Even then, I never heard of too few amps causing damage, it just wouldn't have enough power to run as far as I know. I've only heard of damage from too high voltage personally. And like you said more amps won't hurt, it'll just draw what it needs.chromium wrote:3A will be fine, I'm using a 3A one on mine. Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Yup from the Wiki, just wondered if there was any fine tuning required for better results...getting my NES working right for HDTV is becoming expensive!, but I've been emulating since 95' and the flickers, tearing, timing, just never works quite right, regardless of the tv-type. Hope this works good! Gonna have to drop another $150~ for a PowerPack...games are $20+ now? I should have never sold my NES collection...chromium wrote:3A will be fine, I'm using a 3A one on mine. http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Volt-3-Amp-Po ... 35ce5ca01b
I heard that anything less than 2.3a will possibly damage it. But what if the amperage is too high? It's a .7 difference.
I would just adapt this power supply that is known to work, but they won't ship to the USA:

I got the adapter without the sync stripper. The latest fw doesn't require one. Scanlines won't work properly at 1080p, they are fine at 720p and lower.moonlightaffair wrote:I'm going to be connecting...

1) Which adapter can I use, the one with or without sync stripper? Can I use either?
2) Is there any reason to throw an SLG3000 into the mix or can the Mini give me scanlines?...I read it only likes them at 720p...
3) Will these settings work alright?
for 240p sources
IMAGE_MODE = PICTURE
AUTO_SCALER = GAME
SHARPNESS = 0 or 1 (0 recommended)
Set output resolution to 720p if you want to use scanlines or 1080p if your TV supports it and you DON'T want to use scanlines
Any suggestions for getting my Nintendo lookin' fresh?
Those settings should be fine, that's what I use. They're from the Wiki right?

I bought mine from Amazon Japan by way of Tenso. At the time it was cheaper than Solaris Japan. Better through Solaris Japan though because they offer a 6 month warranty.

Yeah I haven't had problems with mine but I've read that Solaris has good customer service, which is important for such an expensive gadget.

^ got mine from Yakumo as well, can't recommend him enough.
btw, has anyone built something better than the stock rgb adapter? not in terms of functionality (since all that is needed now are plain wire connections) but in terms of sturdiness... the stock's cable is too rigid , I feel like it stresses the port too much some times. Plus it looks crap with a scart cable connected.
I am thinking either making cables for all my consoles that connect to the framemeister directly or perhaps making another adapter if anyone has thought a better design...

I made this cable years ago for the same reason you said. It's not only thicker, better and more sturdy, but it's also hooked up to my Extron Matrix so it doesn't get moved around much, and therefore there should be little wear on the mini din socket on the XRGB. Since that picture I have covered the cable in black cable sleeve, which looks much better

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Anyone know how to enable scanlines for a 720p, 1080i, or 1080P input? I guess I'm one of the few people who uses the HDMI inputs.
I have my Wii U hooked up to HDMI Input 1 however whenever I set the systems resolution to either 720p, 1080i, or 1080p I can't figure out how to get scanlines to appear. Normally for current gen systems I would usually just hook them up straight to the TV but since I mostly play Virtual Console games I would like to add just a hint of scanlines. I've also tried both modes, HDMI Direct turned ON and OFF. When I set the systems resolution to 480p and then upscale that to 720p and enable scanlines with the Mini, the VC games look great however now the Wii and Wii U games look bad.
Does the Mini not support scanlines for High Def. Input? I would appreciate any advise.

Why would you want to use scanlines on high-def sources? You would just be removing half of the detail of the picture...

No, I'm talking about the colored overscan area in games like super Mario 3 and sonic on genesis. I was hoping the framemeister could eliminate thisKonsolkongen wrote:I actually meant to ask Galgomite, but I guess it goes for you as wellbluenote wrote: No, not that I know ofHowever I've never been bothered by the colored overscan areas on retro consoles and never by the flickering dots on the Mega Drive either.
EDIT: Are you talking about a white vertical line on the NES? That can be removed by adjusting the H-POS option to about 68-70.

Use the Framemeister's retro modes which adds an overlay in the overscan area. Not that great though.
Use the Framemeister's zooming options, you want to be on 1.10 of the FW to take full advantage.
Change your television's scaling mode if it has one. Not a 100% fix.
I myself am used to the overscan so I'm not bothered by it and so I just leave it on.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Exactly. Plus I believe the original Wii games could benefit from some minor scanlines as well seeing as how most of the games are 480i and look quite jaggy on a HDTV.Konsolkongen wrote:He says that he mostly plays VC games
Judging by the lack of response I assume it can't be done with the Mini?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
I thought I recall reading that scan lines could only be added when the mini was upscaling, like 240p to 720/1080p. If that's the case and the Wii U is already outputting in 1080p, then the Mini isn't able to scale it and thus won't be able to add scan lines.austin532 wrote:Exactly. Come to think of it, can the Mini even upscale something in the HDMI input, or is that pass-through only? If you can set the Wii U to a lower resolution like 720p, then try using component cables and set the Mini to output to 1080p so that it upscales. You might get scan lines then.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Scanlines work fine with inputs of 240p, 480i, and 480P but no luck with 720p, 1080i, or 1080ppyrotek85 wrote:I thought I recall reading that scan lines could only be added when the mini was upscaling, like 240p to 720/1080p. As of firmware 1.10 you can now allow direct pass-through for both HDMI inputs. I haven't tried using Component Cables and setting it to 720p but my guess is it still won't work seeing as how it doesn't work when set to 720p using HDMI.

Hey guys -- I'm trying to help my buddy out and set up his XRGB-Mini (And I have pretty much no experience with it). I've updated it to 1.10, and I can't seem to get scan lines enabled on the unit. I'm sending a HDMI signal from a computer running MAME to the XRGB-Mini, then to a HDTV. On the XRGB-Mini Framemeister i've enabled "V-Line" and nothing appears to change. None of the picture modes have scan lines when I try them all out. I'm sure I'm missing something. Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks dudes!

In which resolution is the PC outputing Mame? If is higher then 640x480 scanlines don't show

Thanks for the reply! That's gotta be the problem -- it must be outputting Mame at a high resolution. It's running Maximus Arcade as a front end...
Any suggestions on how I can check the output resolution in Mame?

If he's connecting a PC to a TV, why bother with the Mini in the first place? You can turn on scanlines directly in MAME.TastySoil wrote:Hey guys -- I'm trying to help my buddy out and set up his XRGB-Mini (And I have pretty much no experience with it). Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Hi everyone.
My first time writing here (but i've been a strong follower for many years now)
I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can help me with.
After 10 years playing on a CRT (namely a Bang & Olufsen MX7000), I've decided to try and plug some of my equipment to a Panasonic Plasma THP60 via XRGB mini.
It was a difficult decision to take because a) I hate LCD/LED/PLASMA screens for gaming and b) the mini is expansive...
Somehow, it seems to me that this piece of work is worth the try this time.
Before I place my order I want to be sure of 2 things:
- If I plug my Dreamcast's VGA box into a UMSA scart adapter (VGA to RGB), will it work ok with the mini? Or do I need to mod my VGA box?
- I have modded a Sega Multimega to accept 50/60hz, Jap, Eur and US cartridges and cd's, switchless (just need to press on the reset button)
How will the Mini react when I switch from a format to another? Do I have to reboot everytime, or does the mini understand the signals right away?
Thanks

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
- DC+Umsa works fine.
- On the Mini you have to manually switch between 50 and 60Hz output anyway. You don't have to reboot the Mini, but the resync will take some time.
PAL systems with a 60Hz mod don't run exactly at NTSC refresh rates. This might cause some problems, but I wouldn't jump to conclusions until you tried it.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Just another confirmation that this will work. I've tried a homemade VGA to SCART cable going from my Dreamcast VGA box to my Mini. The RGB input on the Mini accepts 31Khz so all good.arovane wrote: Before I place my order I want to be sure of 2 things:
