I just got a gently used and in mint condition 15000 series Japanese PS2 console and was wondering what Japanese PS2 memory card file version do I need to watch foreign DVDs on Region 2 JPN PS2 console? -- I do have the DVD driver version 1.01 installed on the memory card itself if you're wondering.

I do recall that one needs an original PSX "digital" gamepad plugged into the PS2 console itself to be able to play those cool Region 1, 3, 4, 5, & 6 in addition to region 2 DVDs on the 10000 & 15000 series PS2 consoles.
Could it be the famous PS2 DVD driver files of version 1.00 that were installed to a PSP memory card that came with the original Japanese 10000 series PS2 console that allows one to watch those cool foreign DVDs on such a console (without the need for a Japanese "DVD Region X" boot disc to allow such a feat)?
This particular 15000 series JPN PS2 console has the old style PCMCIA slot connection for the "external" PS2 Broadband Adapter & 40 GB HDD accessories.
And how much do the "external versions" of JPN PS2 BBA + HDD go for new & used? Are they as good as the later revised versions of the internal PS2 BBA & HDD?
I do recall that it was SCEI that released a Japanese PS2 DVD driver update 2.00 that allowed one the opportunity to use the official PS2 DVD Remote Control & IR Reciever unit plugged into the Player 2 controller slot.
The USA version 2.10 driver upgrade added DVD remote control functionality when the official PS2 DVD Remote Controller was released in early September 2001 courtesy of SCEA themselves.
Of course, SCEI later added built-in DVD Remote IR port in lieu of the Firewire port (S-400 i-Link port) on later produced PS2 consoles. Sony deemed that the Firewire port was not necessary (even though some PS2 games did take advantage of multi-player games via Firewire Hub support for Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec and the PS2 Armored Core series). The Firewire port went the way of the obsolete PSX link-up cable setup where one has two PSXs + two copies of the same game that supports "link-up option" + the official PSX Link Up Interface cable.

SCEI would've been wise to have added a slim notebook HDD bay slot for it PStwo redesigned console...then one would have the best of both worlds of HDD + BBA functionality as well. ^_~
Thank you in advance for your helpful suggestions... ^_~
