Questions about HYPERSTICK, Sega VS, HORI HSJ-12 and HSS-07

Post by mnneurope »

I have some questions about these 4 sticks (I know there is just now a topic about different parts for SHMUP sticks, but these are more specific q, and it would be much appreciated if U could help me with these, thanks)

I have a Konami HYPERSTICK and I use it for PS Raiden DX and PS Strikers 1945, and it suits me well (it could be a little more tighter, but its ok, its a little loose, thats all)

this website says that this stick uses "full Seimitsu, like some Sega Virtua Sticks". is that true? does this stick uses Seimitsu parts? I dont know, I didnt open it and wouldn't know even if I did open it, unless there is a "made by Seimitsu" on every part inside it...

1 question on this part; is there a difference between different Seimitsu parts in terms of tightness/looseness of directional stick? if I buy a stick with Seimitsu parts, will directional stick be always of certain tightness or there can be a significant difference between different parts of Seimitsu directional stick?

I need to buy some sticks for SFC and SS, so I was thinking about HORI HSJ-12 for SFC and HORI HSS-07 or SEGA HSS-0136 for SS.

so, my questions would be:

does anybody here know what parts these sticks use? do SEGA HSS-0136 use Seimitsu parts and what version of it, if not all?
is there more than 1 version of this stick?

and if there are more than 1 version of this stick, how do I know which one is which and what parts do they use if they use different parts for different versions?

and what parts does HORI HSJ-12 for SFC use?
I intend to play these games with it: Assault Suits Valken, KiKi KaiKai Nazo no Kuro Mantle, Wild Guns
Image

and what parts HORI HSS-07 for SS use?
I intend to play these games with it: Tenchi o Kurau II, Batsugun, Metal Slug, Sengoku Ace Episode II, Cotton 2

Im asking all these questions, because, although sticks themselves are not that expensive, sticks + shipping are, so It would be nice If I knew what sticks would suit me, so I can buy them :D

Again, thanks for all information U can supply me with, its much appreciated! :D

HSJ-12 Fighting Stick!! is, well, the base can develop some odd spots on it, so look into repainting.

I don't know what parts it uses but it seems quality to me. I don't think it's anything particularly special. Games are very playable with it - I messed around with Super Bonk and Pitfall, even Pac-Man 2 and Pirotwings, and it just feels like second nature. Can't quite get the Wild Guns groove down yet, but again the stick is no problem there.

The Virtua Stick uses knockoff Sanwa parts, as I recall. I doubt anything made in the 90's is actually going to have Sanwa/Seimitsu parts. Most of those sticks don't even use microswitches for the buttons; they'll have a rubber plunger that contacts a point on a PCB, effectively making them oversized controller buttons.

If you really want Seimitsu parts, I'd recommend using a more modern base (HRAP, TE, etc.) and installing an MC Cthulhu for compatibility with 16/32 bit consoles. That way you have a stick that has a nice size and weight to it instead of a flimsy plastic noodle from the 90's.

Not to hijack the thread, but is there any practical reason people get individual sticks for each console rather than just mod / buy a modded multi-console stick?

There is no practical reason, though I can imagine some people like the authenticity that comes with playing on era-correct sticks.

The only 90's sticks I've tried that have been even remotely worth a damn are the PS1 Namco stick, the Virtua Stick and the Agetec Dreamcast stick. Even then, they all had their stock parts replaced and had a few mods done to the case itself. They're still way too small for my liking, though if you're looking for a smaller stick that you can easily fit in a messenger bag they're not the worst choice.

I use an Elecom-rebranded Mayflash as my travel stick, and even with a JLF and Crown buttons it's too much of a compromise for any serious use. I can somewhat play KOFXIII and various shooters in MAME with it, but when I switch to a real stick like my HRAP2 or RAP-VX I play significantly better.

Maybe it's one of those things where you get spoiled and can't go back. In any case, I can't recommend anyone buy a bunch of old, tiny ass sticks when a modern stick with an MCC will serve you so much better at a similar/lower price. You can even get a universal mounting plate and experiment with the different Seimitsu sticks, including ones that are too tall to fit in smaller cases.

Clearly states Seimitsu part numbers (LS-56-01 & PS-15s), you can even see a bit of it on the stick's pcb.

That's a sexy stick by the way, love the design, too bad it's so rare.

Another option is to get Tototek adapters and use the Hyperstick with your other consoles as well.
