Any questions you have in particular? Are you familiar with the other Dodonpachi games? In terms of basic mechanics it's pretty similar to Dodonpachi Daioujou, though advanced scoreplay strategy is quite a bit different.

I've played previously games in the past purely for survival. I sort of understand how the chaining works but I was wondering if there was somewhere that thoroughly explained the basics of the scoring system.
It's not a game that's had as much scoring attention as previous DoDonpachi games. The general rule of thumb for scoring is not to drop chains, (a dropped chain outside of a hyper results in a partial chain drop, autobombing or dropping a chain during a hyper results in a complete chain drop and is very bad) and to try and use larger rank hypers when possible rather than a bunch of small hypers higher level hypers last longer, do more damage and give you a boosted score bonus for the hyper. Rank 10 hypers are great for this, but the trick is recharging quickly after a hyper ends.
Ah I over looked this post, I didn't see it in the board index. Yeah the recharges I've seen remind of death smiles recharges. Yeah I'm just trying to figure out what causes enemy ships to drop small or big stars. Thank you for the link.
Unfortunate that the game is as competitive for scoring as the old ones. I heard there is no arcade port for this one?
All the DonPachi games (except Dodonpachi Maximum I guess) are arcade originally, so yes there is an arcade version. Unless you're talking about 1.5 or Xbox 360 mode specifically.

some enemies drop big stars when your chain meter is full but it doesn't really change anything ever in the game, the vast majority of your score is from st5 and hyper recharges if you're going for overflow, otherwise the clear bonus/hibachi bonus is huge as well
lots of big stars are also dropped when you kill a screen cancelling enemy with a hyper, if your hyper ends with the stars on screen then they turn into the purple aura stars and you can pick them up for an instant huge recharge
another way to get big stars is use a lv6+ hyper, then all the onscreen bullets turn into big stars (you get only small ones with lv5 and under, but the above method gives you big stars with any level hyper)
in other words, in order to score you need enemies that clear the screen when killed and lots of bullets onscreen when it happens, which only really happens in st5 (stage 4 doesn't have a single cancel enemy so it's completely worthless for score in 1.01)
if you're looking for easy ways to get some score, just 1) don't die 2) don't trigger hibachi

Overflow is the exploit found in the AC version right? I've only heard about overflow but have no idea what it is. Right now I'm just scoring on 1.5.
overflow happens in 1.01 and arcade version when you hit 21,4m GP value
1.5 is very different (and without overflow)
iirc in 1.5 every enemy drops big stars if you have a lv6+ hyper and stars give more hyper gauge the higher your rank is
So in 1.5 scoring is important still through stages 1-4 compared to how it was in AC with overflow? Also is there a difference between grounded and air ships? Like if one drops more stars than the other depending on what it's shot with. I've played a lot of deathsmiles and for a while I didn't know that certain enemies drop more crowns depending on if you kill them with shot or laser.
Edit. I know a lot of these things could easily be tested in game but I work all week and won't be able to play until the weekend. Trying to figure out everything I can so I can grind out the game efficiently.

You'll do it efficiently by grabbing some good replays first and then figuring out why they do what they do.
Yeah I've watched a couple replays and got stage 1 consistently. Just trying to figure out the little things I might be over looking. Also, thanks for the help.
ive been watching some replays and I have some questions.
What is the benefit of being so close to enemy ships when destroying them? I know in DFK when you're close to the boss ship you build more hyper meter.
Is there any reason to kill things with shot over laser other than for chaining purposes? Does killing certain things with shot or laser give me more hyper?
I've been watching replays and they end stage 1 with 9 hyper and I'm barely landing 6 hyper.
point blanking generates more hypers, especially when you're hitting enemies that still haven't properly entered the screen and are invincible
having a high hit count also speeds up hyper gain, picking up bees with a high hit count results in more hyper as well+there is a bonus from the last bee for getting them all IIRC and the killing the pods of the st1 boss while they are spinning gives you 2 hypers
not that anything of this matters as you don't want to use a lv10 hyper that early
my bad, almost forgot that some people actully play 1.5
either way the first 2 stages aren't worth much even in 1.5 and the majority of the score stiill comes from st5
though you have that mechanic where you charge hypers faster the higher your rank is and you can max out rank somewhere in st3 but you might not be able to handle the game at 50 rank
