Let's just put it this way: the entire game with Chronicle fits in about half a DVD. They could definitely put it in, but I think they'll probably opt for a DLC model because why not, some free money for 'em.

You're right, I'm forgetting about the hardware. But I'm sure they can drip feed Chronicle as DLC, there's just so much of it. Actually playing the arcade is probably more economical if that turns out to be the case.

"Common wisdom" in the business accepts that new releases are primarily purchased by owners of current generation hardware - i.e. people with dated hardware aren't a market for new releases because if they wanted (could afford) new releases then they would buy current generation hardware. Given that some games have a 2 year development cycle and that the PS4/Xbox One were released 17 months ago PS3/Xbox 360 releases are pretty much done. The fact that Darius Burst is an older (PSP(2009), Arc(2010), iOS/Android(2012)) game isn't even a factor - maybe despite its relatively high price in the mobile market the sales of the iOS/Android version over the past three years have been steady enough to convince Taito to do a home console version and right now the PS4 has the largest global install base of the current generation.

Furthermore even "LE-only retail version" doesn't promise a PS4 disc. Lets not forget the Western 505 Games release of Terraria for PS3 where the Collectors edition came with a "Digital Game Download Card" and the regular retail version was a DLC code inside a physical game case (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4 releases had a playable disc).

"Vita TV" Burst is just the digital version of the PSP game. I'm not sure if it will show up in the actual Vita TV store, but if you buy it on your PSP it will show up in the Vita's download list. The Vita TV can play any digital PSP game.

It looks pretty decent running on an HDTV, although I feel like there some very slight lag. As a game it can't compare at all to ACEX despite being more or less the same engine, but it's still pretty good for what it is.

Speaking of "unofficial" versions of Burst. I wonder if Taito was aware of the progress being made on the emulation front and this factored into the sudden decision to make an official release at all? I assume the "unofficial" version will be sealed away from the public for a while now too? It definitely should be; we need to respect that Taito is doing a legit release.

I assume they are aware of the PC version work, as a few pics were posted on twitter. It was actually planned to be released like... this week. But it's been canceled since this came to light. Good thing too, would've gotten lawyers on them faster than bees to a picnic. The PC version is probably canceled forever now. But that's good, playing it on a console is far superior to playing it on PC

It would be great to have this game on PS4 (physical release, please), but let's not get overly excited. For now, all we have are rumours and wishful thinking. If nothing emerges within the next two years, then maybe we'll get the PC release that has been worked on.

I would advise everyone to temper their expectations. Perhaps greatly, judging by some of the overly ecstatic responses here.

Darius Burst is pretty meh no matter how you slice it. It's not even a true Taito game, they farmed it out to Pyramid (DBZ Budokai devs), who are hardly a name associated with STGs. I'm sure Pyramid had substantial advising and development support; but the game's C-list origins are plainly obvious in its overall blandness, poorly thought through weapon mechanics, and dull bosses that fail to recapture the awe and gravitas of Gaiden/G-Darius' encounters.

I am not much of a Darius fan, for reasons I have discussed here before, but even I can recognize that the four original Taito arcade releases have a certain weight and appeal to them that Burst almost entirely lacks. Only the opening stage's music and a handful of boss attacks are able to allude to this.
