Doesn't need to be emulated, just cracked. It's a PC game.

cool :D

I'm guessing it's a similar concept to the Taito X and it has been cracked then?

Yep...and the sad part about it is they could have easily put it on Steam to make some money

Isn't the 360 Live Arcade version still available? I don't remember that one being overly expensive. Although I snagged an import disc.

It's not on Live Arcade, but Games on Demand. The only untranslated import game ever released for the service.

On a related note, is there any video anywhere of the NESiCAxLive version of Akai Katana Shin? Or did it get canceled? Seemed to have dropped off the radar after the announcement.

The real question is who would want to play it though :?:

It's been available on Nesica for 2 years. There's a couple of videos on YT and Nico

Well, not everyone is living in America...and the disc is region locked. I still think Cave should learn from the successful release of Crimzon Clover and finally release their best stuff on Steam.

Interesting, but not risking the chance of getting malware. Also it's entirely reasonable for me to pay $30 for a games on demand copy; really wish the disc wasn't region locked though. Physical copies are forever, digital licenses are not.

DS2 is going to be glitchy as all get out unless you have an old Ati card with drivers from around when it came out and the input lag could very well drive you insane. Steam would be a lot better but I doubt Cave will take that route until after they have milked the XBone.

This game works really good on Radeon HD 6770.

Until your discs get killed by rot and eaten by fungi, and every existing 360 DVD drive has ceased to function. Cartridges are fair game too. Nothing is forever.

Oh cool. Still really disappointed cave never sold it on the pal marketplace (I understand it would be harder to though due added costs for classifications and stuff however).

I remember pissing off a few folks here back in the day because I said the videos of this game looked just damn awful, certainly the "3D" aspect was one the main critiques given to it by comments everywhere.

Aside from the graphical glitches in the video linked above though, I can't say I really mind it anymore. I hear there's been several revisions of this game, perhaps some of them made visual improvements?

Nah, the 3D is still rather shocking, it's almost PSX quality models + texturing in 2009. Beyond that I guess it's resaonable enough and the actual 2D art is much nicer than any of their other HW could put out.

The original runs on an AMD based motherboard with an Athlon 64 driving it, although IIRC they cheaped out and just used the onboard graphics on the motherboard, might be why they didn't push it too hard, because they couldn't.

It's been seen using both Gigabyte and Asus boards

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M3A78EM/

Only the 4th update version is dumped, the skeleton has been in MAME for a while (but emulating a full PC at reasonable speed is probably 30 years away in MAME) The game requires both the game media and the usb flash drive used to update it to be present to boot. Would be nice to see the other versions dumped (without any updates, and then each individual update) but I think the originals are rather uncommon compared to other Cave boards, probably in part because it's unreliable PC hardware.

Gah the player models look terrible during stages ... the poly count is too low and the animation is jerky. Even the way the enemies and items fly around the screen is too stiff. The sound and music are really good though, and the larger enemies and bosses look decent. And the 2D art looks very good.

The presentation style reminds me a bit of Shikigami no Shiro, which seems to do a better job of it. Maybe because it's a top-down vert instead of hori sidescroller?

It's definitely a mixed bag graphically the opening stage for example is kinda cool then you get to the vertical scrolling stage and all goes to hell.

I don't know how accurate the slowdown is but there IS slowdown at least.
The backgrounds are so buggy using nvidia hardware (due to the original hardware being ati), and some of the characters glitch out really badly too.

Not sure If I'm really a fan of the patterns though, especially the bosses. But I'm probably playing it wrong because I'm finding it a lot harder then the first game despite hearing that it was far easier.
