Turning your TV on its side... risky?

I just got Ibara for PS2, and the screen is way too small when it's played in the default view. I can't play at all.

If I turn my TV over and then put it in the arcade view, then it's perfect! But I think I heard someone say that doing this would possibly screw up my TV.

So can I turn my TV on its side? What if I just turn it on its side for 30 minutes at a time? :\ Any tips???
