'Tokyo, 2014'

you can definitely tell it's made by same people as Cyber City Oedo 808.
Read that last line and immediately decided that I had to watch this.Raytrace wrote:started watching Midnight Eye Gokuu - first words on screen:

Also, about to rewatch Oedo because it's so damn good.
cool stuff - I've just realised that I have not seen Doomed Megalopolis - I shall check it outs.drauch wrote:Goku is bad ass. Finally just got the complete manga awhile back. It's Buichi Terasawa adapted by Kawajiri with his cool blue touch, violence, and a penchant for the weird, so you'll love it. Gah, I wish someone would re-release Wicked City already!
Japan got a remastered DVD not very long ago, and it looks terrific. With a bit of luck, someone like Discotek may pick it up for release.drauch wrote: Gah, I wish someone would re-release Wicked City already!
yeah you can deffo see thatPretas wrote:Doomed Megalopolis' antagonist was the direct inspiration for Street Fighter's Dictator.
Man I gotta start buying LaserDiscs - the art is so badass - that's Blazing Transfer Student ?DaneSaga wrote:Japan got a remastered DVD not very long ago, and it looks terrific. Coincidentally with all this Midnight Eye Gokuu talk, these came just last week:
along with something Raytrace might appreciate:
edit: oh I should mention they're laserdiscs, which I've started re-collecting recently.

yes I would advise against collecting laserdiscs if you value space. That said, I don't really have room for much of anything either, yet I can't seem to stop myself from buying more shit like some sorta fucking klepto.drauch wrote:Nice! Yeah, I've thought about snagging some cool laserdiscs and vinyl; they've always got such cool art. Then I remember I've got too much crap and not enough money. Well, a few can't hurt...
I thought that was rumour. Do you have a source for the confirmation?Pretas wrote:Doomed Megalopolis' antagonist was the direct inspiration for Street Fighter's Dictator.

Though laserdiscs these days can be absurdly inexpensive (at least Japanese discs are), going for a few measly bucks on average. Hell, I just grabbed the complete Sol Bianca OVA on LD for 10 cents not three days ago.
Bubblegum Crisis 8 disc set was my first ever laserdisc purchase some five years ago. Probably the reason I started collecting. Though video quality may have been bettered several times over now, the cover artwork is second to none, largely thanks to all that real estate on the sleeve they have to play with.Raytrace wrote:Man I stll gotta have em the second I have any money again - thinks like the 0080 LDs and of course Bubblegum Crisis are just beautiful.
Imma check the pic when I get home - yeah the covers are brilliant, same goes for vinyl OSTs - I have a Gatchaman OST album and the art is amazing.DaneSaga wrote:Bubblegum Crisis 8 disc set was my first ever laserdisc purchase some five years ago. My laserdisc player isn't even functional atm, but I still find myself buying laserdiscs, if just for the cover illustrations.
last picture of my laserdiscs. This time I swear![]()
YAJ is the best place for Japanese laserdiscs without question. I've scoured the web for alternatives, but to virtually no avail.MX7 wrote:Goku Midnight Eye was one of the very first animes I ever watched. Rewatched it a few months back and it was glorious. I adore that black/blue palette 80's OVAs are so fond of. I'll check out Tokyo Vice ASAP.
Probably going to regret asking this in the long run, but do you guys have any recommendations for buying LDs? Would prefer not to dick around with YAJ, but have a sudden yearning to own Bubblegum Crisis on LD.
I guess not. Just another Estebang special then.Skykid wrote:I thought that was rumour. Do you have a source for the confirmation?Pretas wrote:Doomed Megalopolis' antagonist was the direct inspiration for Street Fighter's Dictator.

Imma watch part 2 later
How's the shipping and the proxy price usually add up though when buying through YAJ?DaneSaga wrote:yes I would advise against collecting laserdiscs if you value space. Yeah it really is great - I fell asleep again so I'll finish 2 tonight :p.null1024 wrote:
That was so god damn cool. It hits on every damn note. The motorcycle chick, the pole, Gokuu's masterfully stoic attitude, the sheer sense of style. Badass.
Like, Raytrace sums up my thoughts perfectly:Raytrace wrote:I just finished part one - my god its brilliant - the polevault - the satellite hello bit hahaha - brilliant - everything about it - even the way it ends and then some proper classic ED music comes in - great stuff.

Well you have to pay fees to the proxy on every single item on both shipping and on the item itself, which certainly does add up. But if you're smart in how you go about it, you can minimize costs to a certain degree.drauch wrote:How's the shipping and the proxy price usually add up though when buying through YAJ?
I'd go get a check up if I were you. It's not normal to be nodding off all the time.Raytrace wrote:Yeah it really is great - I fell asleep again so I'll finish 2 tonight :p.
I think I'll make buckets of Goku Midnight Eye GIFs soon
you're probably right - especially during something as hot blooded amazing as GokuDaneSaga wrote:
