Illvelo is the only good Milestone game.

I assume I'll never play this, but it makes me want to get into Illvelo again. Is it another weird game or a proper stg?

Dammit, I really should have bought a Japanese 3DS instead of a PAL one.
On the "plus" side, I guess the game will use the same engine as Karous BoR and Radirgy de Gojaru! and be crippled with excessive slowdown so it won't be a big loss...

It is still really cool to see "new" Klon/Milestone games and hear new khdn music. They recently updated their soundcloud page to include Illvelo remixes, so maybe those are going to be in the game.

CStarFlare : You didn't like any of the other Milestone games? Illvelo is also one of my favorites, but the others can be very fun as well. Radirgy in particuliar isn't as easy to clear as Illvelo or Karous, but not difficult for the wrong reasons like Radirgy Noa. This makes it a bit more addictive in my opinion.

I don't think any of their games are better than average. Chaos Field has the nicest presentation and is the least aggressively mediocre, probably because of how much it borrows from Treasure's far superior games.

might buy a japanese 3DS since I don't own a 3DS and just helped kickstart an rpg "omori" for the platform lol. really been wanting to get my hands on the digital version of recca too.

this might actually get me to bite since I do enjoy milestone (I guess klon now) games.

Good to see that Klon have managed to corral most of MileStone's IPs (granted, I'd like to see them doing more with said IPs). Shmup-wise, I guess only Chaos Field remains for them to obtain.

Any status of a western release of the other two Milestone/klon games?

I can understand that Milestone games can be very unsettling and they don't really play like most shmups, but mediocre? Hum...Milestone shmups are quite effective at what they intend to do (Being a bit chaotic yet playable, and putting emphasis on the scoring system) but they have elements that may not appeal to everybody, such as the art direction, the easiness of some of the games or the focus on bullet canceling.

They are not broken, awfully slow-paced or dull games, those are what you would call mediocre. However they are different. Very different. Hey, that is what is cool with shmups : there are a lot of different games for different playstyles.
And did I mention the music's awesome? Yeah, I know that it is subjective, just like the art direction.

EmperorIng : As far as we know, there is no news about Western releases of the Klon games. I personally wouldn't expect that to happen.

I hope Klon--if they are truly the successors to MileStone including not just KHDN but the rest of the developers as well--makes an original shooter soon. I wouldn't be opposed to a Chaos Field 2 though. 8)
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Just so you know, digital Recca is available on the NA eshop, even though the 3DS port censors the special effects (flashing lights :( ).

Either way, this is pretty cool news -- even if I won't be able to play it unless it gets a US release.

Why would they censor the lights? For the population that has seizures I'm guessing?

Are you sure? I thought I remembered flashing lights in stage 2 (maybe when bombing?) although it could have been when I was playing it in fceux that I'm remembering.

The white/red strobe lights were toned down to be slower, and with darker colors. They also replaced the bomb sprite, which now just looks awkward.

As for why, Nintendo has a pretty hard policy on this kind of stuff. Also note that the boss flashing sprites were nixed from only the Wii version of the metal slug anthology (and the SNK collection), which were still present in all other iterations of the port.

EDIT: Oh, but all of the sprite flickering as a result of pushing the hardware is still there.

Please stop parroting this stupid rumor, that had nothing at all to do with some imaginary policy on flashing enemies. The porters were just plain incompetent. You can even find some hit flash still in certain places in the games.

In fact if you want further proof I'm sure the hit flash is just fine in the far better Virtual Console versions of the games.

Ah, sorry. Having played the collections, in particular referring to shock troopers on the snk collection and the metal slug collection, I just figured that must have been the reason since it was only absent on the wii versions of the games.

Apparently, you will be able to download a 45 stages version of the game for free (Taikenban Plan), and the full game for JPY1000 (Seihinhan Plan).
It's coming out next month, but the specific release date has yet to be announced.

I don't think it's a good idea to use flat models with an isometric view.

Well, the goofy bomb and death animations have made the transition, so at least the important stuff has been taken care of.

Maybe they went with those flat models to reduce the amount of slowdown and avoid what happened in Karous BoR or Radirgy de Gojaru whenever something was going on in the game?

Given the screenshots and the differences between the two "versions" of the game, it sems like this is going to be a port of the Wii port's Special Mode, where you go through all of the bonus stages one after the other.

I had no idea the 3DS was region-locked.

Why would they region-lock in this day-and-age, let alone a handheld?
