I stupidly can't remember is Pulstar or Blazing Star the one where the default high score initials are all three digits instead of letters? It might have been some other SNK game.
Regardless, it was cool because it turned out tat the numbers were the head designer names written down the high score lists in hex form or something.
Last Resort's soundtrack is very badass. Both the original and remixed NeoCD versions. It was a surprisingly dark game for the time.
Alpha Mission 2 is sooo much fun, I know I mention it like any time SNK and shmups come up but I love that game.
I wish I could get in contact with the guy again, I knew someone who worked for SNK, actually was able to piece together a modified Neo CDZ that loaded at 6x instead of the standard. Good but you didn't want to play it for more than three hours at a time.
prof ganson: If your front-loading NES is giving you trouble, replace the contacts. 99% of the time the problem is that the contacts are worn away/oxidized because Nintendo stopped using gold ones after a while to save money. You can get a 72-pin gold connector (usually for around $20 or even less if you really shop around) and replace it yourself.
If the problem is the bullshit brass/silver contacts and you do this replacement, then once you do your NES will literally run and sound better than it ever has. No blowing on the game or any other crap, just put the cartridge in and it's ON flawlessly, it's like it's 1986 again. The cartridges will fit in much more efficiently too, no more cartridge shifting around and destroying your game because the cat bumped into the NES. You don't even have to actually push the cartridge down into the loader, just as long as it's inserted completely so that it's touching the contacts. Great stuff.
You could also get one of those fake NESes for around $40 or so now that the patent has expired on the hardware. Most of these are pretty dumb. If you do get one get the one by Yobo, it's awesome, though no lightgun or other peripheral support of any kind.
