Nice. Will definitely buy from there sometime when I feel like getting back into Touhou.

Hopefully this also eventually ends up with Touhou on Steam like with their other games.

I don't think it's a good idea to bring the worst game in the series to the west.

ZUN was previously experimenting with DDC being digitially distributed through Playism JP so it was really only a matter of time. Pleasing news to hear nonetheless.

I expect we'll be seeing future Touhou games get official localizations if this is successful at all, so I'm wondering if he's considering a simultaneous release date for digital distribution or if it'll still be first released at Comiket and then localized/released on Playism later.

Great news. I still have 6 imported touhou games I ordered from paletweb when I lived in Germany.

Yea 2hu would probably make a killing on steam, but it's good to see it get any type of official western releases.

DDC is the only one on the Japanese Playism store, isn't it? It makes sense that they'd start there.

Back catalog would be wonderful, though.

One of the worst cases of "too little, too late" I've seen.

Touhou games have been so heavily pirated for well over a decade that we're far past the point of anyone outside Japan paying for them, other than mega-weeaboos shelling out for pity donations while not realizing that ZUN's coffers are already quite engorged.

I figure it's a given that they'll be using fan translations, like MangaGamer and JAST have both resorted to doing with certain official releases.

I partially agree about too little too late. I feel like if Zun had taken advantage of the weeaboo hype train back in 2007-2008, it could have created some publicity and marketing for the genre as a whole. As it stands, the hype is mostly over.

Still though "mega weeaboo's shelling out for pity donations" lol. If most of the franchise comes over, it'll be a nice opportunity for stg enthusiasts to buy the games legally and officially without the pains of importing. I'd be willing to bet the majority of stg fans who like the series have pirated the games but would be completely willing to spend a few buck for official/legal copies.

He'll probably sell 50k copies or so, if not more, which means that it's a nice amount of pocket change for very little extra work. I would be very surprised if bringing Touhou to the West doesn't pay off for ZUN and Playism.

Well that's alright news.
With this, I wouldn't be surprised if Touhou 14, 14.3 and Urban Legend in Limbo come onto steam sometime this year.

They would be guaranteed to sell well on Steam because Steam is filled with touhou fans both secondary (who would probably see a western steam release as an opportunity to finally play one of the games) and primary which could possibly give STGs some more exposure in the PC gaming crowd.

I will probably buy at least one touhou game if more of them have western releases. I prefer to avoid dealing with importing stuff from other countries whenever possible.

The last Touhou game I bought was, hmm, Moutain of Faith I think. I'm so far behind in that series. So yeah I'm interested here, hope they can expand to the whole series.

I'm assuming it's been fan-translated for over a year now, and that the patch will work with the playism version.

Same here, couldn't you already buy it on the Japanese Playism site if you were fine with reading Japanese?

I've heard that the patcher doesn't work with the downloadable version of the game, only the retail version, but support could certainly be added.

They changed it to not need Japanese locale, that's about it I guess.

From what I've heard it seems that Playism wanted to do an official translation but ZUN refused it because he doesn't know English well enough to verify the accuracy of the translation himself. No idea if this is actually true or not.

Seems Playism is holding a survey to get an idea of which non-Zun Touhou games people might be interested in seeing them snag (no guarantees, of course); there are a dozen options listed, plus a write-in slot if you'd prefer something not named here. I'm not familiar with most of the stuff there, so I have a bit of homework to do...
