I made a thread in the strategy section about this a long while ago, but apparently NO ONE can figure out this mystery. In the PSX version of Raiden DX's boss rush, what exactly are the Sol Towers there for? It can't be for scoring because you don't earn points in boss rush, instead you are timed to kill each boss quickly. Here is a video of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xi6BKchYk8M
The towers I am referring to can be seen at 1:43, 1:55, and 2:13-2:16

Awesome thanks for the quick reply. I'll have to give it a shot tomorrow. The medal thing is no problem, but I would have never figured out that stage 3 boss thing.

What's considered the "default" or arcade difficulty in Judgement Silversword?

JSS isn't an arcade game, they're all valid modes for play.

Perhaps what would be a more to the point phrasing is "which difficulty is closest to an arcade difficulty setting"?

This. Eschato's dev went on record to say he considers hard difficulty to be arcade difficulty, so I wasn't sure if the same principle applied to JSS (being the spiritual precursor)

shmup related because I'm going to use it for shmups:

Can anyone recommend me a decent NES controller with autofire? Preferably a pad and not one of the Advantage sticks.

^ Instead of a controller, try to get your hands on the Turbo Blaster. It's a small additional device that comes between the controller and the system, and with it you can tweak just exactly how much autofire you want. This allows you to use whatever controller you like, and it even works with two players. I have one of 'em myself, it's great.

Oh yeah that's perfect! Is that an official product? Wonder if I can get one here in Japan... If not I guess I can always import it.

Hudson made a very cool NES controller that not only had independent adjustable turbo on each button, but also had an audio pass-through for headphones. A very cool feature indeed ^_~

Great tip on the Turbo Blaster, that sounds awesome! Might look into one of those myself.

None other than Takahashi Meijin himself appears in Star Soldier (FC)'s instruction sheet hawking some Hudson autofire control pads. With this 1986 title's punishing tapping, it's no surprise Hudson would seize such an opportunity for a little cross-promotion. ^_~

Because why just make it a feature in your fuckin' game hahaha

It's actually hudsons stuff that is motivating me to get a better controller as it turns out.

When practicing a stage I have my own music playing. But during full runs, I like to have the game music LOUD. I wonder if I'm the only one. This is especially the case if I'm handling a really grindy level, where my problem area is 4mins into the level or some other long length.

Whether I use a custom ost or not heavily depends on how much I like the ost. I could see myself swapping out the music for a lot of shmups, but can't imagine myself ever doing so for Ketsui or DOJ.

I feel like I'm the only person in the world who doesn't like the Ketsui and DoJ soundtrack :/ I must be a bad person...

But despite that I basically never use custom soundtracks when playing my games, regardless of my thoughts on the soundtrack of the game in question.

What's considered an easier 1cc: Mushihimesama Futari Black label original, or Muchi Muchi Pork (v1.00)?

I think most would say Mushi BL Original; even I've managed that one.

Speaking of Mushi, I imported it for 360 a year ago, but I still haven't gotten around to purchasing the dlc (?) for black label. How exactly do you do that?

The Black Label DLC appears on the marketplace for all regions:
Go to the games marketplace on your console, hit y to search once you see the option near the bottom, and type in "Black Lavel" (yes, it's misspelled like that).

Is MMP even considered an easy game? It kicks the shit out of me... :(

Black Label though is seriously not a hard shmup, particularly with Reco. Basically you can just wing it through stage 1 and 2, have a very very basic plan and path for stage 3, and pretty much just constantly tap dodge from left to right ad infinitum all the way through stages 4 and 5. Reco's laser more or less functions as a slow down button, so you really shouldnt have any problem dodging unless you are creating extremely bad situations for yourself via uber-shitty positioning. Grab the extend after the midboss in stage 5, Bomb spam the fat bitch, and grab a beer as the credits roll.

Ah, thank you. Gonna be getting some money for online purchases soon, so I'll probably buy that.

Compared to a hunk of Yagawa's other stuff it's more forgiving in several ways, but I doubt too many would call it a cake walk overall, heh.

No cake walk. My first Cave 1cc was Progear and I find MMP a pain in the ass. That said I always play for score which ranks up like nobody's business.

I was probably jumping to conclusions about MMP: I haven't made it past stage 3, but from what I've seen so far the game seemed quite easy compared to other shmups.

Aren't most shmups rather forgiving up until stage 3?

Well I always felt like Saidaioujou started smacking me around the moment I pressed start (although I've always played without autobombs). I think my perception of MMP was kind of influenced by HG101, which I used to take seriously (they claimed that MMP wasn't liked by players because it was too easy).
