That was talked about before on gc-forever, and it went nowhere until a Swiss developer stepped in mentioning a Swiss patch.retrorgb wrote:Does anyone think it's possible to integrate native 240p support into the GBP iso? This way people with modded GC's could just boot with one disc.

Yes please.Artemio wrote:And also, for anyone using swiss on a non progressive PVM, I compiled a version that boots the swiss menu in 480i instead of 480p when a component cable is detected. This patch is very simple, and the problem was caused by a change in the SDK used by swiss. If anyone wants this build of swiss, let me know so I can make it available here. Of course it doesn't affect the rest of the functionality.
Ordered a SD Media Launcher from Codejunkies. They seem to be the only place left who really has them for sale. Gotta love that $11 ground shipping. I bet they're surprised by a rush on these.
We're doing really well lately between the Tim NES board and this.

Re: Gameboy Advance RGB NTSC
Just received the SD media launcher from Codejunkies. Shipping was quite fast.
No SD card included although the website (and the manual) said a 1GB card is supposed to be included. Well, well...
Anyway: the boot disc says "for use with european consoles". Does anybody know if the disc will work on NTSC cubes as well ? I think their Action Replay said the same thing, but it worked on NTSC systems just fine. I can't test it till next week.

Does the disc still load when inserted into the GameCube? If it does, you should be okay as it will just say insert memory card.Fudoh wrote:Just received the SD media launcher from Codejunkies. Shipping was quite fast.

Just to save you frustration, make sure you order a SD card and not a SDHC card or else it will not be able to read it. 2GB Max.

as said, can't test till next week. That is why I was asking about a possible region coding of the boot disc (which I doubt though).Does the disc still load when inserted into the GameCube?
I have a few older SD cards around, should be fine.

Oh, I thought you meant you couldn't test it till next week because you had to order and wait for a memory card because one wasn't included.

OK, diving into the depths of the internet, Datel seems to have succeeded in actually region locking the SD Media Launcher disc - f***ers..... Now getting a freeloader as well, so it will become a triple swap: Freeloader, Media Launcher, Cube Player Disc.

I also received mine. It came with a disc that says "Action Replay" a MicroSD USB reader and a hand-cut note that the Action Replay disc will act as the SD Media Launcher disc when the SD reader is plugged in. The MicroSD reader doesn't make much sense to me, the device doesn't even use MicroSD.Fudoh wrote:Just received the SD media launcher from Codejunkies. Shipping was quite fast.

Fudoh, did you buy the 2GB version for double the price? There is no version with bundled 1GB card.
First of all, I've never seen GBA games look that good. Really excellent picture quality in 240p. But my problem is that I can't boot the GB Player software from SD card. I've dumped the PAL disc on my Wii (CRC 5ECD9681) and trimmed it with "Gamecube ISO Tool" (CRC 6C38AEBA). When I try to launch it it says "Failed to find necessary functions for patching" and I only get a black screen. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

From what I've read no one has been able to bypass the need for the GBP disc. I'd like the same.

From the Framemeister thread:
I've got both PAL and NTSC-J discs, so it's not a huge problem. But I would prefer a solution that doesn't require disc swapping.
Maybe that is just for people with WiiKey Fusion?keropi wrote:well you get to boot a GBP iso from SWISS that auto-loads with each GC statup and it forces 240p... so if this what you want to do then it's just great
keep in mind that currently SWISS does no save the video settings to wkf , it's getting fixed

maybe I got their last "real" one. Does the AR disc you got look like the standard cheap AR that's available everywhere ? The one that has no more "enter your own code" support ? Might be a better solution for me than dealing with two boot discs.I also received mine. It came with a disc that says "Action Replay" a MicroSD USB reader and a hand-cut note that the Action Replay disc will act as the SD Media Launcher disc when the SD reader is plugged in.

This is what I got: pic (Edit: The SD card wasn't part of it.)
If you want I can check if it boots on an NTSC machine later.
Edit2: I removed two stickers on the back of the packaging. They hid the picture of a 1GB SD card and the "Pack Includes 1Gigabyte SD card" behind it xD

Having the Action Replay Disc, not an SD media launcher one includes, seems to have been the standard for a few years now. I found several references to this happening after buying mine a few months ago.
I just tested an Action Replay Disc I have, and it boots perfectly fine form the SD Card reader. You only need to have swiss named autoexec.dol in the root folder. It is the version that doesn't allow you to "entering your own code".

Just found two videos displaying some 240p Gameboy Player gameplay:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esDHMw17Es0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l72223Bq_hg
I wish Nintendo hadn't messed with the contrast of the Gameboy Player's output ... it may be 240p now, but the picture quality is still subpar.

^ IIRC GBA games have bright/washed out colors by default because they would look better on the frontlit GBA... there are some patches to fix some game's palettes but other than that I don't see what else can be done... unless you are referring to a different issue alltogether....?

I'll get back to you with my own testing once I'm done, but it should be possible. I'm guessing you need to do something to the iso? Let me work on it a bit.

how come you people struggle with launchers and similar methods? you can get a xenoGC for about 10$ nowdays and boot swiss from an ISO... is it a case where you don't want to mod your systems?

Re: Gameboy Advance RGB NTSC
Well, personally speaking, I prefer softmods since I rarely load backups or anything. I always prefer to use the original disc, but in this case it's a bit tedious to switch back and forth so this is like the one time I've ever felt the urge to load something through an SD Card, so I don't really need a full-fledged modchip. I don't use flash carts for similar reasons; I like to keep things stock and load discs/cartridges individually.

I refer to the fact that the Game Boy Player outputs pure white (as seen for example in the GBA logo's background) as ... well, grey. That wouldn't be a problem if other colors were equally muted - you could just ramp up contrast then and everything would be perfect - but they aren't.keropi wrote:^ IIRC GBA games have bright/washed out colors by default because they would look better on the frontlit GBA... there are some patches to fix some game's palettes but other than that I don't see what else can be done... unless you are referring to a different issue alltogether....?
You can see that quite well in the Minish Cap video - the originally glaring white in the main screen is actually darker (!) than the foliage surrounding it. Same goes for the mentioned GBA logo.
As long as there's no solution for that playing GBA games on the Game Boy Player is kind of a non-option for me. Game Boy games however are kind of okay thanks to their limited color palette.

Re: Gameboy Advance RGB NTSC
I don't own Minish Cap, but the Gameboy Advance boot screen looks plenty white to me. It's WAY brighter than that guy's video of it. Of course, I'm not using an XRGB. Sure it's not just something to do with XRGB settings or that guy's capture device/settings?Thomago wrote:I refer to the fact that the Game Boy Player outputs pure white (as seen for example in the GBA logo's background) as ... well, grey. I'm still getting this error- I'm guessing the temporary fix to get the GBP boot disc to run in 240p is strictly a disc-based method. If someone has an older version of Swiss (I JUST deleted my old one off my SD card unfortunately!) they could upload I can double check that theory.blizzz wrote:First of all, I've never seen GBA games look that good. Thanks for the tip on autobooting Swiss! The only thing that bothers me about Minish Cap are the greens. If you set the game to 'darker' on the file select screen it looks a bit better. I think they actually changed the grass color on the Wii U VC version. At least it didn't strike me when I saw it two weeks ago.

Got a few requests via DM to post the 480i version of swiss, for people that use a non-480p PVM via component. As stated before, devkitpro defaults to 480p when component is detected, this is not a swiss issue.
Here is a link to the zip to build 277M: http://junkerhq.net/code/swiss-277_480i.zip

Re: Gameboy Advance RGB NTSC
I have been attempting for over a week to get Swiss running on my Gamecube and I seem to have zero luck. My Gamecube is modded with a Viper mod chip (though it's the "lesser" one with a parallel port and not a USB port) and it boots backups of games just fine, but it will not boot Swiss. I tried the Swiss .iso burned to a DVD-R and it will not boot. I tried burning the .DOL file to a DVD-R and when I try to browse the disc in the Viper/Cobra menu, it says File System not valid.bobrocks95 wrote:Download link is here: http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/downlo ... hp?id=1531
In case you need to be registered and logged in on the site, here's the thread with the link as well:http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/viewto ... =25&t=1375
You need some method of running homebrew to launch Swiss. That can be a modchip, or SD Card to memory card adapters/boot discs like the older Action Replay that comes with an SD Card adapter for adding codes, or an SD Gecko for the Gamecube.
The cheapest and easiest option if you don't have anything to boot homebrew already would be the SD Media Launcher, since a lot of the other SD card adapters aren't produced any more: http://uk.codejunkies.com/Products/GCNW ... 00580.aspx (They have a US site as well for anyone interested)
Even though my GC is modded I can't seem to get Swiss to boot. Can anyone please give me any advice on getting it running?

Re: Gameboy Advance RGB NTSC
Can't say I'll be much help, but it may be an odd incompatibility issue. Check this thread I found and see if it would pertain to your regular Viper chip (the thread is talking about the Viper Extreme), or google around and see if it's a known issue: http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/viewto ... 62fb62097d
