i don`t get it... the pc was, is and always will be a gaming machine otherwise i could buy a 100 € notebook if i wanted a modern typewriter. yeah there is overhead by the system and there are issues but good programmers can deal with that. e.g. look @ crimzon clover ! it runs smooth as butter. same goes for astrebreed :)

steam and p.cs are fine unless your a whiny bitch.you can easy buy a decent set up for less than a ps4 or xboggs one .i'm not even technically minded yet i don't run into trouble.
given a choice between shoot em ups on p.c or no shoot em ups at all i think we would all prefer shoot em ups to continue to be released.

I just read that Astebreed and Revolver360/Re:Actor are coming for PS4. Frankly, the PC is the more future proof platform.

PCs have been used by millions of people to play games for decades. It's OK if you don't like playing on them, but to say they're not for games is pretty obviously false.

The biggest things wrong with PC+games is happening literally right now in the Crimzon Clover thread. If you can't see how that's a huge huge issue for fucking games, I think you're beyond teaching.

All I see is one guy using outdated hardware and software, running into a bug that might very well be unrelated to the actual game in question. Still, I've had greater annoyances with consoles, like region-locking or locking out sticks/controllers from other manufacturers or previous generations. All things considered, PCs are much more convenient.

there's an app(lication programming interface) for that. don't hate the playa (pc as a platform for games), hate the game (developers)

The console Raiden IV Overkill has controller issues and other bugs right now, but I know you wouldn't conclude from that that consoles aren't for games.

Constant sub-30fps during combat, slowdown where there shouldn't be any. If you can't see how that's a huge huge issue for fucking games, I think you're beyond teaching.

There's also a controller issue if you want to plug your Xbox 360 stick into the Xbone. The vast majority of people who play Crimzon Clover World Ignition don't seem to experience any problems, though.

My biggest issue with PC gaming is that I want to play games that could probably be run on a Dreamcast (or even a Saturn) with proper optimization (Jamestown, for instance). But I can't play them on a PC that is like 100x times more powerful than a Dreamcast because, while their system requirements aren't too demanding, they're using libraries that require hardware support like dx11 or OpenGL3, or else they're simply really poorly optimized (what else might have been going on with EmperorIng's computer that couldn't run Steam Ikaruga at proper FPS, but could run the same game fine (albeit at lower resolution, probably), in nullDC?)

Note that according to the thread the game used to work with Intel GPUs, but an update got rid of that capability, but of course most people put the burden on the consumer rather than the developer

But there's no reason why these games shouldn't run on a toaster. Some of the nicest looking games with very high sprite counts ran just fine on 16 bit arcade hardware, 15-20 years ago. I can easily emulate that hardware (never even dropping one frame) which means that my PC is WAY more powerful than it.

Then again, there's plenty of planned obsolescence in the console industry, too. But at least you'll never run into updates that break a game for just small enough amount of people that it's not worth fixing, and new hardware comes around only every 5-7 years.

Anyway, this stuff annoys me, but I know it's not changing any time soon. Probably going to buy an X360 and a few shmups sometime soon, and really I probably have enough games to last me a lifetime at this point, so I don't mind that I wont be able to play new ones any time soon.

I have had more headaches from console gaming than PC gaming. For PC's there's always a workaround to whatever problem you may have. Back in the day when psn went down for the better part of a month it made some online games useless. Choosing a good res and running at a good framerate is not something consoles deliver. These days, you are as susceptible to DRM whether on PC or Consoles. This is how the industry has become, because of fears relating to piracy. PCs are immortal, they never die, they can be customized and improved, part by part. I find upgrading my rig with a new gfx card to be so much fun. Lastly the most important point that many have already touched upon, is that most modern consoles are basically PCs with a nice shell. Whether you buy "consoles" or PCs, you are by default playing on some form of PC these days.

Yeah, I think it's basically a fundamental difference here. Personally I don't think that new computers or new consoles should be required unless you actually need the addition horsepower (e.g. really high poly first person shooters that are almost real life looking. games that I have no interest in whatsoever). Most people have embraced planned obsolescence and think the burden should be on the player / consumer to keep their shit up to date. I'm not even saying that what I would like is possible in an industry that is (like all other industries) directed by profit and therefore needs planned obsolescence to stay in business, I just don't like it. It's not something I have the power to change, it's not the way most people feel. It's not something we can likely argue about since we are making difference assumptions to begin with.

Yeah, I mean this is a good point. I bear no ill will against people who want to play steam games that my computer can't handle. I will probably even do this as well when my computer can handle it (e.g. Crimzon Clover: World Ignition).
