Ya know, the more I think about it, between the added raunch and the added rank, I think i will pass on Ibara. The game itself looks gorgeous but the characters' sado maso style (and somewhat odd theme of men vs. women) really is a turn off for me now personally. I also have to wonder what Jun's take on the character art would be. Did Jun ever need to resort to raunch or Psikyo style antics in order to design aesthetically appealing shmup heroines/villians?

Also, Battle Garegga is one of my favorite shmups ever which is why I was so pumped for Ibara. But I still haven't even scratched the surface of properly figuring out Garegga's rank calculator (beyond shooting the flamingos and staying away from a power up now and then :P ) and still need to read up on it.

I think instead I'm gonna pool my money toward a new PCB, either ESPRaDe or RF II. Progear is currently the only PCB I have right now and I need a change up in the old rig.

Now I've got something great to look forward to with the PS2 port - Cartoon Crotch Shots ! :D

That kind of art might be weird for a game, but I'm definitely not uptight about that sort of thing.
SHOOT IT QUICKLY !

You should try to look past the softcore porn stuff; Ibara is an incredible game. Not playing because there are underwear shots is like not playing the original Zelda because the graphics are dated. Just look past the silly graphics and enjoy the spectacular game that Ibara is. You'll regret passing this one up.

The DOJ character designer was your apprentice, wasn't he?

Inoue: Yes. I spoke to not just him, but almost all the designers as I quit, like I was their mother-in-law. I gave them advice like "make the next one sexier than before!" and "you have to emphasize the chest!" It's a "sexy" Dodonpachi, isn't it? (laughs).

Curl up for awhile with the Garegga ST thread; it'll take you awhile to get through everything, but as you know, this game requires a ludicrous amount of "cramming" to get the hang of, outside of even actually playing the thing. Also, I'd suggest watching a superplay of it (if you have the Saturn port, you can unlock one or two of 'em right on the disc); I don't like using superplays, but out of near-exasperation I eventually watched one of Garegga, and got a better impression of the playstyle that it demands from you. Of course, as I said earlier, hopefully Ibara's "rank-o-meter" will make things a bit easier for that game.

Yeah, now they'll accuse Cave of being SO uncreative that they had to steal Raizing's stuff. :P

I've always said that Raizing was the more creative of the two.
But that's outside the scope of this thread ^_-

Any self-confessed Garegga fan should not miss this release, regardless of their standpoint on cartoon panty-shots, and girls in... revealing... clothing. The game is fantastic.

Besides, it's S&M characters for an S&M style of gameplay system. Inspired. ^_-

ha Interesting. "Mother in law." :P

And yes BM, I have read thru parts of Rando's ST guide. He and Matt (superkiller) have been of great help. But I need to dig in again. And I'm not watching any superplays until I absorb more of the guide itself.

Not long to go for the release. Still no word on OST preorders, though... :/

Preorder bonus: 16-page full-color booklet from Arcadia with strategy and character illustrations.

Notice how Teresa's chest is now covered in white instead of bare? Guess all that underboob was too spicy for CERO (or Sony).

"Underboob?" Is that a technical term?

I don't know, if it's a censor, it's not a very good one...it looks like they just didn't add color to that part of her, for some reason, and left her chest/stomach region as grayscale...really odd looking. I'm half-tempted to call it a coloration error or something like that.

EDIT: Also, some interesting bits in those screenshots...it appears that at least some of them were taken from "arrange" mode (due to the rank-o-meter and the list o' weapons and the option formation at the bottom of the screen), but I noticed that in some of the shots, it looked like some of the spots where the weapons are listed are blank...maybe you start out with a full set of 'em, but can lose or discard some of them somehow? Hmmm...

You know Sony. They have pretty damn strict content regulation; particularly in Japan. Wouldn't be surprised if CERO was responsible for that as well.

He's a bit more loli style, and has become more prevelant in his manga. One can assume he'd go that route for future game characters.

Huh? The US side are the nazi-esque ones, w/ their no 2D bullshit. Unregulated violence is also more commonplace in Japan. They're just not starting to see they need to prevent elementary school kids from buying GTA.

Yeah, there was some random scandalousness in one/some of the Otogi mangas I had. Damn shame, imo.

(sliding further off topic...) Here's another example of some similar only-on-PS2 censorship that was done, presumably in the name of getting a lower CERO rating: http://www.f3.dion.ne.jp/~halt-si/lang2005a.htm

You'll have to forgive me as I am vastly unfamiliar with his non-Cave work. Thanks for the added info/clarification.

I know, I just hate how Lucas "rips himself off" by making symbolic references to Ep V-6 in the prequels. :P hehe Sorry, could not resist.

Well, here's a good example. It's definitely not the majority of his work, but undeniably there.

Re: SJE censorship/ratings ect., does cero 12 probably mean parts of the game itself and not just the pre-order illustrations were censored too? Or does a cero 12 rating relate to blood like the ESRB "teen" rating?

Actually, I think you might be on to something...check out this art of Meidi I found on GPara:

Increased crotch coverage, it'd seem, has made an appearance here as well. Though, oddly enough, they didn't seem to have bothered to do the same to Lace.

Also, on taking another look at the PS2 cover art posted a page or two back, the odd coloring on Teresa's chest/stomach area seems to be there too, unlike in the original poster art...though I still say that's gotta be the wimpiest "censorship" ever, heh heh.

I'm not sure...I believe that ESPGaluda got a "12" rating, and I don't believe that anything therein was censored, though it had some blood and somewhat racy outfits in there...if anyone knows otherwise, feel free to correct me.

Oh I like the old school (as in 1st grader) art direction that they've decided to take.

Plus I think if you read between the lines the oversized yum yums could signify that we should be expecting 'big' things from Cave.

That's because Lace is technically "legal" while Meidi isn't. ^_-

Anyone managed to score a decent pic of the new Ibara flyer (the "Pink Sweets" one)? The character art looks like it's one by a different artist to Tomoyuki Kotani on that one.
