The Mini always inserts audio into its HDMI signal and your receiver probably puts audio in HDMI at a higher priority than audio over optical. Some receivers have options to select which input type should have the highest priority.
Yep, that's what it was. It was hidden on the remote control settings and not the main menu. Thanks Sony for making things harder than they should be.

I am having a smidge of an issue, maybe someone here knows a trick. Genesis>XRGBMINI>Sharp LCD. There's interference. The cables are new, the AC adapters have been swapped out, the hdmi cables have been swapped out. I've played with settings on the mini (no luck). Any ideas?

Try a clean sync cable and/or reduce brightness.

Hey is anybody of you guys experienced with calibrating the black level on the xrgb mini? I know how to properly calibrate a display but since the framemeister seems to have several settings with similar effects I wonder which one(s) to use and which not. So to me, for example, apparently the BRIGHTNESS, BLACK and A/D settings do something similar. Should I also consider using the R/G/B settings for each colour on RGB-scart like on a TV or rather not? Thanks!

keropi, did you have Visual_Set > Sync_Mode set to OFF or Auto when you tested PS2 yesterday?
If you were on Auto I still need to research some more ^^;
Please let me know.

I have this cable. The issue seems intermittent, but I've tried several genesis systems, several ac adapters, 2 types of cables, 32x units- all do this (sometimes). Do you think the c-sync mod will solve the issue?

Thanks a ton!

TBH there is no clear answer. Stuff and mods that work for some people don't work for others... is the cable using a sync striper or a sync amp?
Mod a system with the instructions from mmmonkey's site and give it a go, but use a cable that does not have any kind of striper/amp inside

The noise will probably still be there even if you use csync. I've learned the mini has picture noise no matter what you do and some systems are worse than others. Maybe it's just the pic but your tv looks like the brightness is way too high, if you turn down the brightness it will look much better.

I was having a similar issues with my megadrive, rgb cable + syncstrike or xsync, like a deformation of the picture...can't get the hand to it, making me crazy, someday couldn't boot up even a game and with the everdrive it make a weawing interface, and the thing that it was not always doing it...searching all around my setup...
Do you have a power inverter next to your setup?
The problem was there...the inverter working like a charm, but when it cames to cool down, his fan run at a higher states and made some kind of an electric interference - like a parasite -
So I had to switch it over from my room, and tada...the megadrive rocks again...
Check if you got a thing that make - in some way - some parasite...
Good luck

USA guys, power supply questions.

Do you use the stock power adapter? Do you leave your mini plugged in all the time or unplug it whenever not in use?

I use the stock adapter and I do leave it plugged in at all times. In fact, I actually have it on and running at all times too. It's never gotten too warm or anything if that's what you're concerned about.

I take it the Dreamcast can be hooked up to the XRGB Mini via the RGB scart cable?. I have just tried my DC with scart cable but im not getting a display, is there a setting i need to alter?

This is not really the answer you're looking for but why wouldn't you want to go vga?

In the future yeah, if just ordered a Kuro VGA box but for the time being ill be using RGB scart.....or thought i would be but the cant get a display on the xrgb mini with the scart atm

Regarding a VGA box and the xrgb mini whats the ideal method on hooking a vga box up to the XRGB mini, can you buy VGA to the mini din socket of the xrgb mini, or preferably VGA to scart?

I *never* got an image from 2 DCs that I tried with a scart cable.
Somehow the dreamcast sync or something is not compatible , I had to hack my vga box and get a sync signal by combining H+V syncs (that dc outputs on the av port). Only with the combined sync I got great results, in both 15 and 31khz modes.

I thought the Kuro already had a specific XRGB Mini output?

Anyway, just add a cheap Extron Interface to any VGA box to connect it to the Mini, works great.

Really? Mine never feels warmer than room temp. Do you have it resting on top or underneath of another device? Mine is sitting by itself.

If it is heating up then yea I wouldn't keep it running longer than necessary.

No I'm getting muddled, Kuro is an old model isn't it? I thought they were making one that did though.

Now i see why we were not in agreement. I was talking about the power supply and you were talking about the mini itself.

Oh ok, sorry. Well in that case... still not hot lol. In fact it feels cooler than the unit itself, which is just ever so slightly warm. It's really not drawing a lot of current so I wouldn't expect it to get hot. And again I am using the stock power supply that came with it, DC 5V 2.3A.

My power adapter gets a bit warm in use on a 2:1 step-down converter in Europe. I'd say it's the same temperature as a 3DS charger, so I'm not really worried.

keropi, my theory now is that the signal is disrupted at the exact time HDDOSD 2.0 is being loaded, which happens to be between the SCE intro screen and Browser/SysConf screen..
Could you tell me if you have a HDD attached to your PS2 and if you are using the updated Browser 2.0?

^ I have a HDD installed along with a DMS4SE PRO chip and use ToxicOS... HDD is formatted for use with ToxicOS.
When I make my test I keep pressing X on the pad to boot into "stock" mode , OSD is read from the BIOS and HDD is inactive.
If you have a OSD update that gets loaded it makes sense that you are getting a video switch , since the new program starts...
