I prefer to just raise the A/D level instead of brightness (e.g. 128 -> 142). Raising the brightness setting above the default value of 25 has never looked good on my setup as it elevates the black level and washes out the picture.marqs wrote:These problems have been discussed several times in this thread. Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Hoping someone can help me with a quick question.
Looking to hook a pal wii console to the mini via the d-terminal port for the 480p supported content. Can I use the below cable to go straight from the wii to the mini?
http://m.play-asia.com/wii-d-terminal-a ... -1mwh.html
Or do I need to use component cables into the d-tetminal adaptor for sale on the solaris site?
http://solarisjapan.com/collections/mic ... ble-female
Thanks!

Both are fine.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Just got my power supply after work. Fecked off to Maplin and bought one since the one I ordered has STILL not arrived. I'll just return that one.
Plugged it in with my Mega Drive and EUROSCART adapter. Thought it looked terrible and was getting some disappointment until I looked up the wiki to change the language, output mode and add scanlines.
God damn does it look good! Absolutely gorgeous in 720p with scanlines (I'm also blowing it up fullscreen and it's amazing). Such a good product!
Some screen grabs. Sonic is 1080p (forgot to disable scanlines for it) and Rocket Knight is 720p.

Not the best the Mini can do, aspect ratio looks all wrong in those pictures. Some screen grabs. Sonic is 1080p (forgot to disable scanlines for it) and Rocket Knight is 720p.
Anyway, so Artemio's 240p suite is now out on PC Engine. Now, I wondered if this was the case as the borders always looked too big, but the picture from my PC Engine (Supergrafx) is being squashed horizontally, at least according to the linearity test. Both the XRGB Mini and my XRGB3+DVDO Edge combo do this (though it's easy to fix on the DVDO with it's excellent zoom/pan controls).
but, why is this happening and does anyone else see it?

Yeah I had them in the LB? mode. The one that blows them up along with force widescreen. I didn't realize it would blow up in Elgato too (not sure why I didn't think that).BuckoA51 wrote:Not the best the Mini can do, aspect ratio looks all wrong in those pictures. Some screen grabs. Been fiddling around with the setting over the last hour. There is so much to go over! Loving it so far

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Until release I only used PVMs to test and code this version of the suite, it was just this friday I tried out the XRGB-Mini, and also noticed it. I don't remember it happening in all horizontal resolutions, particularly not in 320x224/240.BuckoA51 wrote: Now, I wondered if this was the case as the borders always looked too big, but the picture from my PC Engine (Supergrafx) is being squashed horizontally, at least according to the linearity test.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Hi guys, question here.Have my PC Engine Duo hooked up to my Framemeister, getting a great image and have tweaked settings basically to the most recommended settings on the wiki and some users here. I notice however that while the overall picture in 720p output is sharper and scanlines are heavier, overall animation and rapid movement looks much smoother in 480p output.
For a game specific exampled in Gunhed you can for example have a powerup with orbs rotating around your ship, in 480p these clearly rotate around your ship. While in 720p you can see these orbs appearing here and there around your ship but the smooth circular animation is not there as in 480p output.
Now is this: just me, normal, my settings or perhaps my TV? (Samsung series 8 ) Now it's not that 720p is choppy, I wouldn't even know it was an issue if I didn't compare it directly to 480p, but just find it strange this didn't seem pointed out by users before, unless I'm mistaken. Thanks for helping out.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
I can enable scanlines in 480p and 1080p output for all my 240p consoles, but I just can't get scanlines showing for 720p output. I've tried turning v_line off and on and changing the intensity of the scanlines with no result. Even if I put it on meister mode, no scanlines show when outputting at 720p. It's as if V_line is set to off no matter what I try. Has anyone encountered this issue? I'm hoping I'm just missing something in plain sight.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
What display do you use? Maybe it blurs 720p to the point where the scanlines disappear? Haven't heard of any display that does this, but I don't know what else could cause it.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
I'm having a sync issue with my SNES, (modded NTSC SNES jr. > Scart w/composite video sync > sync stripper cables from retro_console_accessories) here's a youtube example The problem seems to only happen at certain points in the game. Any help I've messed around with the settings a bit but it doesn't seem to change anything.
Another general question, does anyone have some basic info on what most of the settings do? The xrgb-mini wiki thing is great but it only explains a few of the settings

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
I've had this issue. Try setting the sync level on the xrgb mini lower (zero if you have to). If that doesn't work, the Sync level is too strong for the XRGB mini and you'll get those 'blips' and artifacts across the screen. You need to put a voltage divider on the sync line. Cutting the signal to 80% of it's potential worked for me on my genesis and SNES.
Put a 75 Ohm in series with the sync line and a 300 Ohm resistor to ground on the sync line on the LM1881's output.

It's a 42" NEC presentation monitor. I don't remember the exact model# off hand, I'll have to check when I get home. I'll have access to a different HDMI display tonight so I'll test out the 720p scanline outcome on that and report back.blizzz wrote:What display do you use? Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
I should have mentioned I'm using a powered sync strippers idk if that makes a difference. The sync lvl was already at 0 and I would do that fix, but I don't want to cause problems for my other consoles that work fine with it.Pasky wrote:I've had this issue. Would taking out the sync stripper fix the issue or just cause more problems? I'm thinking about rewiring the JP21 adapter that came with the xrgb and just use that, but I read a lot of conflicting info about what will work.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Is there any way to save profiles on this?
I love it, but it gets really tiresome changing a whole bunch of settings manually every time I switch to a different console.
It would be perfect if you could just save a bunch of settings and switch to them whenever you needed to.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
This is something that caught my interest through a tweet from the HD Retrovision guys. They asked for a screenshot of an SMPTE test screen on the Framemeister and got this back from MyLifeInGaming: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/345 ... 224353.png
This is from their own test program running on a Genesis. Notice the dark line between green and magenta. You get this color if you add magenta with 80% opacity to green.
Here's a screenshot I took from my SNES > Framemeister with Artemio's 240p test suite: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/345 ... er_422.png
There's a bit of a darker line between green and magenta. This is what I expect from imperfect sampling or bicubic upscaling. Here's a photo of a PC monitor to rule out the chroma subsampling in the capture process: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/345 ... 0_720p.jpg
So why is the line so much darker on the Genesis pic? I don't have a Genesis to test. Can someone test it on their own Genesis with Artemio's 240p test suite and the Framemeister?
What's also confusing me is how it looks on my Sony LCD TV if I connect it directly without the Framemeister. It shows a solid blue line. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/345 ... rt_100.jpg
Looks like the red part of magenta is shifted a bit to the right. Or is this caused by something else?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
hey guys, wondering if you can offer any suggestions..
I have an XRGB-Mini and a Japanese Saturn as well as a Japanese Dreamcast.
The Japanese Saturn is connected via a EURO RGB SCART to EURO-SCART mini-din adapter in the front of the XRGB-Mini.
The Dreamcast is connected via TORO to the EURO-SCART mini-din adapter in the front of the XRGB-Mini.
I also use a SFC with a Gamecube EU SCART lead into the mini-din adapter in the front of the XRGB-Mini.
The Saturn and Dreamcast both only output audio via the left speaker.
The SFC is fine.
I've tried different leads for the Saturn to fix the problem including JP-21 SCART as well as a different EU RGB SCART.
The Saturn itself gets stereo sound if I use the phonos attached to the EU RGB SCART into the Framemeister via the phono sockets on the back.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem is?
This is driving me nuts.

Unfortunately no. Many people have requested the option to save profiles using the colored buttons on the remote rather than use the Zoom functions which hardly any one uses. I don't see why this hasn't been done yet. I'm sure the mini is fully capable of doing this.chromium wrote:Is there any way to save profiles on this?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Sorry for the late update, but I complained earlier but about a pink tinge to the picture coming out of the Framemeister. It was definitely the result of faulty cables. I bought new ones from an eBay seller, and now everything seems to work smoothly. Now, I just need to calibrate the set so that things look less dreary and dark.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
That "background interference" that the mini has is totally BS
I started noticing it and now I always see it in solid black backgrounds... I can't believe they didn't notice that on Micomsoft, this must be a hardware error or something.
Totally BS along with the lack of setting profiles and the awful waiting time between resolution changes.
Everything else is great on the unit but for such a pricey toy to play one would expect more

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
that's a problem of the LPF (low pass filter) they use on the A/D stage. For some reason this has always been a Micomsoft problem - really as long as I can remember. Other video processors show that it's possible to get it right without mangling any details.I can't believe they didn't notice that on Micomsoft, this must be a hardware error or something.

^ really? they had this in the previous x-rgb models?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Hi guys,
I'm having problems getting a picture from my RGB modded N64 (japanese NUS-001 model). The N64 is connected to the XRGB mini with a RGB cable with color booster/amp (from German retailer "Wolfsoft"). I did get a picture once (after waiting for 10-20 seconds but the screen quickly disappeared after I changed the output resolution to 720p (it was set to 480 previously). I have sound btw.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the reason for this?
Thanks,
Carsten

adjust the sync level to a higher value (on the mini). the best option would be to tap c-sync directly from the multi av out.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
I've got something rather strange going on.
Basically I've been using my Mini with my Supergun lately, no trouble at all.
Recently I acquired The Punisher PCB, worked as everything else did without a hitch. I've been away a few days, came back and now The Punisher won't come up correctly, my choices are blue screen (Saying no input) and sound, or black screen and no sound.
I've attempted to increase the synch, but whilst its on the screen I cannot actually get to the menu. So I have to turn off the mini, turn the supergun on, change the synch level then it goes to black screen again.
Tried a few other PCB's, they work fine. I actually don't get whats happened ...
I've tried the board on the TV without the Mini and the board works too.
Thanks!!
