Plus an unlockable "Extreme" difficulty after that (presumably what Ghegs was alluding to when he talked about playing through the game three times).Ghegs wrote:And in direct response to CMoon, there will be two modes of play, Casual and Normal, the latter being the type of difficulty you can expect from Platinum.

Re: Platinum Games creating Legend of Korra
I'm not too excited about the minigames, but the game setup sounds pretty interesting. As Ghegs sorta mentioned, the 2nd playthrough you need to use the economy system to get high level items so that you can play through the third playthrough with everything... making it a completely different game by the end. gameplay looks very sound like the majority of the pg backlog.iconoclast wrote:There's some gameplay footage and new info from this IGN stream (move the slider to 26:32:xx): http://www.ign.com/videos/2014/07/24/ig ... c-con-2014

Scoring & rankings after every battle
I think I heard the Activision guy say that it was going to be $15, but I may have imagined that
I thought the game looked okay. Very simplistic in comparison to all of their other games, but that was expected. I'm just glad it has rankings; going for Pure Platinums is enough to sell me on the game.
$15 and on PS3/360? I'm in.
Bayonetta is probably my favorite platinum title but Vanquish is a pretty crazy tps which is primarily designed for score as well.CMoon wrote: Ohhhh, me too! Been playing a bit of Bayonetta lately (their best game I presume) and need to pick up metal gear rising at some point which I understand is pretty much designed to be played for score and nothing else.
I'd throw the wonderful 101, anarchy reigns, and mg:r on another tier.

Re: Platinum Games creating Legend of Korra
The scoring system is fun but there's a major problem if you start taking it seriously at all: 95% of all weapon drops and all upgrade drops are completely random, and you need the correct weapons for different waves if you want high scores and time bonuses. If you want to get a high leaderboard placement that means restarting checkpoints a hundred times..Some-Mist wrote:Vanquish is a pretty crazy tps which is primarily designed for score as well.
At least it's possible to play through the game avoiding any random weapons, but then you can't even use grenades.
Re: Platinum Games creating Legend of Korra
hmmm, never really realized that as I mostly played for fun/the gameplay and not so much scoring. I just knew the intention was sort of in line with an arcade shooter in terms of scoring. still an outrageously fantastic game even with the randomized weaponsZaarock wrote:The scoring system is fun but there's a major problem if you start taking it seriously at all: 95% of all weapon drops and all upgrade drops are completely random, and you need the correct weapons for different waves if you want high scores and time bonuses. I've always thought that Avatar deserved a great combat focused 3D action game. If anyone can do it Platinum Games can. I love all their big titles so far. That includes Okami and Viewtiful Joe.

Re: Platinum Games creating Legend of Korra
Just finished a platinum run on Extreme mode (this game doesn't have pure platinums). I'm uploading the videos of each chapter if anyone wants to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... ef2VdlJLtq
Overall, I enjoyed the game. It's about what you'd expect out of a low budget $15 Platinum action game: simple musou-esque combos, low enemy variety, only a couple of bosses, very short story, etc. The ranking system is also pretty half-assed. It doesn't grade you on both combo and time like Bayonetta does, so it's impossible to tell if you're taking too long to finish a fight or if your score isn't high enough. The solution to that is to just use air-bending and mash Y, since it does a ton of damage to everything around you and racks up more points than just about anything else.
But again, I liked the game well enough for what it is. It's probably the best cheap downloadable 3D action game out there, although I'm not sure if it has any competition besides Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae (and Korra is better).

Re: Platinum Games creating Legend of Korra
reviews have been pretty low, but I'm still interested in snagging it (along with bayo 2) on pay day this month...
but have you played el shaddai iconoclast? I get the feeling that the rock-paper-scissors combat is very similar.

Re: Platinum Games creating Legend of Korra
I played through El Shaddai once when it came out, but I don't remember it very well.
I wouldn't say Korra is rock/paper/scissors. Each element is more suited for certain situations, but you can use just about anything at any time and make it work. I'm not sure what I could compare the combat to, though. Maybe a musou game, but it's not quite as mindless.

I noticed this. Even Destructoid's review, which is one of the few more or less positive ones, says it's "not too frustrating, but also not too exciting." Yippee?Some-Mist wrote:reviews have been pretty low
I checked out some posts on reddit, which were all positive (that I could see). It sounds like one doesn't have too many choices for this kind of game these days, so despite the lack of content (relatively few areas and enemy types) it may well still be the right thing to play.

I watched one of your gameplay vids and it looked pretty fun, even though I can see how it would get repetitive. I like that it doesn't really compare to other games in the same genre.
still gonna be snagging it next paycheck.
I know iconoclast just mentioned that it's not like el shaddai, but that game also had little-to-no-variety and I absolutely loved my play through. not too thrown off and putting no weight on the reviews.Ed Oscuro wrote:I noticed this. El Shaddai no variety?
I guess in terms of enemy variety, but the platforming, different character midway through, cycling stage, etc. made it feel like a fairly fleshed out experience.
Not a perfect game either but I enjoyed it a lot.

Re: Platinum Games creating Legend of Korra
This is, hands down, Platinum's worst game. It's playable and all, but it's like the bare minimum of what they do.
And yeah, you fight the same guys over and over and over...and there's no set pieces or anything to break up the monotony. Well, unless you want to count where you're riding on that bear thing.
I hope this doesn't hurt their rep any. It's obvious it was just "for the money", and they didn't have much of that, or much time to make it.

I'm reserving my opinion until I finish the thing, but I think people are being overly harsh in regards to this game. The folks I know who really enjoy action titles like this and are always posting super-plays are saying to ignore the reviews and give the game a chance. What WILL hurt platinum's reputation is apparently not bribing IGN/Gamespot sufficiently to keep from getting God Hand reviews.

yep - meant in terms of enemy variety since that seems to be a complaint about korra.Squire Grooktook wrote:El Shaddai no variety?

probably won't... seeing as bayonetta 2 has been getting an insane amount of 10/10s, making it potentially the first huge AAAAE of this gen.evil_ash_xero wrote:I hope this doesn't hurt their rep any. Never watched any avatar .
But I am a huge platinum games fan . Like treasure any game they make has something nice and unique in it which makes it worth playing.
How much is this retailing at ?
I'll grab it when it's on sale I'm sure other people will do the same.
Madworld was ok it really needed a power up system . Good story cool music and some cool boss fights .
But yeah it was lacking .
They built on it a little bit more with anarchy reigns ,

Re: Platinum Games creating Legend of Korra
Well, it's certainly not a 3, as Gamespot rated it. That's just bonkers.CMoon wrote:I'm reserving my opinion until I finish the thing, but I think people are being overly harsh in regards to this game. It's about a 5, for me. A 3 is bottom of the barrel. There are good things about this game. It controls well, and has good combat. But there are such better alternatives from
Platinum.
I disagree pretty heavily on that one. It controlled weird, for obvious reasons. And I've always hated that "get so many points, before boss shows up". But it had a lot of personality. LoK is just....it's just so bland.iconoclast wrote:Nah, it's more fun than MadWorld at least. That game was shit.evil_ash_xero wrote:This is, hands down, Platinum's worst game.
