What are your top 3 toughest post-Cave shmup challenges?
What are your top 3 toughest post-Cave shmup challenges?
Dodonpachi SaiDaiOuJou was released for home consoles on May 30th 2013. I'm interested to know what you think are the top 3 toughest shmup games/modes* released since then.
If difficulty is not your measuring stick then top 3 most enjoyable to play your preferred way.
Basically, what are your top 3 Shmups of the post-Cave era so far? If you've got videos to demonstrate why, then by all means post the links!
#STG4WD>>
*only 1 mode per game though!

Are we picking "top 3 toughest" or "top 3 most enjoyable?" Make up your mind.

Okay I'll bite. It's hard to pick, but here's a few of the most enjoyable challenges for me:
Cho Ren Sha 68k (on hard mode)
Has two things I like: emphasis on fast movement and a good amount of difficult rng patterns. I cleared both loops last year, but I still return to it frequently to try for higher scoring runs (which amounts to no bombing/no missing everything in this game, along with a few tricks).
Armed Police Batrider (advanced course, team with garrega and mahou characters on it)
As much as it kicks my ass, especially with the aforementioned secret characters, I simply can't get enough of the bosses in this game. Rediculously creative and fun mix of cool bullet patterns and more unorthodox hazards like grenades, flame throwers, homing lasers, buzz saws, medieval maces...
Any Touhou on Lunatic
Pretty much my go to for when I want some very dense and very random/twitchy bullet dodging. Not the fastest or the hardest games around, but they never fail to provide lots of great twitchy moments.
*edit*
I misread the main thread, heh, I'll come back with some post 2013 games.

Impossible Spell Card is well within the target date range.Squire Grooktook wrote:Any Touhou on Lunatic
Let's say Double Dealing Character just squeaks in there too!

Be good to know.
Essentially the thread is about recommendations for post-Cave games (PoCa Games, if you like...)

If you like any of the recently released shooters, make sure you request to see them on the survey for the Shmup Convention that STG Weekly is organising:
http://shmups.system11.org/posting.php? ... =1&t=53540
I listed these:
Raiden V
Crimzon Clover
Jamestown
Astebreed
Valkyrius
Resogun
Luftrausers
Also requested a panel session with Eugene Jarvis on his new game with Housemarque.
And a live concert by Manabu Namiki

I didn’t know there were any games released after SDOJ
Besides CC:WI

Is this genre going to be defined by B.C and A.C now? (before and after Cave)
I would say B.C, its tough being perfect on Raiden Fighters and any Raizing for that matter. Medal collecting isn't my style because I was a slow and steady tap dodger. However, I'm expanding after getting the RF Aces collection and being inspired by other Raizing runs.

There's something about the phrase "post-cave" that makes us sound like recovering junkies.

Typos caused by cat on keyboard.
