Salamander & Life Force on Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus (PS1 ver), on "Sp. Hard"

Salamander is terribly cheap on how it kills you. I got upset :x.

Gradius II on Very Difficult is done now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFS1BJZUZoA

Did have a pretty nasty run of deaths on the Moai stage, which makes the boss a bitch.

I actually think Gradius 1 is harder between the two on the max difficulty (at least for the Playstation deluxe pack versions). Took me like 10 times as may tries to beat Gradius 1 versus 2 lol.

I prefer the PCE-CD version of Gradius II to the PCB. It features an entire new stage, the default difficulty setting is a bit more reasonable, and it's essentially arcade perfect in all other respects.

I have the PC Engine versions too, just haven't got around to playing them yet. I've heard those are the best versions of Gradius 1 & 2.

Yeah man. I'm seeing the bits on ST2-4 where you've run out of bomb fragments, and clenching my teeth while watching

Do you ever take a break and play something other than Pork for a while? or another genre? I'm curious about the mentality of players at your level =]

Mentality?? - I'm nuts. Everyone is sure of that.
Do I take breaks to play other games? - Nope. I've gotta keep shredded on Pork.

Unreal is not enough. It'll have to get Surreal before I can create the conditions for a Manpuku 2-ALL

Haha, that stage 5.

Would be fab to see you clear it, but that looks like a tall order - that section after the midboss is lacking any bomb fragments and would probably eat many lives. Is it possible to stall the midboss until that section ends, similar to in stage 4?

Yes you are spot on, I can't stall it, there are really no gaps to allow that, but it would only eat 1 life after that ST2-5 MidBoss. The huge problem will be the next MidBoss - the helicopter. I won't be able to do the lasting-out technique on it, so will need to kill it immediately, which will unleash Merry Hell - probably at least 7 mid sized enemies spewing exploding mines/tight bullet spreads/popcorns, the whole schmeer. I'd be lucky to only lose 1 further life on this no bomb fragment section.
Then there's more

These should probably be added to the youtube thread
Mars Matrix score attack videos (definately not played by me):
Rob wrote: Stage 2 - 2,38X chain, 2.09m exp
Stage 3 - 2,561 chain, 3.15m exp -- failed run, but it's mostly there.
Stage 5 - 2,549 chain, 2.66m exp
Seriously impressive stuff, especially stage 2

Rob literally destroyed through that tank section easily: excellent control on hoarding bullets, destroying necessary enemies ships/tanks/turrents, and timing on gold collecting. I probably going to give this game another go this week.

Yeah it's pretty insane. It looks like he's not even paying attention to the bullets, the way he moves, and yet none of them are hitting him. Also chaining stage 2 is basically impossible, and I had assumed, til now, that chaining through to a boss battle was also impossible. Damn, son. Not to mention those experience counts per level  The most I've gotten in four levels is like 800,000 some.

That video made my day :D I thought that he was done for when the bomb exploded by the end of the 2-5 boss fight but it was awesome to see that you can trigger the bomb glitch on the actual Doom fight as well :O

That Ketsui video is insane. I guess he figured out how to do the bomb trick 100% of the time. Really cool replay.

Very interesting, it really seems it's as simple as getting your options to lock onto an enemy right to the side of you before bombing right as that enemy dies or leaves the screen, so when the bomb bounces off a wall it just goes straight back into the other wall.

Not exactly great playing, I almost died a bunch of times but at least it makes for an exciting replay. I was also going for score, not with much success (I think the WR is 20mil higher?). I think I demonstrated the system pretty well though.

No problem. I'll upload a proper scoring run once I get a good score on hard (~43 mil) since that replay is just a really scrubby 1cc :P
