Sol Divide artwork

Post by Damocles »

Yes, I'm one of the few people that have learned to enjoy, at least partially, Sol Divide. But that's besides the point.

Does anyone know where I might find any of the artwork, either the pieces used in the game, or concept pieces. It's one of the (few) things that attract me to the game.

Psikyo's Sol Divide arcade PCB is a stunner...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

I remember trying out the Psikyo produced arcade conversion kit of Sol Divide at a go-kart racing facility in Stockton, CA back in January of 2000. Awesome arcade shmup experience (unlike playing it on Mame32 though) that is not to be missed. How could one not like the cool digitized flame effects shown throughout this SD game spewed from the enemies? ^_~

The few times I've seen the Sol Divide PCB up for sale on eBay would fetch about $200-$250+ USD alone. And is it worth that much? (I don't think so.)

I did end up snagging a minty fresh brand new copy of SD for my modded PSX console in Akihabara to the tune of 3,980 yen during my two week excursion in Japan back in early Spring of 2000. The PSX iteration of Sol Divide has an extra semi-RPG mode that wasn't present in the original arcade PCB version. The badly-hacked USA PSX version of Sol Divide from XS Games left a sour taste in my mouth...the original Japanese PSX release of it is much better IMHO. ^_~

Sadly, Sol Divide did not get a sequel and remains as a solitary horizontal side scrolling shmup title with a unique visual presentation of it own. ^_~

Hey there,

I really liked the art from this game myself and it fits in the ETC section of my Peaceful Death site. You can find some good high-res stuff there at the following link:

If you have the Psikyo Art Book, you can find some more, I believe.

Hope this was somewhat useful to you!

Image
KATSUYA TERADA
he's know for doing the main designs for 'Blood - The Last Vampire" and "Rakugaki", and in teh Video game stuff, he's also responisble for artwork from Battle K-Road, Daraku Tenshi (both are also Psikyo game), Virtua Fighter Remix, and Busin Zero.

imo of the best illustrators from japan... and also a MAJOR influence for me in my drawings. :D
