 That's dedication! I mostly just tried to survive that game. I doubt I got 100% on any level.
I 100%'d every level of the 1st Maximo as well. I loved that game.

The 2nd one I just played through. A few of them I 100%'d but didn't bother going back. It was a good game and I liked the music better in the 2nd. But the 1st game was slightly better. (2nd is less frustrating)
Man, you guys are making me want to go and buy that game again. But then I remember just how frustrated I got sometimes, throwing my controller-- something I almost never do.

I know it's lame to admit, but I bought one of the guides for this game (I don't remember which brand) and it turned out that the thing was really well written and I loved the artwork in it. Unfortunately, I don't think I have it anymore.

Does anyone else find it a little disturbing that when Arthur's armor breaks (from one hit too...must be made of cheap tin or something) that he is running around in his heart-pattern boxers?

Also, I could have sworn the main character of Demon's Crest is based on those annoying red gargoyles (their AI is unpredictable!)

Super GnG was a tough game, on the SNES I couldn't get past the second level boss.

Awww crap, talking about this game makes me want to hunt down the GBA verison. Bet it'll look good on my DS.

Yup. The main character of Demon's Crest and the two Gargoyle's Quest games is the infamous Red Arreamer (aka red gargoyle). The two Gargolye's Quest games are called Red Arreamer: Makai-Mura Gaiden and Red Arreamer 2 in Japan.

I had to use a FAQ to find a few of the chests. And I went through I think 2 controllers on Maximo 1. I ended up finishing it on a busted controller.

The 2nd one has a set of boxers you can find that rumble the controller when you get near buried treasure. The last guy was pretty frustrating for part 2, but not too bad once you figure out the secret.

I never used any faqs to get all of the secrets.. but on the other hand I spent more time jumping around that would have really been healthy..

100%ing mastery level took very long time through; I took 2month break just out of frustration in that one.

One goal is still left for me in maximo - I never took any kisses from the witches because I preferred permanent weapons; I have to yet to try to open the gallery..

The answer is yes.

Don't hurt me...

Anyway, I'll probably never play it, but I've got nothing against GnG. I do like VJ better, though.
Fudge. And they say that furries are weird.

@FatCobra: I'm sure the heart boxers thing is a nod to the american cartoons when characters are exposed, they always show up in their heart undies, and then run off the screen all embarrassed.

This thread inspired me to hit Ebay once again in a venture to procure this item, although it's on CCC, I just had to have it anyway.

And best of all, the Japanese version is hidden inside, even if it is the same game. :)

Gotta send payment out first thing Monday morning.

Edit: I liked the box art too, but I've always liked the official Capcom artwork for it a little better with the comical look.

There is a code for the Genesis Ghouls 'n Ghosts that allows you to play the Japanese version of the game without a region switch.

Options menu, set music to 26, sound to 56, hold down the following and press start while doing so: Hold Down, Left, A,B,C, press start while holding these buttons, a small sound should occur, and voila, the Japanese title screen will come up.

So the Genny cart is worth something after all, even for those who have the Capcom collection. Glad I held on to it. Thanks for the code!

I just got Makaimura for Wonderswan. Really well done game, and unique from the others in the series. Just too bad it's not in color.

Anybody know how to defeat Nightmare? (The horse boss in level 4)
I'm having trouble figuring out a good strategy for this ****er. :(

I usually only get to the Castle boss in stage 2, it's rock spitting pattern never seems predictable to me, I usually give up after a few times of fighting against it. Great game even if it's in black and white, also I found that 1-Up hidden right in front of the castle (even if it involves getting to the castle top, then jumping back left, snagging the 1-Up then having to make your way through the castle levels again). Makaimura WS is pretty spiffy and for awhile was the only GnG game I had never had the opportunity, that is until I found an emulator and rom for it.

And as for the Genesis GnG code, you're welcome. :)

I'm actually working on a Makaimura WS FAQ, so when it's finished, I'm sure you'll be able to beat the game, as it's actually not that hard, compared to other GNG games. ;)

With the Castle boss it helps if you have the bow and arrow. Stay close to him while he spits the fire, so you won't get hit. When he bounces a rock, get close to where it will hit the ground and duck, and it will bounce over you.

The Horse boss is really hard though. I have a strategy, but it's risky and only works about a third of the time. I'm thinking there must be some trick, but no idea. :?

You're welcome Dutch, before I found that site, I didn't even know the existance of the Wonderswan, or even the Makaimura title for it. It's a tough game, bosses seem to take forever to kill, but I'm guessing the Goddess bracelet plays apart yet again in this one, and it likely kills bosses much faster than the regular weapons.
