I get that urge sometimes.
Does it actually look terrible though or is there some aesthetic that still works for you? ...Even something perhaps in how it plays or moves that recommends itself to you?
There's plenty of objectively (?) poor renderings, that are valued amongst the most important expressions within our culture. There's no reason games shouldn't be similarly valued (and respected) like a painting/wines/anything else that get's placed on a pedestal and valued as 'antiques' - the implication being that these are something to be preserved and treasured. Sure there's scams/hype/cheeky sellers [and buyers], but that happens wherever any value accrues; in a weird way it is kind of culturally validating.
This doesn't mean a beaten up physical copy of
anything is a 'good buy'. Its a shame if that is the only way a title can be enjoyed these days [unlikely, but legally maybe], I live in hope that companies can curate their content so as to keep it accessible, whilst collectors may still hoard originals. Of course, unfortunately, we're likely to lose some notable examples along the way - such as with film/music. We could hope/expect for better, but computer games do not yet hold the cultural esteem to demand this.
... but yeah sucks that the raiden seller was being a bit dumb - you were probably the only person he was going to be selling that to at a decent price that day. But it's kind of cool that he even thought to check to see if he had something of value... even if he fails to yet appreciate how/why... step 1 of 2...
