DDP2 versions

Post by system11 »

Does anyone know what the differences are between V1.00 and V1.01 / 1.02 of DDP2? I got a cart this week and it's V1.00, crashes on the 4th boss with a PICCMD error every time when it does the alternating huge laser blasts. I'm using the red ship.

I've got version 1.00 and have played it through without crashes. Not sure of the changes between versions, but I'd consider updating mine if they are significant.

Version 1.02 adds the ability to change your shot type in-game with button 4. Don't know if there's any other differences.

Was it a new cart, one of Yatons NOS kits from ebay? I know they did some work on the mobos before shipping them (battery removed, replaced w/coin cell).

One of Yatons and yes it had acid damage and it's boxed back up and being sent for a refund. I was willing to look past the acid damage but this has a repeatable crash bug (which I just tested in MAME and V1.00 there doesn't do it).

Guess I better check the battery in my mobo.

Always gotta check the NEOs and the PGMs for Acid Damage.

As for Yaton, sometimes it's too good to be true.

I've opened a thread in the past about a similar problem, my cart constantly crashed on the second boss level.

Xian Xi from the Neo Geo forums advised me to replace a resistor on the back of the mobo and the problem was partially solved, the problem went from constant to random.

I ended up buying another mobo and played A LOT with the same cart and never had the same problem again. The strage thing is that i still use the old mobo for my other PGM games with no problems at all.

I know it's weird, but i can assure i have a faulty mobo only with one game, lol, never seen anything like it with all the other systems i own.

PS- Not sure about the game version...

Thanks for the heads up. I got the email from Yanton mentioning the battery change but I'll be sure to check it for acid damage and play it through. To be honest I'd probably still keep it and fish for a partial refund as I've got a spare mobo and bought this for the other stuff

How was the mod done? The mod where you remove a diode and resistor seems to create errors.
Testing other mods on my mobos now with a rechargable cell.

What sorts of errors? I haven't received any having done the diode/resistor removal mod and installing a battery holder.

Mine had acid damage as well; this seems to be very common with PGM boards.

mobo is just a sweet bonus, damaged or not. I'm excited to have a NOS kit.

Can the version be updated to 1.02 via socketed chip?

I believe so. I ordered some 27c160 chips and will give it a shot with one.

\o/ Just checked my pgm mobo and no acid damage (also v1.02 cart!)

Any issue with just leaving the battery off? Sure I won't be able to save scores, but that's never been a big deal with other PCBs I own.

No problem with that, I ran mine sans battery for a while.

Damn I'm tempted to buy a replacement but I'm...
1) Not sure how he will deal with me given we have a pending refund which I'm waiting for.
2) Worried I'll get another bad one.

Anyone here buy any of the Futari kits from yaton? Would be interesting to see what shape they're in.

Not sure about here, but WYO_vr4 did at NG:
WYO_vr4 wrote:I was a little concerned about the Mushi kits but they are legit and brand new. Must have just been sitting in a warehouse in China. Yaton told me he has a ton of them available so hopefully the price will come down as he releases them into the wild.
I'm wondering how many a 'ton' is, but it's definitely got to be quite a bit more than the five he listed.

I haven't looked at the NG info, but the serial number on the PCB and the box shown definitely looks like the international version. I wouldn't expect any impact on JPN kits in the market.

But what about only 100 kits released!? On a serious note, I'd definitely buy one at that price. After all, its BL+ so even more raaaarrreeee.

Yaton told me he has over 100 of these kits for sale. I also heard he sold one for super cheap before a couple got bid up to $800+. He apparently got a hell of a deal on the lot.

My DDP2 kit arrived and it's trash, so I thought I'd post here. The battery on mine either wasn't changed, or it was changed with the original type. It's tough to tell. There is acid damage all over that area on both sides. The artwork looks like it's been wet, so it looks like it got moldy or something. It's also 1.00, but I wasn't too concerned with that.

Buyer beware..

Ouch dude, does it work at least? There doesn't seem to be much in the way of traces in that corner.

Looks pretty much like the battery was removed and replaced after wiping off acid from the PCB and the artwork does look like it has suffered from damp storage. Have you contacted him about returning the kit and a refund? I got an email from him before I received my kit informing me about the possible battery issues and that he'd both refund and cover the return postage if I wasn't happy with it.

The return was approved, but no offer to cover postage. There was no response, just the Ebay mechanism telling me to mail it to him.

I'm not stupid, so I expect stuff like this when dealing with HK/China. If it was just the art, or just the PCB then I'd probably keep it. Between the shitty PCB, the art being FUBAR, and the cart being 1.00.. Refund it is..

Okay, I can now confirm that you can update from v1.00 to v1.02 by writing v102.u8 to an M27C160 EPROM. Works great!
