Attack of the... digitized photographs?

EDIT: I see the Stage 3 boss is from the NMK "make the bullets impossible to see" school.

Is there any reason why you stop things at the end of the first loop, trap? I'm just curious. I credit fed into the next loop during practice (because I didn't realize the game had ended!), and it's definitely a hell of a lot harder with all the suicide- and extra bullets. Is there some type of milking thing that goes on?

I'm wondering this too. The first loop doesn't seem to be very difficult and the scoring isn't all that involved, so I'm afraid the top rankings at the end of the week is simply going to be a list of people who put up with the annoyances of the game long enough to get a 1-ALL.

It's not just mere annoyances, it's also the rampant, wanton randomness. It's obviously better for score if you get a lot of surplus power-ups than a lot of unwarranted secondary weapons which won't do any good for you.

I wonder if any of the Nexzr staff worked on this game, a lot of the regular sprite work resembles that game. Then again, they also copied sections/enemies/set-pieces from games like Thunder Blaster and Raiden, so who knows.

Is that the primary source of scoring in this game? Surplus powerups?

Haven't had the time to play it yet, since the announcement came really late yesterday.

Mostly because I don't like playing a game for too long because I'm a spastic and hate loops that jack up the difficulty so much. Not a good reason.

I would be 100% not surprised if the PC Engine shooting game team from Kaneko did this, really, so it's certainly a possibility.

Most of the score seems to come from simply killing the enemies. Picking up surplus powerups is one of the few things you can do for score beyond that.

Seems like Jean is the most popular (the point-blanking is nothing to scoff at), but Hanse is also one of the better characters in my opinion. His bomb is certainly better than Jean's (Jean's has a large delay).

You know it!

What version of MAME is recommended nowadays?
Is shmupmame still prefered?

I noticed that you can bomb the very first enemy and it gives you about 10k.
There must be plenty of similar exploitable enemies if you have the bombs to spare.

Another player mentioned that on stage 5 (iirc) you can bomb the rockshower for a similar effect.

I think pretty much any version of MAME with autofire would work, somehow even stock MAME doesn't add any frames of input lag to this game.

You can also use a life as a bomb if you are already optimising on that level.
There doesn't seem to be any end of stage bonus for neither lives nor bombs.

Edit:
The video posted yesterday of the rock shower bomb spam.

Ok but who's the worst character?

It's tradition for me to play joke characters and do my best with them.

(note: I prioritize "harder/wonkier to use" over "outright weaker")
Play for fun and win when you can.

So is there no technical bonus for this week?

Screw me sideways with a rake I had no idea you could destroy the rock walls

And here I've been spending the day writing up a guide about how well-balanced the game is and all the intricate minor scoring opportunities there are :( At least now I know how the world record score was gotten and why Mifune was the one used for it. I'm... I'm just gonna wait until tomorrow to rewrite this and start literally burning down my own worldview.

How do you know Mifune was used? The world record is 1.4mill. I have some trouble to imagine how this was achieved, even with those rocks.

It's not too far off tho.

Tried the game with Jean, Hanse, and Steel.

Steel is so damn powerful, perfect for speedkill but tricky to master. I guess Hanse is the best of them all. One thing that's really annoying about this game is powerups floating all over the place, I sometimes accidentally got hit when I want pick them.

The rainbow paw is a 1UP.

The way it moves is definitely a bait/troll, though.

Regarding of the powerups, it also total random too which makes bombs are careful to use.
