What are you guys playing at the moment? (MAY '06)

Post by Danny »

What Shmups are you guys playing at the moment? Sorry I know a lot of you have this kind of info on your sigs and stuff but I felt compelled to ask.

Currently I am playing...

Castle Shikigami 2 - Awesome I just love this game. I love it's character and gameplay style, quite unlike any other shooter on the market at the moment.
Warning Forever - Just started a Hi-Score tabel for this game since the guy how created the last one has'nt posted back in a year (and has only made one post!). :( Saying that it did spur me on to play the game a lot more again and it reminded me of how good the game was.
Imperishable Night - Yeah I really do suck at this game but I do love it's unique character and gameplay style. Proberbly one of the best vertical shmups we will ever see on the PC market.
Gradius V - Started playing this with some friends after we went down the pub on Monday. Brillant fun with two people, it also reminded us all how easy most games are these days because Gradius V is 'hardcore' compaired to most games made these days.

OK thats me so what about you guys?

I just started on Mushihimesama Original mode. I'm trying to get a 1CC this week, just started on it 2 days ago (I'm up to the end of Stage 5 with 9.6 million points). The main reason I never played Original mode before (I bought the game on its release last July) was because I had to play in yoko mode, which was just impossible to properly play with all the fast bullets and such. I recently got a 20" flat-screen TV which I have permanently tated, and I can finally enjoy this game properly (it looks beautiful through the component inputs)! After original I'll attack Maniac again, and probably go back to Ibara, Batsugun, and/or Battle Garegga. :D

Alternating between Ibara (Arcade Mode) and DDP: DOJ.

Why oh why can't I clear DOJ... seems like half the forum already has, years ago :x

The only shooters I play at the moment are Imperishable Night and Gradius V. I waste most of my time on Mr. Driller G and DJMAX.

1) Under Defeat. I bought this somewhere around 2 months back I think, and have a grand total of 1 hour of play time racked up on it. With work being nuts and the birth of our second child, all shmupping got put on hold. Now that things have returned to a semi-sane state, it's time to give this game the attention it deserves.

2) Battle Bakraid and Battle Garegga. I hate Raizing/Eighting shmups, but I don't know why. I'm determined to give these two titles a fair go, and see if they grow on me over time.

It's fair to say that there have been plenty of games I've played in the past across all genres that I've been annoyed with at first, but given time they grow on me, and occasionally even become all time favourites. This is make it or break it time for Raizing and I, and our relationship. :)

well i 1cc'd the gba port of phalanx last night and i've been on that one for about 2 or 3 days. was pretty simple really but i like the way that there is one high score table but the potential to score int he higher difficulties is much greater meaning a clear on defaults scores nowhere near a half way point on hard. good game imo.

still playing gunbird pretty much every day and i don't really seem to be progressing too much at the moment. i am going to stick at it though as i want a few runs to the end of stage 6, where my previous limit was. i know i can 1cc it as i can one life the last stage with ease on a good day. stage 6 is just damn hard.

i'm playing gradius v intermitently but i really do find it impossibly hard and my progress is really slow. i'm currently getting destroyed by stage 3 spider boss over and over and over. i need to learn the safe spots to avoid that big ass lazer and get back for some hits and hopefully a quick kill.
Number of 1cc's : 5
Now playing: Gunbird

Yeah, that's a bitch of a boss. The only way to avoid that laser is by hiding behind the blocks at the bottom, it's no use getting closer to the spider. The real problem is the falling blocks anyway, the first two being the most dangerous, while the following others simply bounce on the middle one below and fall sideways.

It's :| and a tad

With myself

Seriously though, Galuda and Imperishable. Both are great games, but I'm more focused at getting my PS2 sorted out since it's making clicking sounds.

A little present for you, an old videoclip I recorded back in the days of the Euro competition.

Player: Icarus // Type 1, Stage 3 Boss in 2 Minutes (DIVX - 15MB)

You can cut another 20secs off the boss by tightly clustering your Options on top of the boss' weakpoint at close range, and yet another 40secs by switching to Spread Bomb instead of Missile. This clip however gives the safest, fastest route past the attacks.

I'm bouncing back and forth between Gradius V & a couple other games (Super Nova, TFIII, Gekioh/Shienryu). My goal this year is to 1CC Gradius V, though I'm nowhere near meeting that goal! What I should do is go back & 1CC the 16-bit shmups I'm close to 1CC (Blazing Lazers, Darius Twin) instead so I can at least say I accomplished something shmuppy this year, then go back to Gradius V & just play until I don't suck anymore.

I'm playing mainly Trizeal, Ibara, and Mushihime (original & maniac).

Also since I just got Radirgy I'll be trying that out for a while.

Trying to 1CC Espgaluda, but I keep getting distracted by trying to improve my scoring methods.
Good luck or cry.

Been playing a lot of Dangun Feveron lately. I'm trying to 1-life it. I've been able to get to the end of lv4 in one life, but the boss always gets me. :?

I'm using Ship-B, max speed, and I usually pick the Roll special and use it like a charge shot. Some have mentioned that the Bomb special is the best for scoring, but I just dunno... they seem awfully slow, to me. I'm not really trying to go for score anyway, just the 1LC.

Ibara and mushi maniac mode.

A 1cc in either is not looking like happening anytime soon.

Playing a bunch of Guwange lately...I could see myself 1cc'ing it someday (itd be my first) Love the music, art style and game play. Freezing bullets using the spirit and watching them become coins after the enemy dies = fun stuff.

Just got Galuda2 and have been playing a little bit with it, but I'm hoping an experienced player will be at the socal hookup that can show me how to play it properly :)
