Snagged a new DVR unit (a Toshiba DVR620KU). The old Memorex unit had started acting funny (weird encoding errors and not being able to properly display some stuff) so I figured it was worth getting a brand new system. Plus, this is a DVR/VCR combo... so no need for a dedicated VCR anymore (not that we have many videotapes left).

Also, XCOM Enemy Within on PS3.. fantastic expansion to an awesome restructuring of a classic game that happens to be a crappy port... seriously, the PS3 rev runs horribly.. lengthy load times, plenty of frame hiccups, audio issues... an no option to install to harddrive (none that I could find, at any rate). I should have stuck with 360 (I have EU on 360 and it runs beautifully) but I wanted to pad my tiny PS3 library some.

That DVD combo is nice . Do VHS tapes go through component ? Or scart ?
I miss watching old martial arts films on tape and manga expensive to get them on DVD .
:(

It'll output video from either the DVD or VCR over composite, S-Video, component or HDMI. The internal upscaler is pretty good and can force progressive scan at 480 or 720 vertical res or you can run at 480i (it is an NTSC unit).

I'm mainly using it to record gameplay from SD consoles.

I got both the DVD and book of The Untold History of Japanese Developers.

It does have it's flaws, etc. but the coverage is so expansive that for every thing that should have been edited out, I find two or three things that aren't normally covered in interviews and footage that I'm supremely grateful for.

I was going to buy an Xbone for the Halo collection in November, but this week's deals made me jump in early. Hopefully Destiny's fun.

Right on. It was the first time I've seen them live, and hopefully, it won't be the last.

ordered an $8 RTL-SDR (RTL2832U) with the intention of receiving and decoding satellite and aircraft transmissions.
have any of you used one of these devices for this purpose? I know these devices are somewhat common in Europe.

Is it shameful that I've been staying up way to late on work nights playing Gauntlet's quest mode? Wasn't planned but funny how I got that right after finishing Diablo.

Actually that Road Blaster and Rolling Thunder 3 I've had for sometime. Just reusing the picture b/c I'm lazy.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Gauntlet MD's original mode is addictive as hell. The lateral thinking required to make it through each tower adds a slight action/puzzler effect, I find. Incredible Sakimoto+Iwata soundtrack too.

Hi everyone, I've been lurking since I was a kid, just bought this bad boy, can't wait to test it out.
It was this versus avermedia lgp, or bmip, I said meh, by the time I start using this to its fullest potential, there will probably be cards for a decent price that can do 1080p 60fps, this was just the right price point, and decent enough to do what I wanted it to, 240p to 720p 60fps.

Though I've been reading that some have been able to get it to 70hz (70fps) at 1080p but with color bleed, and jittery image, making it not worth it. I also read that some people need help to code for it, I guess this card has more potential than what was made out for it in the beginning.

I'm thinking of hooking this up to my hackintosh intel core2 quad q8200 with a GeForce 9500 GS 512mb OEM, or should I just crack out my 1gb XFX ati 4890?

Also, thanks for the heads-up for the Amazon exclusive blu-rays of Cowboy Bebop.

I can't say much but I received pre-release DVD and had to cover it. The article has been held back for 5 weeks due to a VIP journalist having to produce an article that can't conflict in the publishing schedules. It's... Complicated.

However my general feelings about the DVD production sound mostly mirrored in your comments.
If you're interested in hearing about the Untold History of Videogames DVD, the article finally went up:

Nothing too awesome, but I picked up a new PS3 (12GB SS) for $131 at Sams Club. Nabbed $80 worth of PSN cards at Target on the way home for $70. That's a pretty good score for around $200 IMO.

Contains copies of hundreds of pages from the late 80s-early 90s gaming magazine Beep. In Japanese obviously so a bit worthless for information, but the magazine came with flexidiscs with VGM on them, and the majority of those tracks are included on two CDs that come with the book. I had most of the flexis, but I wanted a better quality and more convenient way to listen.

Unfortunately, the CDs seem to be recordings off the flexis themselves instead of being from a clean master, so there's some hissing and pops throughout. Much better than my own rips, though. They're also an incomplete collection, but I think they contain the things I was most interested in so I'm not terribly upset.

However, the book also has a lot of the art that was in Beep, including this thing that I enjoy even though I don't really know the context it's used in:

Got a DVDO edge for $1...the power supply was faulty but I manage to get a replacement. The rubber texture is pretty bad as well and took a whole morning to clean up.
