Have a merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Post by Ord »

Right folks, i'm going off to the wilds of north Scotland to spend Christmas & New Year with the family. They don't have a computer, so this will be the last I hear from you folks till 2006.
For those who celebrate Christmas and to those who don't give a damn, I hope you have a nice one.
Oh and in retrospect 2005 has been an incredible year for shooters eh?
Ta ta! :P

One Christmas Eve in the early 90s, I was doing some last minute shopping around Sheffield and I found that they had the R-Type II coin op in Just Micro. (The computer store beneath what used to be the Gremlin Graphics offices.)
Anyway, I was about 12 at the time and I thought that this was the most amazing game I had ever seen in my life. Unfortunately I couldn't stay in town all day and had to go home so I bought some glow-in-the-dark Fimo from Beaties (hobby store which no longer exists) and made models of all the R-Type characters while I watched the New Adventures of He-Man.

-And I have made sure to play R-Type II on every Christmas Eve since then. :D

In 1980 I was a boy roughly 10 years of age. On Christmas morning I held a package on my lap that was nearly half the length of me - rectangular and impressive in size even wrapped so secretly. I was pretty sure I knew what it was but never expected the impact to be so far reaching. When I removed the wrap I held aloft my Atari 2600 Video Computer System and was nearly giddy with joy. In my mom's old photo album, I found a picture of me with the box (still wrapped) on my lap. That photo captures the last moment before video games became an integral part of my life. It's amazing to think of how things have changed since then... and how much they remain the same.

Happy Holidays!

Indeed!

I still remember Christmas 1981 when I was 4 and my brother was 7, and we got an Atari 2600 for Christmas. My dad couldn't figure out how to get it hooked up to our TV, so he had a friend of ours hook it up-my brother and I didn't get to play it that night, because my dad and this friend couldn't stop playing Combat!

At any rate, I really appreciate the fact that so many people on here care about the problems I've had with impulsivity-even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear, please know that I appreciate it!

This year was a great one overall-I had two jobs, and learned, for the first time in my life, how to manage my anxiety, so that it won't keep my from doing things like driving.

I have a ways to go, but God will never give up on me...and that really is what Christmas is all about! :D

I was six when I was given my first console, an A2600 and a small pile of games. Even with stuff like Combat, Pac-Man, ET and others, I always ended up playing Stargate. Memories...

You do realise you'll be eating that thing until the New Year. Turkey sarnies, turkey pie, turkey curry, turkey pasties, turkey casserole, turkey kebabs, turkey quiche... ^_-

Bah, that's nothin': people in the U.S. are probably still finishing their turkey leftovers from Thanksgiving, and they're about to get another one for Christmas, heh heh.

I gotta work for Chrsitmas as usual, not a terribly long day, but annoying nonetheless.

I saved half dollars and dollar coins my dad would get for me in a huge sock, I eventually spent that loot on an Atari 2600 with Laser Blaster (or Laser Blast), funny little shooter it was. I wound up going through 2 Atari 2600's and I'd play the one my grandmother would keep at her house for me, she gave me a kickass Video Pinball for the 2600, and a brother of mine and I would flip the score multiple times, usually giving up in boredom.

I just got off work.

Can still remember Christmas of 1986: That's when I got four, count them, FOUR ROTJ figures (Expensive as hell in Mexico. Three weeks worth of lunch money each, if that serves any comparison). Bib Fortuna, The Rancor Keeper, and two others I can't remember right now. My brother got a replacement C3PO and two ewoks.

Nothing could go wrong back then. I didn't get a game system until 1991, when I got a SMS, and then I became the Sega fanboy I am now. Well, not much anymore, but Nintendo could keep their stupid plumber and kiddy games. I was saving the world from nuclear holocaust in Missile Defense and raking in the dough in Fantasy Zone.

Merry Christmas, y'all. And may the schwarz be with you.

Wow, I don’t think we've ever made all those cool stuff out of turkey before (what's "sarnies", "casserole" & "quiche" by the way? ;) )
I was going to make turkey salads & sandwiches to take to work for the next week until New Year’s

Actually my grandma also bought a 2nd turkey without me knowing, so she will also cook that on New Year’s! She also got a lot of beer.
She really likes beer! ;)

Happy holidays!

I really only remember two Christmas gifts as a kid with any clarity:
1. An electronic chess set that was pretty damn good. (I doubt they make these anymore, since you can play against computers now. Hardly anyone had personal computers back then.)
2. An Atarti 2600.

Life would never be the same.

well i dont know if your'e being sarcastic but "sarnies" in uk is another term for sandwiches, "casserole" is what americans might call stew, and "quiche" is like a pie made out of egg and onion i think it sounds nasty i know but it is quite nice :D

best way ive heard quiche described to someone who doesnt know what it is is 'gay mans pizza'...but hey i like quiche maybe there is a closet somewhere around....lol jk no offence meant to anyone.

my most recent christmas comp memories is of me being totally in awe of the playstation, i sat all day just playing that single track in ridge racer. another memory is of my amiga 500+ sitting playing suffle puck cafe for hours. Interestingly today i bore witness to my 5 year old nephew's first christmas video game experience, sadly it was with Hot wheels for the ps2 but he was glued all day even tho there was more pressies there for him and so another convert is brought into the fold.....

Merry Christmas and God Bless

I'm Jewish and for Hanukkah I got this:

Over $200 in cash and a used working Sega CD Model 2. ;)

I can remember Hanukkah 1993 when one of my mothers friends gave me a brand new Sega Genesis Model 2 with the 6-Pack cartridge, those were the days. 8)

This was an awesome Christmas holiday indeed!
Best I've had since 1995.
.... And 1000 posts! Right on time for New Year's! ;) 8)

I was playing Quake 4 frying the Strogg Bastids, from 22:00 24th Dec up to 2:00 25th Dec!

I woke up at 10:00 25th Dec and went at my mom’s house where my grandma cooked this huge bad-ass, stuffed turkey! I managed to eat 1/4 of the bastid & half of the fillings
The champagne and my Grandma's beers were also great (I drink very rarely and only on occasions)

I then spent the entire evening playing Raiden Project, Project X-2, RayStorm & Thunder Force V (J) on the PS-1 that was left at my Mom's house.

On the 26th Dec, I visited a mate & we spent the entire day playing Shooters on his Saturn!

We completed:

1945 Strikers II (2 times, 1 loop each)
Batsugun
Do Don Pachi (I finally got to see the huge Horner Boss & the that weird sphere with the impregnable shield)
Radiant Silvergun
Sexy Parodius
Shienryu
Twin Cobra II

Happy Holidays to all, what ever you’re doing!

Which character is she?

Christmas at our house was somewhat interesting this year, since neither me nor any of my siblings live there anymore (my parents went from having three children at home to being empty nesters within about three months.) An unfortunate accident claimed the life of our dog a couple of weeks ago, but as a result we ended up with three nine week old beagle puppies and one seriously stressed out adult beagle running around the house on Christmas day (two of which belong to my Mom, and one puppy and the adult belong to my sister and brother in law.) Cute little things, but they're already turning into little troublemakers. They're fun to have around, but I sure am glad I don't have to take any of them home with me.

I pretty much got what I asked for, which was small appliances. Basically, stuff I'd like to have but would be unlikely to buy for myself. I decided I really don't need toys this year, as I have too many of those already.
We want you, save our planet!
