be fun, you just need to make the player sweat. Lots of fun setpieces and intense bosses, even though it only took me 30 minutes or so to 1cc after not having touched it in nearly 5 years or so. The last stage has some great tactical setpieces too, like taking cover behind walls while dispatching enemies with the homing attack.


Gonna take a break now, might try finishing off Biometal and Elemental Master on Mania afterwards. Maybe try Flame Zapper Kotsujin if I have time, though I'm thinking I'll take a break from stg's for a bit soon.

Just made it to the second loop of Shippu Mahou Daisakusen/Kingdom Grandprix with Miyamoto. Quickie 1-all.

I hated this game at first, but I'm actually glad I gave it a second chance, because it's surprisingly fun now that I understand it better. My original complaint was that the first few stages are kind of boring, but now I feel like the brevity of each loop, and the urgent push to take first place, makes the game feel pretty exciting the whole way through. The last two stages are also terrific, and the final bosses are amazing fun.

Might try for a 2-all on this one of these days.

What the hell were they thinking with those checkpoints? I didn't think I could possible "hate" a video game, but this game has me rethinking that mentality. I sunk so much time into this crap with so many 50 minute runs destroyed from the cheapest shit possible including ridiculous hitboxes, lag/speed up swings, and those stupid fucking stage long checkpoints. The game really doesn't look that hard from videos, but holy shit once you actually try and play it becomes a different story.

^ I picked up Gradius III and Darius Twin for SFC a while back, having found both surprisingly good (your SFC GIII Arcade mode commentary was a contributing factor ). Thought about getting Super R-Type as well, for an "Iconic Horis @ SFC Launch" trilogy... but good lord, those checkpoints are irritating as all hell. Totally put me off. Give me a swift, brutal beating (or recovery) restarting midway through the stage any day. Congrats on sticking with it!

I'd def rank GIII and Darius Twin over Super R-Type in that trilogy of games. And if I'm not mistaken Darius Twin is the only 2-player hori on the SNES? That's hard to believe but I think it is (maybe 'm missing a SFC game that never came out in the US). If they had just implemented normal checkpoints and fixed the sling-shotting lag issues in Super R-Type it would have been a lot better.

Killed off the Legendary Gauntlet in Jamestown+. Once the score uploads it will take 16th on the leaderboard, not too bad, but shit compared to first place. Considering the minimal amount of effort I put in I guess I shouldn't complain.

Also I just managed to 1cc RefleX and Alltynex Second in one night, so I've now cleared the entire Alltynex Trilogy.

Might come back for Menace and hard on Kamui and Second. Too bad RefleX doesn't have a hard mode, I feel that one would really benefit from it.

I can't believe I didn't like these games at first. They're now among my favorite shmups ever.
