Favorite TecnoSoft shmup songs

Post by Skyknight »

(Well, maybe you CAN include songs from non-shmups like the Herzog and Neorude series...)

The best of the best, will this be? The only contenders I can really think of to challenge TecnoSoft for best shmup music are Taito and Toaplan...

TF2:

--Exceed (st. 2-1)
--Illusion (st. 5-1 for X68000, st. 4-1 for Genesis)

--Big na Okata 3 (boss 3)

TF3/AC:

--Gargoyle (Hydra boss)
--Twin Vulcan (Gorgon boss)
--The Grubby Dark Blue (Siren)
--G Lobster (Hades boss)
--His Behavior Inspired Us with Distrust (st. 6)
--Hunger Made them Desperate (st. 7)

Elemental Master:

--Like the Wind (air realm)
--Until the End of the Earth (earth realm)
--Specter Living in the Water (water boss)
--Calling on the Dark Dragon King (boss 5)
--Fate (final battle, first phase)

TF4:

--The Sky Line (Air Raid, pt. 1)
--Simmer Down (Air Raid boss)
--Strike Out (Daser boss)
--Great Sea Power (st. 6)
--Sea of Flame (st. 7)
--Metal Squad (st. 8)
--The Danger Zone (st. 10)
--Warlike Requiem (final battle)

Hyper Duel:

--Hidden Moon (st. 3)
--I.W.A.O. (st. 3 boss)
--Cosmo Babylon (st. 4)
--Black Angel (st. 4 boss)
--Black Rain (st. 6)
--Nightmare (st. 6 boss)
--Bloody Government (st. 8)
--Hyper Duel (final battle)

Blast Wind:

--Blast Wind (st. 1)
--The Ritual (st. 3)
--Sodom (boss 3)
--Chaos Breaker (st. 4)
--Burning Heart (st. 5)
--Drad (boss 5)

TF5:

--Rising Blue Lightning (Human Road)
--Cyber Cave (st. 4)
--Guardian's Knight (boss 4)
--Steel of Destiny (st. 5)

You bastards. I can't believe no one likes Legendary Wings from TF 5 first level. Play Thunder force 3 Hydra after that and you'll see why I was almost crying when I first played TF5.

Honestly, anything from TFIII-TFV, Hyper Duel, and Blast Wind would make that list.

I do, and it almost made the list. I just like the straight up Back to the Fire version of the melody more than the cut in Legendary Wings.

My thoughts, exactly. All of my favorites OSTs are from Technosoft. That's why I wish they would come back and develope another shmup or sequel for us. Only then would my life be complete.

By the way. Does anyone know the name of the guy/gal who made all those fantastic Technosoft beats?

Someone need to tell one of the current shmup companies to hire him to make their next release BGM. I'm all for happy stuff, or techno stuff like in Espgaluda, but I miss blowing shit up with a really pumping soundtrack in the background like I do in Hyper Duel or Thunder Force IV.

And oh yeah, Hyper Duel Arranged owns all other Technosoft OSTs. Well... besides Broken Thunder at least. ^_-

Because it sounds like a weak imitation of the original? Oh!

It's a remix. Homage. A way of saying "Hey, we know you played 3, so here, a little trip down memory lane while you blast into the future courtesy of the 32-bit generation. Now the time for the SH2/R3000A on fire!"

Or maybe I'm just a dreamer.

Exactly, and not so good. When reaching for nostalgia goes too far? I honestly think it'd work better with an original song. The game over jingle was enough (in a good way).

Their whole catalog is great, even for games like Hyper Reverthion, but my favorite is Elemental Master. Just as a side note, Toshiharu Yamanishi is still releasing CDs in Japan on a NoBrandSounds label, and one of the CDs actually has tracks for ThunderForce IV that weren't used in the game.

I love ALL their stuff but my favorite has to be the Devil Crash/Dragon's Fury normal table music! It makes me want to keep my pinball around so I can hear the full theme- it's so damn good.
