Thanks Ben! :D

How close are the MegaDrive versions of Rainbow Islands and The New Zealand Story to the arcade versions?

So how similar are the Megadrive versions to the arcade originals?

Well, I don't know because I don't have Genesis versions of Rainbow Island and New zealand Story.

I think Genesis R.I. is the extra version, but I'm not sure.

Download emulator with roms and you'll see differences between versions.

You've got a cool site there. I'm going to check out your R-Type Delta 1LC now, and probably some of the others later :)

I tried the Megadrive/Genesis versions of New Zealand Story and Rainbow Islands. Keep in mind these are initial impressions. I was not impressed with New Zealand Story, from what I played. It's not like how I remember it in arcades. The level design has changed and not for the better. It's not bad, but I found it to be less fun than the original. The levels seem to be designed to be a bit more frustrating.

Rainbow Islands plays very similar to the arcade version and has the option to play in original or extra modes. It seems to be an excellent port of the original.

Now that Sega's put out the Sonic Mega Collection, I think it'd be fantastic if they put out a Shinobi Mega Collection! Probably not going to happen, though. :(

Sorry to bump this up so much, but I have some questions. That Shinobi replay was awesome -- it was my favorite arcade game as a kid and is still my number 2 (right behind Metal Slug). I could never get that good at it, though... I can no-shuriken the first stage, but that's about it. ;)

Anyway, are these plays done straight up, or are they tool-assisted? I noticed you sometimes appeared to bump into enemies and kill them at the same time -- how is that done? Also, you used the 'no fire' trick on some stages -- have you attempted a no-shuriken clear on those stages without using the cheat?

edit -- one more question. You often jump over the hostages and then go back and recollect them. Does that result in more points?

To get 1000 pts for one hostage, your score must finish with 000, 100 or 200. if you score finish with 300, 400, 500, you get 500 pts and if it finish with 600, 700, 800 or 900, you get only 200 pts.
That's why sometime, I jump over hostage to get some points.
