Time to hit up FrancoB for that yoke flip switch
I have the following rotary PCBs now: Victory Road, Guerrilla War, Time Soldiers, Midnight Resistance, Gondomania, Heavy Barrel (my favorite), Cal.50 with Loop 24 sticks, Bermuda Triangle.
Still need Ikari I and III, Down Town and Search and Rescue but S.A.R. has been a bitch to track down :(

Got this one in yesterday from a fellow forum member. Great game, so glad to have this one now. So far me and my family love it and I think it's my wife's favorite shooter which is always a good thing :D

I've had the rare pleasure of playing SNK's Search & Rescue (SAR) at Marriot's Great America back in April of 1990 -- it was the only time that I got to play it just once (despite having inserted a single credit and getting an overall score in the 200,000+ points range). Haven't seen nor played it since then.

Back in 1990, I could 1-Life/1CC'ed Heavy Barrel with five lives in reserve (and assemble the Heavy Barrel super weapon to use on the final boss without suffering a single scratch easily) -- the average scores were in the 1,400,000+ point range easily.

Very awesome. Only rotary game I ever got to play as a kid were Ikari and Heavy Barrel. HB is really awesome. Proabably my favorite rotary game. S.A.R. has been really hard to find so far but hopefully I can land a board soon. It's a real treat to play these games because you have to have a proper stick for them or it's just not the same.

I got to see a SAR cab in action some years after its release - funny to think how "old" it looked in only 4-7 years after release.

Is Seta's Down Town worth anything? It never impressed me in a good way when I tried it out in MAME.

Yesterday I finally recieved my package from Japan :D .
There were 2 PCB's in the package - Mystic Riders / Gun Hoki and the awesome :P kusoge Blood Warriors.

Both PCB's are not working :? .
I cleaned the PCB's and visually checked them and there seems to be nothing wrong with them :| . So I changed the ROM board of Mystic Riders to my R-Type Leo main board and Mystic Riders worked flawlessly :D . So the fault is on the Mystic Riders main board (M92 A-B). Here is the big question - is it better trying to fix that main board or should I try to hunt down another M92 A-B board and could you take any M92 A-B board from any M92 game ?

If any of you guys (System 11 :?: ) have a working M92 A-B main board lying around please let me know.

Blood Warriors is a really strange case.
At first the PCB didn't do anything when turned on :| .
Then with the PCB on I pressed on the surface chips on the top board and the "RAM Check OK" message popped up on screen but instead of starting the game it stays on the "RAM Check OK" message for ca. 30 seconds, then you have a white garbled mess on screen (just one second) and then it seems to reset to the "RAM Check OK" message - and this cycle repeats endless (I let it run for 1/2 hour).

My question is now - since it seems that the surface mounted chips need resoldering (something I can't do myself and it's not guaranteed to work then) I think it's best to just buy a Great 1000 Mile Rally PCB (it does run on the same hardware) and take the main board from there - so question is - Is a swap like this working with the Kaneko PCB's ?

And as above - If anybody has a working Great 1000 Mile Rally PCB floating around let me know.

God the PCB hobby is really fun but sometimes it pisses me off   => end of rant / help cry :D .

Yes the M92 A boards are interchangeable. What's wrong with it though?

You should get someone to fix the Blood Warriors, sounds like a really easy repair and the boards are certainly in more than one variety.

The M92 does this:

It shows this picture (for ca. 10 seconds)
Image

Then cycles to this (and sits there forever)
Image

These two pictures are slightly different each time you turn the PCB on but the cycles are always the same.

Not much of a help but the PCB looks super clean.

So you mean you can't change the main board from Blood Warriors / Great 1000 Mile Rally ?

I'd be surprised if it worked. Yours sounds fixable anyway, reflowing cracked SMT pins is easy.

Successfully got the battery changed and ... Time To Hunt!
Was looking through the service menu, and there's an option for a three player mode. I've never seen this game setup that way in the wild, so I might have to look into that out sometime.

Also received Vasara 2. I really like the combo system in the first one, lots of fun. :)
But please tell me "hard mode" doesn't really have 12 stages. Surely it means a second loop, right?

Always enjoy your blog. A tidbit I picked up from one of your entries that Hero Tonma is actually a board I could pick up - i've certainly never seen one but has been on my radar as a PCE game to grab.

I got my System 8 plug from ArcadeForge.de.

Unfortunately I notice the edge connector is a bit closer to the PCB at one end than another...I don't think it'll cause problems. Beyond that and the somewhat iffy soldering job, it looks like a quality product and I love the silkscreened list of supported games.

Be careful with some of those - for example the Tecmo one is not good, some of those boards are power hungry and the tracks for +5/gnd on the adapter are nowhere near big enough - end result = warm adapter!

I actually did notice that, don't know why I passed over mentioning it. There are some really thin connections on this one too. My fault for thinking a PCB would be better than a wired adapter (wires probably would be thick enough). I hope to give it a go soon. Test will be Ninja Princess, which isn't ideal because of its relative rarity. Fingers crossed.

I have the Sega one myself, it's not too bad. Tecmo one is not up to the job at all though since those are all greedy 2 layer (some are triple deck).

Ninja Princess (at least my board, I think there may be some other revisions) is a single board with daughterboards, so it might work out. Thanks for the advice!

Pretty pleased to remind myself about the other things being stored along with it - Ninja Emaki, Dead Connection - great stash for fans of early person-based shooters.

I really need to do something about all my custom/battery based games, either recap them or offload if I can't take care of them properly.

I'm hardly the only one receiving one of these kits these days, but I'm happy. Only minor damage due to acid leakage and the game seems to play well :D

I read that a Madcatz MC2 is good for hacking it to a Model 3 PCB - problem is - does anybody know the analouge / Racer PCB / Scud Race Model 3 Pinout ?

That's exactly how mine looked in terms of damage, but I couldn't play past the ST4 boss, crash every time.

A full kit of Mushihimesama Futari BL Another Ver.

Sadly, the thin sticker seems to have a nasty crease. The cardboard thing (?) is pretty cool and in good condition, as is the rest of the artwork. Is laminating the original paperwork considered a no-no? I'm thinking it'd be nice to protect the stuff.

The outer box the package was in was well padded, but the CAVE box inside of it had the PCB in just one thin layer of bubble wrap. It was held by a pair of slotted cardboard inserts though. The CAVE box itself was a bit beat-up, not sure how normal that is:

I haven't played to the end yet, but passed the 4'th boss. Seems to be ok, though I've only been able to compared with the MAME version.

Strips often crease due to the segmented backing. Laminating would make you the devil, just don't do it. Get some A4 plastic sleeves and put the A4 art/manual in there, and leave them in the box. Job done.

I would say that it's not normal, just a function of how it's been treated. I haven't owned one that was damaged that much, aside from a couple that had shipping labels on them (ugh).
