Didn't DOJ on the PS2 actually support 240p, as well? I thought that both that and Espgaluda did.[/quote]

Yeah, both DOJ and ESPGALUDA look great in 240p TATE on an arcade monitor (TATE HOSEI is available too, it's a 3:4 sized output for regular TVs to avoid overscan).

Nintendo Saturn wrote:ah, that's great to know! Some games (like Blast Wind on the Saturn) don't feature a tate option IIRC.

Can you - or anyone else in the know - confirm that all the major/interesting 360 STGs are optimized for tate play?
Blast Wind was designed for yoko displays. There's no tate option because there's no tate display. Yes, originally when the game was being developed for arcades the intent was for a vertical display, but that was dropped when the arcade release was cancelled. The game is yoko only because that's how it was eventually designed.

Every shmup on the 360 that is a port of an arcade game using a 3:4 screen has a tate option (as does Bullet Soul). Games like Radirgy Noa were never in tate to begin with (so why the hell would they have a tate display option?). Just because a game scrolls vertically doesn't mean it was designed for a vertical display.

I play all the tate display 360 shmups on a traditional tate'd CRT through S-video (pretty much all of them have overscan adjustment) without any issue (aside from SDOJ's zoomed in menus).

Oops. I meant 240p. Thanks for the correction.

I doubt we'll learn anything new until the first deliveries are fulfilled.

My only concerns are;
1) the delivery of my own order ^^
2) if the corrective patches are already included or not

If they were not before, I doubt they will be now. Unless there is some new DVD with them on it in there. But I doubt they patched them on the actual game discs, because that would require them to go through MS checkshit again which costs money. All this is is repackaged old stuff that already was approved by MS.

Thanks so much for the info; I'm not as knowledgeable as some (most) of the people in here, but I've been playing shmups on and off for fun for the past 16 years or so. :)

As for the Cave collection, anyone knows if you can mute the little girl voices off? Looking at YouTube videos, I must admit I find them highly annoying/distracting.

Well, got my shipping notification today from Amazon Japan. Or rather, the notification that it will be shipping today... So, it'll be a little while before I get it, but it sounds like I will, in fact, be getting my hands on this.

I immediately regretted not buying the Cave Collection that came out last year, so missing out on a second chance like this seemed like a bad idea.

Nothing from Nin-Nin yet. I'm leaving on vacation in early June. I hope this doesn't take too long to arrive. :(

For my part, I pre-ordered the box from a Japanese eBay seller.

Hopefully it goes smoothly and we don't get it with customs fees...

Cool. Amazon shipped my set to Tenso, Tenso's forwarded it on to me.

So, whoever said buying it through Amazon Japan wouldn't work, well... they were wrong.

Of course it will work with a proxy. That's nothing new.

Well, yeah. I only mentioned it because this guy was spewing some nonsense a while back:

Aww, I still haven't even heard from NIN-NIN either...

Did it come with any extra goodies? If so, just say yes but don't tell us what it is. :D

A wild guess is that they used the same multi disc game boxes for the superplays this time .

The superplays all have their own boxes - the games are in the multi-disc DVD cases.

How can it be so tiny then compared to the earlier box that was already tightly filled ?

My first impression was that it's tiny.. Maybe I'm mistaken. I haven't seen the first edition set since it came out. Its pretty much the same size as 11 DVD cases next to each other. Wasn't the other set much large? I seem to remember that it had a lot of cardboard spacers inside...?

Same same as the old collection it seems but with an extra game instead of a soundtrack.
