There is probably a bigger fan of this game out there, but 17-bit's new asteroids meets rogue like meets 80s Mecha cartoon shmup is at GDC and getting some good coverage:
you have one life
The game takes 45 minutes to an hour to complete
It's rogue like so each play through is unique
Different factions fight each other
Open world
Will update with gifs and more videos when I find them right now time for work.
No release date yet, but should be soon.

I was initially skeptical, but the game really does look fantastic. One of those games that just looks like it controls beautifully. Hopefully they make the most of their roguelike redesign and have a ton of different variables instead of a bland mess of a map.

Check out the interview for info on variables and difficulty and yeah I wasn't to thrilled at first (a do luftrausers still looks like more fun), but it's vita bound and looks awesome, the interview made it sound a lot better.
Aside from the fact that you're in a spaceship and can shoot lasers, it's not much of a shmup at all, even according to the developer (they described it offhand as a "physics-based simulation game"). It's important not to come into this expecting it to be a hardcore shmup when it's not.
