Hopefully this is the right forum for this question, if not feel free to move it.
Anyways, earlier today I got a copy of Puyo Puyo 4 for the DC which I ordered in the mail. The game is Japanese, and my DC is US, so I use the Utopia boot disc (v 1.3) to play imports on it. In any event, I used the boot disc on the DC as usual, and afterward put in the game disc, and the opening screens ("Sega Presents" and "in association with Compile," something like that) pop up, and then...
...nothing. After those intro screens come up, the screen goes black and will not progress any further. I tried it several times and the same thing happened; I also unhooked my usual RGB cable and tried the "regular" a/v cables instead (since Giga Wing once gave me trouble because of that) and this didn't help either.
The disc is scratchless, so I'm sure that it isn't the cause; in fact, the game successfully auto-saved a data slot onto my memory card the first time I tried to start it up, so I'm pretty much certain that the game itself isn't the problem. Also, just to be sure, I tried using the boot disc with my copy of Ikaruga afterwards, and it plays fine just as it always had.
I'm not sure what the problem here might be...anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

The main thing I need to find is a disc-burning program that will let me burn something at the slow speeds you recommended to me earlier (2 to 4X)...apparently I got the image onto the disc correctly with Nero, but the slowest speed it gave me (8X) was too fast for the DC to read it. Maybe my CD burner just doesn't go that slow...?
That's weird... I'd swear my Puyo IV works fine with Utopia...
EDIT: Apparently not. I use Utopia V.1.1 and it's worked fine with EVERY import I've put in it...until tonight. I get a "produced by Compile" screen and then nothing at all. Blank. Very odd. Hell, even Under Defeat works fine with my Utopia 1.1, so now I'm just confused. All other PAL and Jp games I've used it with all boot perfectly.

My first trouble with Utopia came from BLACK/MATRIX Advanced... in fact, it was my very first import too.
I use GameShark now and I haven't had a problem with any other of my games.
BM see about getting a friend to burn for you. Check the label on your CD-Rs too, they might be only certified to burn at a minimum of 8x.

Was the same with me...every other JP game I have for the DC works fine with my Utopia disc, Puyo 4 is the first I've bought which doesn't seem to.maxlords wrote:Apparently not. Hmm...so the CDs themselves might be the problem, and not the burner or the software? I remember seeing that the CDs are labeled to burn "up to" a certain rate, but didn't see a minimum speed listed...maybe I need to look again. Sorry I'm so illiterate when it comes to burning stuff...iatneH wrote:Check the label on your CD-Rs too, they might be only certified to burn at a minimum of 8x.
