Nobody here seemed to have problems with malware, so I decided to take a look; the backgrounds flicker like crazy, some characters have flickering squares around them on certain stages, and there doesn't seem to be a way to change game settings or save high scores. It is playable though. If I actually end up liking this game I'm definitely buying the games on demand version for stable graphics, bonus modes, leaderboards, etc. So far it plays like deathsmiles, and the scoring system is a bit similar, yet different enough that I don't understand it. I haven't really played enough to get an opinion on bullet patterns (nor do I really have the experience to make that kind of opinion). but the difficulty seems higher than the first game's. The 2D art is very good and the music is great, but the gameplay graphics look like something out of a Playstation 2 budget title, if not worse; the rudimentary graphics really detract from the overall presentation and makes the stages feel somewhat uninspired. The sound effects for some of the enemies seem a bit off as well.
That being said I don't see anything really wrong with the gameplay itself so far.

Running completely fine here. i7 with an amd 7870. No glitches or anything, slowdown is where I think it should be. I agree with everyone that the models are low poly and just ugly. Gameplay seems fine but not as many stages as the first.
Does anyone know how to access the dip switches or game settings?

A lot of the graphics corruption is because you are not running on an ATI Radeon HD3200 card, look at the triangle on the first minotaur and the colours on the snake stage is completely wrong.cave hermit wrote:but the gameplay graphics look like something out of a Playstation 2 budget title, if not worse; the rudimentary graphics really detract from the overall presentation and makes the stages feel somewhat uninspired. Some minor flickering on an Intel HD4000 but performance is fine.
Off to test on the Egret 3 with an ATI 4350 shortly.

And it runs perfectly.
Too perfectly, there's no slowdown whatsoever except for the programmed in boss defeat explosions.

Re: Deathsmiles 2 emulated?
I have a Nvidia optimus laptop (it defaults to an intel integrated card, but switches over to the nvidia card when needed), but I can only run this with the intel card; using the nvidia control panel to force the game to run with the nvidia card prevents it from booting up altogether. The amount of flickering seems to vary, even with the same character at the same point of a stage: sometimes the flickering is limited to a few background decorations, other times the entire stage flickers and occasionally disappears completely, leaving a white gradient background for a few seconds. Apparently setting the cvgame executable to windows XP SP3 compatibility and then right clicking the launcher to run as admin keeps the graphical glitches from getting too bad, and when I tried it did (flickering was limited to background elements), but doing so forces me to use the keyboard since Joy2key doesn't function in compatibility mode applications (the launcher's config application doesn't work properly with my mayflash wii classic controller adapter; as soon as I click on a binding it gets assigned to my analog stick).
