They don't seem to be too hot on self promotion so going to mention this here. But if possible I advise UK people get down to Astro City in Southend, Essex. ESPGaluda and Ketsui on what could well be the Casino arcade's old sit down Electrocoins. Even better, DDonpachi Daioujou Black label on an Astro City. Also it's ten minutes from the beach and all the jellied eels you can stomach.

Found an arcade in Lincoln City, Oregon a couple months back.

Had 1943, Aero Fighters 2 and R-Type (with the default set to 5 lives for some reason).

Food was terrible but they had good beer on tap and the Blazers game on a 70 inch TV. I've had worse nights, for sure.

More Illinois shmup arcades! (Well, one arcade).

Nickle City is a husk of an arcade at this point, but their free-play section manages to have a couple of gems: a really beaten up GigaWing, and a (suprisingly, given the state of most of the machines) decently maintained Viper Phase 1. (Then again, it's probably in decent condition because nobody plays it).

Galloping Ghost also has

Metal Black
Strikers 1945 Plus
Aero Fighters 1, 2 and 3 (1 is really the Japanese version Sonic Wings because of the difficulty setting)
Life Force
Truxton
Sky Shark
Twin Cobra
Twin Eagle 1 and 2

Yesterday:

Hot Game Club
Dariusburst
Strikers 1945 III
Varth
Mario
Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu
Raiden IV
Shikigami no Shiro III
Varth (again)
Double Game
Battle Bakraid
Battle Garegga (crazy boot ver)
DOJ BL
Raiden Fighters 2
Mix City
Supersize Ikaruga
Unfortunately there isn't any desire for any game centres to introduce any new shmups - this lot have been here since I got here and the roster is unchanged. Not complaining, but I have considered lending them some PCB's, I just don't know how to go about the negotiations.

Galaga, maybe 8 years ago, before my local arcade finally ditched it (the jerks), and then they died a few years later.

Outside that Galaga machine I have only ever seen a more modern shooter in an actual arcade once, and it was a Raiden II machine some time around the mid '90s or so.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Last time I went, a few months ago. They had Futari BL at Arcade Odyssey, down in Miami. Also, Raiden 4 and another one I can't remember.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
