but to answer the question (which has been asked numerous times on this forum), Microsoft actually supported the japanese niche devs near the beginning of the gen. Which was needed for the huge shift of shooters from sony platforms to microsoft platforms. I'm not sure how true this is... but I read that Sony was only interested in HD games that took advantage of the whole screen. Plus I heard early development on Sony platform was hell.
and believe it or not one of the only reasons SaiDaiOuJou was ported was because Microsoft approached CAVE asking for a port (again.. only what I've read).

different setup in that regard, but once you stick that PCB into a cab the resulting system isn't super exotic is it? (in comparison to the architecture of a ps3 or a saturn or what have you...)

But it is architecturally exotic, that's what I mean. Different CPU, different video hardware, different sound hardware, different input hardware. There's literally nothing the same other than "takes input and makes video and sound" which defines most computation devices since the early 80s.

two completely different pieces of hardware can be designed with the same style of computation in mind, or with very different styles of computation in mind. take CPUs and GPUs. both are processors, and any computation you can do on one you can do on the other, but they compute in very different styles, and require very differently structured code.

that said, calling the hardware cave's stuff runs on a PC in a different box was an overstatement. i eat my words.

and a little off topic, code against gcc with cross platform libs, and you literally are few steps to port to any platform gcc runs on.

there are a few older ports, like the ps2 ports of daioujou, espgaluda, mushihimesama, and ibara, but even two of those have better ports on 360 (though you'd still want the original ports for the bonuses they have).
