Does Capcom Generations 3 contain autofire for Vulgus and Exed Exes?

^Yep - at least the PlayStation one does. Autofire, full button reconfig and TATE are standard across CG1, CG3 and CG4's shooters.

I might, if it wasn't so long with so little variation. The core shooting's fun.

I own CG3 mainly for Son Son. ^_~

I think Exed Exes is okay, but Gun.Smoke is by a million miles my favourite Capcom shooter of that era.

Fantastic game imo.

Vulgus and Exed Exes have the solid core fundamentals of a shooting game down. You are constantly moving and dodging, and you shoot to survive and thrive. The enemies are erratic and don't act how we are accustomed to shmup enemies to act (fly in > shoot spread > fly out), which makes for great fun weaving through bullet fire and enemy kamikaze pilots. They're not perfect (see Vulgus' meaningless "checkpoints") but are very playable.

Maybe it's just the pure aesthetics but the two are more enjoyable than 1942, which to me is about as bland as a shmup comes (I think the music might be one of the reasons). Then again I have spent little time seriously with 1942, when there exists 1941 Counter Attack and 19XX: War Against Destiny.

I feel like there are some nice things about Exed Exes. Been a while since I've played, but IIRC Bullet visibility is nice. Ship speed is nice, and those, together, make a big difference on how enjoyable the game is. IIRC, though, there's a lot of enemies that will shoot from the bottom of the screen up at you which discourages you from using the whole screen which is kind of lame (Should have followed Xevious, imo, and stopped enemies from firing once they've scrolled past a certain point). Also there's some places where you feel kind of underpowered because you can't kill one of the bigger enemies before the screen scrolls them into you which is also kind of lame (Maybe would have been helped by having some ground based enemies that you can fly over).

I played Thunder Force VI on Hard and Maniac Mode because I heard that's where you get the true ending. However, once I beat the game on Hard Mode, I ended up with the standard ending. I thought the Bad Ending was when you play on Kids or Easy Mode, the Normal Ending is on Normal Mode, and the Good Ending is on Hard and Maniac. Is the Normal Ending the default ending for the RVR-00 Phoenix? Do I have to use the Rynex-R or the Syrinx and beat it on Hard or Maniac using one of those two ships to get the best ending?

Just thought I'd chime in and say that the rapid auto included for Capcom Generation 3 Exed Exes isn't rapid enough, you'll either need to hammer the button or use a peripheral with a autofire switch.

Edit: I just found out that you really do need to play with the Rynex or the Syrinx on Hard or Maniac to get the true ending. I get it now.

Are there any differences between the x86k version of Cho Ren Sha and the windows port?

The Windows port also has no slowdown, making the game a lot harder.
interesting, where exactly does the slowdown happen? the windows version already feels a bit too easy without it outside of the TLB final

It's a different refresh rate too, as previously mentioned. X68k is about 55Hz, the Windows port runs at whatever you monitor is at (probably 60Hz)

I'm trying to play Nexzr on Magic Engine, but when I'm playing, the game suddenly freezes. Do I need to find a newer Magic Engine or does it not work on Magic Engine? Or should I use Ootake?

Shienryu on the Saturn... it lets you rotate the screen, but I can't find an option to rotate the controller inputs (it's designed for 'ghetto tate', in other words). I saw on kollision's blog that it supports controller rotation, but I can't find the option. Am I missing something?

Another Cho Ren Sha 68k question: On the stage 4 boss, if you just destroy the core of the "blimp rush" enemies, do you get less points than if you destroyed the wings individually?

Hey all,

I'm trying to remember a game from my childhood (early 1990s). It was on MS-DOS, and I'm fairly sure the writing was in Japanese or Chinese. I think it was on a 5 1/4" floppy.

The game required a password or code to start, you needed to figure out the pattern in a bunch of coloured blocks or something.

The first screen was a picture of a grey aircraft carrier from the side with a blurb of text, and then after that you could pick 1 or 2 players sort of thing.

Graphics were similar to 1943, except there was no health bar, I believe it was 1 hit KO. The upgrades would change the look of your projectiles and missiles, and only came out of little red balloons that would come across the screen once in a while. After enough upgrades, your ship actually changed into a weird green alien ship that had its own upgrade progression. I think its bullets spread out further. Maybe the upgrades were randomly cycling though, but they definitely came out of red balloons.

I remember the first level being mostly water and jungle, and at the end there were a bunch of aircraft carriers (grey metal and orangey wood panels) where you had to destroy the guns. Don't remember the boss at all, though.

Thanks!

Right. I just approved the debut post above, so it's only just gone public. If one of us hasn't got it within an hour we're not worth the paper this forum is printed on. :)

Wow.... umm, I don't even know what to say. I've been trying to figure out what game it was for YEARS and after watching a video of Dawn Raider I can say this was definitely the game I was thinking of. I can't believe I mis-remembered so many of the details (colour of the 2nd ship, etc) but oh my gosh.

Thank you :D

edit: actually now that I think about it, does anyone know how the password screen works? Hahaha.

Man, this forum never fails to impress me with its ability to identify shmups no matter how vague the description.

Question about Crimzon Clover: World Iginition - What conditions need to be fulfilled for the green text to appear as the first gate in Stage 5 opens (the text that effectively amounts to the entire "story" of the game)? I've only triggered it a couple times, and I'm not sure if it's simply random or if there's something you can do to consistently trigger it.

What do you have to do in Gradius (NES) to get autofire enabled?

That is an option yes. However sometimes during Gradius run autofire appears provided by the game so I am looking for an answer what causes that.
