Dumb things you did because of SHMUP/video game induced rage

In the past, I had a terrible temper, but I'm more chilled out now thanks to age, experience, wine and legal weed (Colorado!). My favorite incident would have to be when I punched my Astro City monitor so hard, a static shock went through the harness and into the controller shaft I was holding and shocked me. Instant karma.

I did slam my the corner of my Satrun HRAP into my Ikea fake-wood coffee table a while back and it stuck there, halfway way imbedded into the shitty wood/foam core, like some sort of HRAP totem.

For shmups I don't think I've ever raged beyond just feeling endless soul crushing defeat and staring blankly at the screen, but oh boy fuck Street Fighter 4.

Years back I was playing against a Cammy. I lost. Cammy makes me rage harder than any other member of the cast.

I got frustrated and went to elbow the sofa expecting padding. Instead, my gf (now wife.. somehow) had snuck in to sit behind me and I elbowed her in the leg at full force. I quickly apologised when I heard the "ow!!" and many hugs were dished out

Also unrelated, she once asked me "whats a shoryuken?" so I gave her a real life demonstration. Except she was too close on the spin. So I actually SRK'd her. With full vocalisation too...

I once accidentally headbutted my husband when I went in for a snuggle in bed and misjudged the distance in the dark, but I think you've topped me on the whole accidental abuse of your loved one thing.

I'll yell at the game, punch the couch cushions, punch my thigh, or throw a controller now and then, but I've never broken anything playing video games.

My only equipment destruction happened while computer programming. Couldn't solve a problem. Spiked my mouse onto a tiled concrete floor. Resumed working. Still can't solve problem. Spiked the mouse again. Resumed working even though the mouse buttons were all fucked up and dislodged. Think I have problem solved. Nope. My wife then came into the room and found me on the floor hitting the mouse with a shoe.



On a side note, I can't stop laughing about the guy who SRK'ed his wife. I'm at work, this is a bad thing.

When I was 14, I punched (and broke) the glass covering the monitor and bezel of a Rastan cabinet as I was so frustrated by stage 4. Nobody seemed to notice, so I finished my credit then quickly left the premises.

When I was 35, I played Thunder Dragon 2 and got so annoyed by the announcer after a cheap death that I yanked the whole shaft of my Seimitsu LS-32 straight up from the control panel of my chinese Xiong Ba cabinet that I had finally found a buyer for. Luckily, the cabinet remained undamaged and the sale was successfully completed two days later with a newly fitted LS-32.

I had been trying to beat Hudson's Adventure Island on NES one night during the summer about 15 years ago. If you've ever tried this, then you know how hard it is to beat certain levels if you die and don't start back up with a good weapon. Anyway, I'd been playing for a few hours and in a fog didn't hit the right series of buttons for continue and started back on Level 1. I flipped out and spiked our TV remote as hard as I could into the floor. The front cover blew off and buttons went everywhere. It looked like you took a handful of tic tacs and just threw them across the room, good times!
