Re: Capturing - Framemeister-based and VGA PC
I did this very comparison last year at a friend's (well, actually XCAP-1 vs. MINI). On the XCAP you're locked to what the capture hardware delivers, while you can tweak the H_SCALER setting on the Mini to adjust to vertical edges. Should give you better results with different settings. Give it a try.

blizzz - That is quite a nice addition to this topic. Thank you. Coincidentally, I just received an elgato Game Capture HD in the mail yesterday to pair with my Framemeister for recording purposes, so I guess I now have a solution. I haven't had a chance to use it just yet, but I look forward to giving it a go.

Edit: With H_Scaler set to 2.

Luigi's ear is a bit sharper, but not a huge difference. Is there a way to disable the aspect ratio?
I also fixed the 404 link in my last post.

I remembered the results to be better. I'll check again.
Bye the way: your capture run through the usual double-resizing (fixing most of the sampling problems). You might be able to add this live into your capture chain somewhere....

Re: Capturing - Framemeister-based and VGA PC
I came across to this great forum regarding the XRGB-mini and registered myself today.
All these while I been using this setup for my Live Streaming/Record all my gaming sessions.
Since I bought my Framemeister and the Framemeister HDMI output is connected to one of the free HDMI switch port using the above setup. My question here is that a way to take away the HDMI Splitter or any best way to change the existing setup?
Sorry for using this thread and bump this thread up for asking the question. If it's not allow I'll open a thread for the above question. Peace

You need the splitter to remove the HDCP that the PS3 uses. If you wouldn't have the PS3 in your setup you could just use the HDMI passthrough of your capture device.
In which way do you want to improve your setup? Do you want 1080p 60fps, surround sound support or lossless capture?

Yes, my current setup is using a splitter to remove the HDCP for PS3 (before Framemiester setup).blizzz wrote:You need the splitter to remove the HDCP that the PS3 uses. If you wouldn't have the PS3 in your setup you could just use the HDMI passthrough of your capture device.

I read from the above post that since Framemiester in place, we can use the Framemiester together with the capture card for the streaming or recording. So I would like to know the actual setup how it look like and of course with AVR support aka surround sound support and 720p60p should be enough with Framemiester.
Peace

You capture the Framemeister like any other HDMI source. Depending on your capture device you will have to lock the refresh rate (sync mode off). The consoles you'll connect to the Framemeister are likely all stereo, so surround sound is not an option.

Here's a comparison between the Micomsoft SC-500N1 and the Elgato HD for Framemeister captures: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/90578
Two things that are interesting:
1. Reds aren't as sharp on the Elgato HD screenshot. I guess this is to be expected from the YV12 colorspace, but it still surprised me. If you look at the lower edge of the curtain you can see that the red bleeds out a bit.
2. The greens are much more intense on the Elgato capture. Not exactly sure why that is the case, but I think the SC-500N1 version is the correct color.
I wonder if there's anything you can do to improve the quality of the Elgato footage.
Edit: The SC-500N1 screenshot is off. Apparently the colors are wrong if you use the current Micomsoft driver. It's ok with older drivers.
Edit: Check this comparison for a screenshot of the Framemeister with correct colors on the SC-500N1 (hover over the image): http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/90597

Re: Capturing - Framemeister-based and VGA PC
Regarding the refresh rate, currently I am having issue not able to record the gameplay video due to the refresh rate change. I had tried to lock the refresh rate (sync mode off), the screen goes black for a while and return back to sync mode auto.....sometimes the screen get totally off and have to hard reboot the Framemeister. Luckily no problem on live stream (Twitch).blizzz wrote:You capture the Framemeister like any other HDMI source. Note: Video capture device is Avermedia Live Gamer Portable

What firmware are you on? It seems to work fine on 1.08 for me.
