hi dbv,

You're in man. :D We'd love to have ya.
As far as food contributions go just bring enough to cover for yourself in case we send out for food and ya want some.. Modesto...holy cow...that sounds like a 5 hours, 31 minutes drive  Total Est. Distance: 354.89 miles (mapquest)

If you are seriously planning on attending, we'll work on setting up some accomodations for ya, so you can sleep the night before you drive back home. Wouldnt want your eyeballs to fall out after 10 hours of gaming on the long drive home. Hopefully some other NoCal shmuppers wouldnt mind carpooling down with ya to share the drive :)

For those attendees wishing to help out with drinks and snacks, I'll be accepting $5 donations to my paypal account at: fatherpain@hotmail.com

I figure that might be easier if I have all drinks and snacks ready ahead of time rather than potlucking. I'll have everything ready before hand. You'd still need to have some cash in pocket for any foodruns we decide to do (i.e. popeyes) but their are plenty of places nearby.

If ya donate, please include your neo-geo.com or www.shmups.com screen name so I can properly thank ya.

Thanks,
Droid

Yo Droid. You want me to swing on by a little early and help setup a little bit like last time? I'm also thinking of bringing a couple shooters to the mix (gigawing, dragon blaze, maybe more). I can also bring my 4-slot again if you like, and my mvs cart box.

If we get any more long distance travellers to the party, I'm always willing to offer my couch for a night or two.

also will games be on freeplay or?

heh, we live in a 2BR apt. If I had all those dedicated cabs, I'd truly be a bigtymer...I'll have 4 cabs that we will be switching games in and out of. Some set for horis (old school/shmups and neo) and some set for vert shmups + oldschool.
also will games be on freeplay or?
Freeplay or coindoor open so you can credit feed.

so i'm still confused sort of...
with the number of cabs there are, how will a line work? once someone loses all their lives, or beats the game, or ? or requests to play certain games?

never been to one of these so just wondering about that stuff haha

I don't know if Droid will do this, but for my shmupmeets I set all the games to "no continue". This gives everyone a chance to play, rather than one lame person hogging the machine for a half hour continuing to the end (nobody likes to watch that crap).

Sounds like you guys will have a great time. Wish I could have been able to go.

that sounds cool, definitely

so what do you do for requests on games? like since there are so many games but so few cabs, who decides what games are on for what period of time? just general party vote or owner?

Dave that is a good idea...I have ketsui set like that and I can't get past stage 2...it pisses me off, I'm such a crappy shmupper

So far everyone has been pretty good about sharing the machines and taking turns. Most of the time people defer to others, especially when a cave game is in the cab. I think cave has the best intimidation factor. No one wants to suck in front of an audience it seems heh. Man I wish ya could join us. Either you'll have to come down and hang with us or I'll have to trek up there with BIG or Ramus and join you guys up there.

Just a few friendly reminders for old and new guests:

1. We ask that ya remove your shoes upon entering our house. So please wear clean socks Saturday. Bring an extra pair or 2 if ya need to.

2. Our apartment will be packed so please plan your hygiene accordingly. We have yet to experience this problem, but extreme funk will not be tolerated.

3. Respect peoples stuff. Everyone has been great in this regard each and every hookup that I've hosted. However, someone crinkled my Samurai 5 Special homecart insert last time around and I didnt find out about it until a couple weeks ago when I went to sell it. I ended up discounting the selling price an extra $40 PCBs will be handled by the host (myself) or a designated assistant.

4. Parking isnt too bad, but if you can find a carpool buddy from the attendees list, all the better. Some members reside on other forums, so if you wish to contact them about ridesharing, shoot me a pm and I'll forward it to them.

5. Please refrain from bringing extra guests as space will be at a premium and I don't wish to have to setup entertainment for non gamers. Just makes things harder for me.

That's about it. Can't wait for Saturday. Looking forward to seeing you guys again and meeting the new faces. I'm predicting it will be an epic event!

so what do you do for requests on games?
I fulfill them when I have time. Of course requesting games to be changed every 10 minutes or so will be frowned upon. People that create problems or an unreasonable amount of extra work for the host usually are not invited back for future socal hookups.
like since there are so many games but so few cabs, who decides what games are on for what period of time? just general party vote or owner?
I leave the games up to the people. We usually find a happy consensus then go from there. Occasionally I exercise executive host privilege and pop in a game I'd like to play...As for the time, I go for whatever is popular and getting playtime. If I put in a game and no one plays, it gets swapped out pronto.
with the number of cabs there are, how will a line work? once someone loses all their lives, or beats the game, or ? or requests to play certain games?
Depends on the game. For fighting games its loser goes out. I expect a small line to play on the Egret2 which will be dedicated to neo fighters. We will have 2 cabs dedicated to vertical games, mostly shmups. There may be a small line for those games. But usually there is a crowd watching whoever is playing. The impress will be set horizontal for shmup/metal slug/platformer/puzzle action. In addition to the cabs, we have 2 TV's that will be hooked up. Do the math and that becomes a maximum of 12 people that can be playing at any one time....We'll have enough to keep everyone busy and happy. Besides the gaming, most of the fun is hanging and talking with other attendees.

I believe I sent out my address to all attendees....for some reason if I missed ya hit me up with a pm and I'll take prompt corrective action.

i have no problem with screwing up w/an audience XD

the rest of it sounds good, except this one kinda worries me;

wouldn't this mean something like, if you put in dodonpachi dai ou jou, or something of similar difficulty, and say only two or three people (estimate) at the meetup like playing it, but the rest don't due to difficulty, would this mean the game would get swapped out ASAP?

As long as people are playing it will stay in the cab for a reasonable amount of time...If someone requests a game change, it will be swapped out at a reasonable interval. If a game is sitting there not being played, I'll swap it out for another game. If 3 people are playing it, I'm not going to arbitrarily change games on them. To be honest, at all the hookups I've thrown, half the people play and the other half mingle and hangout.

A couple more things:

Tomorrow will be jam packed. I expect around 20-26 people...Due that mass of humanity + cabs and TV's giving off heat, it may get a little stuffy. Its supposed to be a cool day and we'll have plenty of fans running, but I still advise people to dress light. Keep a sweatshirt or jacket in the car just in case though...Hopefully the floor won't collapse under our combined weight

People exhibiting signs of illness will be asked to leave. Allergies are one thing, but If you're sick with something contagious please spare the rest of us from catching it. Come to the next hookup when your better.

In the event nature calls and you need to take a KKPD aka King kong Power Dump in the bathroom, please remember to shut the door for containment purposes.

Remember this event is for fun. We've got a very diverse group of people coming down to hang out and I don't expect everyone to get along with every single person that is going to be present. However, lets put aside any differences for a day and have a great time. It takes alot of work to host these events and I want everyone to feel welcome in my house. I have a gut feeling this Hookup will be our best yet..They keep getting better everytime and its a credit to all the great attendees that makes it worthwhile for me to serve as your gracious host.

Can't wait til ya guys start rolling in tomorrow
