But hearing about all the terrible shmups makes me appreciate the good ones more.

NTSC-J: You know STGs are in trouble when you have threads on how to introduce them to a wider audience and get more people playing followed by threads on how to get its hardcore fan base to play them, too.

Well, the saddest thing so far... It's not even a proper shmup.
I mean, it might be a borderliner. But still.

It's closest to Atomic Runner Chelnov, but obviously nowhere near as good.

Going out of the way to make a "sad game" above all other development priorities sounds like an awful idea. They should first focus on making a good game first and foremost and then add the "emotional depth" or whatever else they're going for.
