Weird doujin shmup from 2007 with Radiant Silvergun-like weapon system & player characters that have drastically different playstyles. Comes with an infamously large manual and sidebars with useless information.
Made by Ruminant's Whimper. Spiritual sequel to Radio Zonde.

Steam store page
official website
english translation patch by gensokyo.org team
english manual (webpage) by gensokyo.org team

main scoreboard with replays @ royalflare (missing some records though)

strategy thread (includes WR listing) & other links
previous hi score threads: RNGmaster, Macaw

didn't want to maintain this but the previous thread had been dead for years

Rules

submit scores in this format:
Code:
game mode - bootleg ghost
name - spirits - character - stage reached - way of life - (optional: link to replay/screenshot/video)

Score = Spirits. Speed Control and stage route aren't listed but mention them if you like. If someone wants to submit Token or Kill scores I'll add tables for them.

Steam version. Really sloppy run, died a lot which cost the 100k.

Here comes this idiot with his shit scores.

Full Sequence Order (Solid State):
SAS - 25,324 - Kagura[4] (Xanthez) - TLB? - Drastic - https://i.imgur.com/Z2nseUw.png

For some reason I can't just access Quadruple Ones with Xanthez. RIP me.
Maybe someday I'll try to get better score.

Edit:

The Great Majority (Solid State):
SAS - 10,273 - Kagura[4] (Xanthez) - Clear - Drastic - https://i.imgur.com/LSJz9Up.png

Might as well post this one too.

Nice scores! Apart from Kagura[1] (Moon Cradle) the Kagura are pretty incompatible with the scoring system for Full Sequence so I wouldn't worry about it. Moon Cradle is in the >100k club with the other characters while the other types are stuck in some <51k handicap.

Did someone say "shit scores"?

The Great Majority (Solidstate)
Cadrin - 9,313 - Minogame - Clear - Moderate - https://i.imgur.com/0xcajCg.jpg

I saw in some video on YouTube that in the third part of the stage, you can get an Erratic Infant (the shuttlecock-shaped enemy) stuck at the bottom at the screen, unable to leave, to prevent Orbital Squids from spawning, and focus on grinding Crystalline Leaves for score. I didn't do that here, though.

Finally managed to beat my old Full Sequence Order score from 2012 so I thought I'd post it here. By a good margin, too (over 5,000 spirit), though much of that was thanks to choosing Drastic instead of Prudently life cap. Also, while I'm at it, here are the rest of my scores. All of these were done on the Steam version.

Full Sequence Order - Solidstate
Shepardus - 26,391(7739) - Minogame - ALL TLB - Drastic - Screenshot/Replay
Route: 1B - 2B - 3L - 4 - 5 - 6 - Sh - 7 - 8

Short Mission - Solidstate
Shepardus - 16,058(0068) - Minogame - ALL TLB - Prudently - Screenshot
Route: 2L - 3L - 5 - Sh - 6 - 8

The Way of All Flesh - Solidstate

Momentary speed control for all.

Hellsinker went on sale recently, so I picked it back up again. Did a quick, sloppy run here just so I could clear the game, and to my surprise I netted 28.7k spirits! Just gotta clear the extra stages and I can go back to practicing Xanthez scoring.
On that topic though, I wouldn't knock Xanthez's scoring potential. In Segment Location, set to Unplugged/Alt/Drastic/Adept, I scored:
1,485 spirits, segment 1B
3,172 spirits, segment 3L
3,497 spirits, segment 5
It'll take a while before I can put together a good run for Xanthez, but it should break the 51k spirits ceiling you mentioned.

edit 5/21: Er, you placed my score in the "Solidstate" bracket when my post and the screenshot clearly show that the run was performed with Adept bootleg ghost.

Took a couple days off Xanthez practice to go back to Minogame. Been wanting to submit a proper score for 4 years, and now I got it.

Hmm, looks like Infernal Sabbath isn't too bad scoring wise...
Spoiler: show

If you ask me, the Kagura with lowest scoring is Ecliptic Chariot. Only thing going for that is the deployable chariot, which allows it to collect every crystal in the Shrine. Other than that, its spirit milking ability is the lowest among all 7 shot types, and it can't exactly make bank from needle grazes like Minogame does. I'll take a deeper look into it later, but that's my assessment for the time being.

update 6/19: Just achieved 4,006 spirits in 3L with Infernal Sabbath.

Went to go do some Great Majority runs, and it seems that I'm first place now!

The Great Majority (Adept)
saint_Mauve - 14,047 - Kagura[3] - Clear - Drastic - screenshot, video

update 6/20: Tried with Xanthez this time and got yet another fine score. Guess that means I have 1st and 3rd places in that scoring bracket. What's the rule for multiple entries under the same name in the same scoring bracket, anyway? 'Cause someday I'll be submitting high scores for different characters.

The Great Majority (Adept)
saint_Mauve - 11,468 - Kagura[4] - Clear - Drastic - screenshot

update 6/23: Was bored so I put together an FSO score table from whatever stuff I could find on Youtube.
Spoiler: show
Image

edit 6/20: Added video link, Xanthez score.
edit 6/21: Updated Kagura[3] score from 11,354 to 12,665.
edit 6/23: Added FSO score table.
edit 6/24: Updated Kagura[3] score from 12,665 to 14,047.

Great scores! ps. I've been maintaining a record / video table for all modes on the start of the strategy thread for a few years now

Huh, I didn't know about that. Well, even if I did, I wouldn't watch 'em without trying for a score myself. It's no good to simply ape whatever Japanese players are doing, y'know... Takes the fun out of it. The western Hellsinker community will always be in their shadow with such a mindset.

Anyway, just from a glance I can say that the Xanthez score there is rather unoptimized. 1.57k on Segment 1B when 2.1k is entirely possible, 35 extends when other WRs have 42, 12 deaths (3 in Shrine), Spirit Breakthrough on Segment 3L, a late Kill Breakthrough, etc.

edit: Don't have any new scores to add, other than me getting the PIONEER achievement and a scoring attempt with the Segment 8 Bosses, both with Kagura-3.
edit 2: Wanted to look into increasing video quality so I played around with some OBS settings and recorded the 'Segment 8 Bosses scoring attempt' replay. Good thing I did a live recording of that, since the replay desynced and caused me to die 3 times where I didn't. Must've been because I let myself be repeatedly clobbered by Garland's stage-wide walls.
edit 3: Seems like Youtube mangled it. Lots of artifacting around the score area. What I'd like to know is what kind of devilry twilightex uses to get such a clear recording, but it probably has something to do with the fact that he has 1440p and 4K options available; when I downgraded the video to 1080p60 the Spirit area started to artifact, though not as severely as my recordings. I suppose Youtube has some kind of bitrate cap for different quality settings?
edit 4 6/28: Upscaled my 2nd recording test to 1440p, and it seems I successfully tricked the YouTube compression system. The quality loss isn't as bad, and the Spirit readout is legible throughout Garland/LP771.

Got another score to turn in. IMO I did terribly, but oh well...

Full Sequence Order - Adept
saint_Mauve - 51,596 - Kagura[3] - ALL TLB - Drastic - screenshots 1 - 2 - 3

As you can see, I died 21 times, 19 if you don't count the Shrine.

Nice scores again. Yeah I guess with Kagura 3 reducing the deaths is main thing to optimize so can imagine how you feel.

Not sure what you mean here, people watch eachothers runs to figure out strategies if there's any portions of interest. Regions dont matter: any top player will watch your strategy etc. if there is a unique optimization. Acting like there is some kind of split western and japanese community sounds like a very outdated mindset to me, there has been no reason for these to be closed off for decades.

Yeah, if I optimized everything I could probably take Kagura[3] to about 80k spirits. A superplayer, though, who knows? They may know something I don't and/or take risks I'm not willing to. Perhaps they could take Kagura[3] to 90k? 100k? I mean, I play 1B for every run I do, when scoreplayers usually play 1L. I just like Quiet Minstrel better, and optimizing the road less taken is also pretty fun too.

Well, the reason I draw this contrast between the Japanese and non-Japanese playerbases is because the great majority (hehe) of high-scoring runs are from Japanese players. But what high-score players do we have here in the non-Japanese playerbase? Seems like it's just you and Niroe, which is pretty lackluster if you ask me. Niroe isn't even that active, so the only active scoreplayer here narrows down to just you. Most runs uploaded to Youtube from non-Japanese are survival runs, which aren't that interesting. Sure, there are some that stand out, like Flash Step's run or TripleMoon's commentated recording. Flash Step started off strong for the first 2 segments, but it fell apart on Segments 3, 4, and 7. Commentary, whether by annotation or voice chat like in IcarusFW's Hellsinker streams, also make a mediocre run interesting. But other than that, what else do we have? The scoreplayers here predominantly use Minogame (Niroe, Cadrin, Noah!), and you won't see a guy attempting to scoreplay with one of Kagura's 4 loadouts or Deadliar. Once more I reiterate—there isn't much of interest out here.

As for my "It's no good to simply ape whatever Japanese players are doing, y'know... Takes the fun out of it" bit? Just a matter of my own pride, I'd say. I find fun in discovery and experimentation, so I usually take a crack at scoring before I go off to watch someone's replay. If I watched the replay first, I'd feel like I was being spoonfed.

Man, oh man was this a clutch one.

The Great Majority (Adept)
saint_Mauve - 12,508 - Minogame - Clear - Drastic - video
I about sobbed after 2:46, because that was a pixel-perfect strike of luck that would have ended the run for me if I died there. Sobbed again when I beat your score by such a slim margin. I suppose grinding for a straight 4 hours paid off.
----- ----- -----
Got another one to add, since you haven't updated the scoreboard yet. Don't wanna spam this thread, so I might as well do some consolidating.

The Great Majority (Adept)
saint_Mauve - 12,090 - Kagura[2] - Clear - Drastic - video
----- ----- -----
If you don't mind, I suppose I'll dump my blind clears too.

The Great Majority (Adept)
saint_Mauve - 8,642 - Deadliar - Clear - Drastic - screenshot

The Great Majority (Adept)
saint_Mauve - 8,201 - Fossilmaiden - Clear - Drastic - screenshot
Took too long to finish off the Astral Man-of-War's main body, and missed out on at least 400 spirits as a result.
----- ----- -----
7/29: Still haven't updated this? Not to urge you or anything...
Short Mission (Adept)
saint_Mauve - 29,010 - Kagura[2] - ALL LB1 - Drastic - screenshot, video (commentated!)
Originally I started the run just to get Kaleidoscope's ending cutscene, but I decided to do some scoreplaying and this was the result. It gladdens me that I'm getting relatively good results from these long-form runs. Progress markers for my journey in mastering all 7 characters/shot types.
Oh yeah, and from these numbers I wager that an optimized Kagura[2] run can also break 51k in FSO by at least 10k.

edit 7/13: Added Ecliptic Chariot score, Deadliar/Fossilmaiden scores.
edit 7/29: Added Kagura[2] Short Mission run.
edit 7/31: Changed Kagura[2] video link to full version w/commentary.
